There Are Many

Virtuous And Capable Women In The World,

But You Surpass Them All!

Scripture

Proverbs 31

10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.

11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.

12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

13 She finds wool and flax
    and busily spins it.

14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
    bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.

16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She is energetic and strong,
    a hard worker.

18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.

19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
    her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.

21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
    for everyone has warm clothes.

22 She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.

23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.

24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.

26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.

27 She carefully watches everything in her household
    and suffers nothing from laziness.

28 Her children stand and bless her.
    Her husband praises her:

29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
    but you surpass them all!”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.

31 Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Observation

Who would have ever dreamed that as a 17 year old that God would bring into my life the best woman in the world! That's right I've got the best!

God brought Kathy into my life when we were both 17 years old and when we were in our senior year at Hillsborough High School. We got engaged on graduation day and we were married a few months later on November 1st.

Tomorrow we celebrate our 51st anniversary!

I agree with Solomon when he said, “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you (Kathy) surpass them all!”

Application

Kathy is a virtuous and capable wife! She is more precious than rubies. I can trust her, and she has greatly enriched my life. She has brought me good, not harm, all the days of her life. (Proverbs 31:10-12 Personalized)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You, thank You, thank You, for bringing Kathy into my life. She is the very best gift that You could have ever given me. You are so good! I pray for Kathy today. May Your face shine brightly on her. Give her strength. Continue to give her good health. Continue to use her in the lives of so many other women in our church and community.

I pray for the husbands and wives that might happen to read this blog today. Bless them, Lord. Help them to work hard at having the very best relationship and the very best marriage. Smile on them, Lord, the same way that You have smiled on us!

Daughter, Your Faith Has Made You Well.

Go In Peace.

Your Suffering Is Over.

Scripture

Mark 5

24 Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him.

25 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding.

26 She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse.

27 She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe.

28 For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”

29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.

30 Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?”

31 His disciples said to him, “Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’”

32 But he kept on looking around to see who had done it.

33 Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done.

34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”

Observation

When she heard about Jesus” … she went to Him, touched Him, and she was healed!

Have you heard about Jesus?

As I read the Scriptures it is interesting to see what people do after they hear about Jesus. Some hear about Jesus and walk away in disbelief. Others hear about Jesus, place their faith and trust in Him and He radically changes their life or the life of one of their loved ones.

I am sure that you have heard of Jesus. What has been your response? Have you become a devoted follower of Jesus or have you heard about Jesus and have up until now have just decided to ignore His call on your life?

Read Mark 5 and just see how Jesus changed the lives of those who placed their faith and trust in Him. He will do the same thing in our lives if we will just 'believe'!

Application

I will never grow tired of hearing how Jesus changes lives!

If Jesus has changed your life then people need to hear your story!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to place my faith and trust in Jesus Christ. He changed my life! I am so glad that Kathy and I both have a relationship with You. Thank You for giving us so many wonderful friends who also have placed their faith and trust in Jesus. We are blessed.

I pray for any person who may be reading this blog today that has not said 'yes' to Jesus. Help them to believe!

Do Not Be Overawed

When Others Grow Rich,

When The Splendor Of Their Houses Increases;

Scripture

Psalm 49

16 Do not be overawed when others grow rich,
    when the splendor of their houses increases;

17 for they will take nothing with them when they die,
their splendor will not descend with them.

18 Though while they live they count themselves blessed—
and people praise you when you prosper—

19 they will join those who have gone before them,
who will never again see the light of life.

20 People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.

Observation

This past Tuesday, Kathy and I walked through a cemetery in the small mountain town of Ellijay, Georgia. She had heard from a cousin of her's that some of her distant relatives were buried in a cemetery in that town.

As we wandered through the old cemetery reading all of the tombstones we came across markers of folks who obviously didn't have much money when they were alive and we also came across people who must have been very well off during their lifetime.

I realize that my legacy will not be measured by how many toys (houses, trucks, cars, boats, businesses etc.) I have accumulated during my life-time. Nobody is going to be overawed by my stuff.

Application

Hopefully what I leave behind will be people … people whose lives that have been forever changed because of their relationship with Christ.

How about you? What is the priority of your life?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, don't let me be overawed by the stuff that other people have. Help me to be content with a simple life. We are blessed. You have been so very very good to us. Don't let me miss an opportunity to touch someone's life today and encourage them to move closer to You. Nothing is more important than the people that You bring into my life.

My Breath Is Offensive To My Wife; I Am Loathsome To My Own Family.

Click Here for Daily Bible Reading!

My Breath Is Offensive

To My Wife;

I Am Loathsome To My Own Family.

Scripture

Job 19

17 My breath is offensive to my wife;
I am loathsome to my own family.

18 Even the little boys scorn me;
when I appear, they ridicule me.

19 All my intimate friends detest me;
those I love have turned against me.

20 I am nothing but skin and bones;
I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.

...

25 I know that my redeemer lives,
and that in the end he will stand on the earth.

26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;

27 I myself will see him
with my own eyes—I, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!

Observation

Job has lost everything! His children have all been killed. He has lost all of his worldly possessions. He is sitting in ashes, covered in boils that are infected with maggots, surrounded by so called friends who are trying to convince him that everything that has happened to him was his fault. His wife and his extended family and closest friends can't stand to be around him, and kids are making fun of him.

In spite of all of this Job makes this declaration of his faith,

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!”

Application

God will take care of me. No matter what I face, no matter how bad things ever get, I know that God will be right there with me to get me through it.

How about you? Are you trusting God with everything that is going on in your life?

Isaiah 43:2-3a

2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.

3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Habakkuk 3:17-18

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
    and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
    and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me the faith of Job. Help me to be able to face things like he did. I am encouraged when I read about Job and other Bible characters because I know that the way You took care of them is also the way that You will take care of me.

I pray for any person who is reading this blog today. If they are discouraged I pray that You will encourage them. If they are sick I pray that You will heal them. Bring people into their life today to lift them up. Smile on them today!

As Iron

Sharpens Iron,

So A Friend Sharpens A Friend.

Scripture

Proverbs 27

17 As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.

Observation

Kathy and I are on our way to see some of our very best friends. These are friends whom we have known for almost 50 years … So many good memories of so many things that we have experienced and shared together. And we have walked through many difficult times together!

And I know that when the next crisis comes they will be there to pray for us and cry with us. These are the very best friends that only God can bring into your life.

We are looking forward to laughing and hearing about their kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and at our age I am sure there will be some talk about all of our newest aches and pains.

I hope you have made these kinds of friends too! If you haven't then I hope you start working on that today!

God is so good!

Application

I will really enjoy these days with our friends.

How about you? Do you have some best friends?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving Kathy and I so many wonderful friends. Help us to be the kind of friends that they can count on. Help me to remember to pray for them.

I pray for some of our friends who are going through difficult times right now. Help them with their relationships. Help other friends with their health. Help others stay away from addictions and give them strength to walk in sobriety and victory.

Do You Think You Can Persuade Me To Become A Christian So Quickly?

Click Here for Daily Bible Reading!

Do You Think

You Can Persuade Me

To Become A Christian So Quickly?

Scripture

Acts 26

28 Agrippa interrupted him. “Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?”

29 Paul replied, “Whether quickly or not, I pray to God that both you and everyone here in this audience might become the same as I am, except for these chains.”

Observation

The Apostle Paul was having the opportunity to witness to King Agrippa and to everyone else that was listening. The Gospel Message is for everybody, rich/poor, black/white, it doesn't matter. Jesus Christ died for all of us.

What you and I must do ... is believe!

King Agrippa was confronted with the Good News about Jesus. What he did with that Good News we don't know. But we know that he is without excuse. One day he will face his Maker and God will ask him what he did about Jesus!

Is Jesus Christ Lord and Savior of your life?

Application

I will look for opportunities to tell people about Jesus!

How about you!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to share my faith. Give me the boldness, the love, and the wisdom to communicate the Good News about Jesus in a clear way. Don't let me miss an opportunity.

I pray the same for any person reading this blog. If they are not sure about their salvation help them to nail down their decision by talking to You. And give them boldness to share their faith!

God Understands All Hearts, And He Sees You. He Who Guards Your Soul Knows You knew.

Click Here for Daily Bible Reading!

God Understands All Hearts,

And He Sees You.

He Who Guards Your Soul Knows You knew.

Scripture

Proverbs 24

12 Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.”
For God understands all hearts, and he sees you.
He who guards your soul knows you knew.
He will repay all people as their actions deserve.

Observation

Excuses! Excuses! Excuses! Let's not make excuses. When we mess up let's just admit it. Let's quickly ask for forgiveness and let's man up to what we have done wrong instead of trying to make excuses.

Marriage partners listen up … don't blame your partner for your bad behavior. I see couples play the blame game all the time.

Adam and Eve started the blame game way back in the Garden of Eden but you and I don't have to keep repeating what they did.

God knows our hearts. We may think that we are fooling some people, but God knows when we are making excuses and He knows when we are blaming others for our own bad behavior.

Application

Because I know that God understands my heart and He sees me I will do my best to accept the blame when I mess up and do something wrong.

How about you? Are you trying to blame someone else for something right now? Man up!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are all knowing. There is no way to hide anything from You. Help me not to try to put the blame on someone else for something that I have done wrong or for something that I have done poorly. Help me to always confess my sins to You and help me get things right with the people close to me as quickly as I possibly can. Help me to be totally transparent with You and transparent and honest with those around me. Help me to be a man of integrity that people can count on.

But My Life Is Worth Nothing To Me

Unless I Use It For Finishing

The Work Assigned Me By The Lord Jesus -

Scripture

Acts 20

24 But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

Observation

What is your life worth? What is my life worth? Let's not look at our bank accounts or our investments or our business (if we happen to be in business for our self), or our position in a company, to measure our worth.

No, my life and your life are worth nothing unless we finish the work assigned to us by the Lord Jesus?

Here are two quotes from R.G. LeTourneau, a very successful business man who gave 90% of what he made back to the Lord and lived on 10%. He understood and lived out Acts 20:24.

I believe faith in the old fashioned gospel of Christ makes better mechanics, better accountants, better salesmen, and better executives.”

When you go into partnership with God, you’ve got a Partner closer and more active than any human partner you can ever get. He participates fully in everything you let Him do, and when you start putting on airs, and thinking you’re doing it with your own head of steam, He can set you down quicker and harder than a thunderbolt. There’s nothing dull about being in partnership with God.”

Application

My life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus.

How about you? What is your life worth?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am challenged as I read about the life of the Apostle Paul. Help me to keep my focus on what You have called me to do. Don't let me miss a chance to tell someone about Jesus. Don't let me think for a minute that anything is more important than that. I am also challenged when I read or hear about other godly men who are totally committed to serving You. Thank You for bringing godly men and women into my life to keep me on track.

My Health May Fail,

And My Spirit May Grow Weak,

But God Remains The Strength Of My Heart;

Scripture

Psalm 73

26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
    but God remains the strength of my heart;
    he is mine forever.

Observation

Old age is not for wimps!

I am sure glad that God is walking with me through this stage of my life. I can't imagine how terrible it must be for those who do not have God in their life to give them strength.

Isaiah 46:4

I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

Psalm 71:5-9

5 O Lord, you alone are my hope.

I’ve trusted you, O Lord, from childhood.

6 Yes, you have been with me from birth;
from my mother’s womb you have cared for me.
No wonder I am always praising you!

7 My life is an example to many,
because you have been my strength and protection.

8 That is why I can never stop praising you;
I declare your glory all day long.

9 And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside.
Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing.

Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.

Application

I am thankful today that I have breath and I am able to wake up and read God's Word and pray!

How about you? Are you thankful? … How did you start your day?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me another day. Each day is a gift from You. I realize with every new ache and pain that this body of mine is wearing out. I am so glad that You are my strength. My life is in the Palm of Your hand. Nothing touches my life without Your permission. Help me to stay focused on what is most important each and every day. Help me to live each and every day in a way that brings You glory and honor.

I pray that same thing for any person who might take a minute to read this blog. Help them to make You smile today by the way they live his or her life.

Sirs, What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Click Here for Daily Bible Reading!

Sirs,

What Must I Do

To Be Saved?”

Scripture

Acts 16

22 A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods.

23 They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape.

24 So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks.

25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening.

26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off!

27 The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself.

28 But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”

29 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

30 Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

32 And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.

33 Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized.

34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.

Observation

They were severely beaten, then they were thrown into the deepest darkest place in the jail and their feet were clamped in stocks and to the amazement of all of the other prisoners Paul and Silas were singing and praising God and all of the other prisoners were listening!

Then there was a great earthquake and all the prison doors flew open and the chains on all of the prisoners fell off, but nobody tried to escape. In comes the jailer and was about to kill himself with his sword thinking that all of the prisoners had escaped, but the Apostle Paul tells him that they are all still there.

Then the jailer comes and falls down trembling before Paul and Silas and says, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”Paul's answer to the jailer in the middle of all of that chaos is still the answer that you and I desperately need to hear and heed today - “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”

Paul and Silas with their praying, singing and praising God at midnight brought down the jail, but the earthquake was never intended to set them free. It happened to get the jailer's attention and set the jailer and his family free from sin and eternal damnation.

I do also think that the other inmates realized that the earthquake was something that God did because none of them tried to escape.

Application

God wants everyone to be saved. He will go to extreme measures to see that the lost have the opportunity to hear about Jesus and be saved. Yes, even if it means that His children suffer, like Paul and Silas did, so that others have the opportunity to be saved.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me Your heart for those who do not yet know You. Paul and Silas knew just what the jailer and his family needed. Help me to be sensitive to the needs of others like they were.

I pray for any person reading this blog today. Open his or her eyes, Lord, so they can see spiritually. Guide them. Direct them. Help them with every detail of their life. Show them just how powerful You are. Show them that they can trust You just like the jailer did!

We Are Here

To Proclaim That Through This Man Jesus

There Is Forgiveness For Your Sins.

Scripture

Acts 13

38 “Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.

39 Everyone who believes in him is made right in God’s sight—something the law of Moses could never do.

40 Be careful! Don’t let the prophets’ words apply to you. For they said,

41 ‘Look, you mockers,
    be amazed and die!
For I am doing something in your own day,
    something you wouldn’t believe
even if someone told you about it.’

Observation

What was true then is still true today – when people hear the Good News that through Jesus there is forgiveness of sins there are some who believe and some who will not! As you read this let me ask you ... which is true for you?

Don't continue to go down the road of unbelief … make the decision to believe today!

It is not good people that go to Heaven and bad people that go to Hell it is only those who have found forgiveness of their sins by trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior who have eternal life!

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Application

I will continue to pray for the salvation of people I know who are living life like God doesn't exist.

How about you? Do you believe?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for any person who may read this blog today. Help them to believe! Reveal to them that Jesus Christ is the only way to have a relationship with You. Put a desire in his or her heart to turn and to place their trust totally in Jesus for their salvation. Help them to openly declare that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of their life. Give them boldness.

Romans 10:9-10,13

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

My Body Is Covered With Maggots And Scabs. My Skin Breaks Open, Oozing With Pus.

Click Here for Daily Bible Reading!

My Body Is Covered

With Maggots And Scabs.

My Skin Breaks Open, Oozing With Pus.

Scripture

Job 6

2 “If my misery could be weighed
and my troubles be put on the scales,

3 they would outweigh all the sands of the sea.

Job 7

5 My body is covered with maggots and scabs.
My skin breaks open, oozing with pus.

Observation

In Job 2 we find that Satan had struck Job with boils, “So Satan left the Lord’s presence, and he struck Job with terrible boils from head to foot. Job scraped his skin with a piece of broken pottery as he sat among the ashes.”

So now in chapter 7 we find Job sitting with his so called friends and his boils have now become infected and his body is covered with maggots and scabs.

It was bad enough for Job to be covered with maggots and scabs with pus oozing out. But then to have to listen to 3 guys tell him over and over again that it must have been his fault that all of this has happened ... all of this while still grieving the loss of his children and everything that he had owned. It is hard to imagine a worst scenario!

I have to be honest and tell you that Job is one of the hardest books in the Bible for me to read, but I read it every year as I read through the Bible.

Job's faith is amazing. In spite of all the bad things that happened to Job he stayed faithful to his God.

Job 13:15

Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him …

.....

Oh, and don't “Google” maggots and read about them unless you really want to get grossed out!

Application

I want Job's faith … but without all of Job's problems.

How about you?

Habakkuk 3:17-18

17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, even though I admit that it is not easy to read the book of Job, I know You have placed His story in the Bible to help me as I go through life. Thank You for Your Word. Help me to never grow tired of reading it. Continue to use it in my life to guide me.
