Anyone Who Believes In Me Will Live,

Even After Dying.

Scripture

John 11

25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.

26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

39 “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.

But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

40 Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” 

41 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 

42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 

43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!” 

44 And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

Observation

I love this story. Read John 11 and then close your eyes and imagine that you are there at the tomb of Lazarus when Jesus shouts, “Lazarus, come out!”

Lazarus wrapped up like a mummy comes out of that tomb hopping and bouncing, his hands and his feet were wrapped in graveclothes and his face and head were all wrapped up! And Jesus said to the crowd, “Unwrap him and let him go!”

You need to understand that this miracle was done not for Jesus' friend Lazarus' benefit. No, Lazarus would have already been enjoying eternal life, plus he had to go through the death process twice ... now that's a terrible thought.

So why did Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead?

Jesus did it, I think, to show us that He has power over death. To show us that when we die that He has power over death and that we will live even after we die if we believe in Jesus. “... “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.” John 11:25

Application

This old body is wearing out, but Eddy is going to live forever!

11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

2 Corinthians 5:1-5

1 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 

2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 

3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies.

4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 

5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, every day when I wake up (and I am grateful for the opportunity to wake up) I have a new ache and pain. It seems like the older I get the more aches and pains I have. It is a not so gentle reminder that this “tent” that I am living in is quickly wearing out. This body of mine was not meant to last forever, but I know that one day I will get a brand new one and it will be perfect and it will last forever!

I pray for any person reading this blog. Help them to realize how short life on this earth is. Don't let them get messed up focusing on wealth and material things when real life is all about relationships. Help them to understand and help them to put into practice true forgiveness, grace, and mercy before they miss out on a rich and satisfying life that You have promised to all of us who believe in Jesus.

29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

Observation

Have been hoodwinked by the thief? The thief, he has a name – His name is Satan. His purpose, and he is very good at it, is to steal and kill and destroy.

Jesus came to Earth so that we could have eternal life but He also came to give us a rich and satisfying life right here and right now.

Satan, the Devil, always wants to get us off track and his goal is to mess up our lives. He doesn't want us to have rich and satisfying lives.

So let's remember what is most important in life – it is our relationship with the people that God has brought into our lives! Satan wants to destroy what is most important – our relationships and friendships. He is a destroyer.

Matthew 6

25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 

26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 

27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Philippians 4:11

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.

Application

I am going to enjoy the rich and satisfying life that Jesus has provided for me. And I will pray and ask the Lord to keep me on the right track.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, show me that I can trust You with every detail of my life. Help me to be content in a culture that always wants me to be discontented. I am blessed. We have so much in our country compared to the rest of the world. Help me to be a good steward of what You have loaned me. I know that I am not taking anything with me when I leave this Earth.

35 When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”

37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”

38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

39 Then Jesus told him, “I entered this world to render judgment—to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”

Observation

Being physically blind must be really difficult for someone, I can't even imagine. But to be born blind and never having had the opportunity to see anything at all that would be even worse … so what could possibly be worse that that? Jesus tells us what would be worse in John 9 … it is spiritual blindness!

You can have all the money in the world, drive the most expensive car, live in a mansion, have the riches to do whatever you want, but if you are spiritually blind and you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you have nothing.

John 9:38 stands out to me, “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said, and he worshiped Jesus.”

Are you a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? If you are then you are rich!

Luke 16:19-31

19 Jesus said, “There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury. 

20 At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores.

21 As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.

22 “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet. The rich man also died and was buried,

23 and he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.

24 “The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’

25 “But Abraham said to him, ‘Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. 

26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’

27 “Then the rich man said, ‘Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father’s home.

28 For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’

29 “But Abraham said, ‘Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’

30 “The rich man replied, ‘No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’

31 “But Abraham said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Application

I am so grateful to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Once I was blind but now I can see!

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to see both physically and spiritually! I bow my heart in worship to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. I worship You, Jesus, just as the blind man did in John 9. Thank You for my salvation. I am rich because I am one of Your children.

Open up the spiritual eyes of any person who may read this blog. If they are spiritually blind help them to see!

Habakkuk 3

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
    and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
    and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
    and the cattle barns are empty,

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
    I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
    He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
    able to tread upon the heights.

Observation

It would seem that, at least on the surface, Habakkuk had little to rejoice about! God had shared with him all of the bad things that were going to happen to the nation of Israel, but in Habakkuk 3 we find Habakkuk in spite of all the bad news … rejoicing!

When the Apostle Paul was in prison, expecting to be put to death, he wrote the letter to the Philippian believers and the theme of his letter to the church was … Rejoice!

You and I, no matter how bad it gets, if we are believers in Jesus Christ, always have something to rejoice about! ALWAYS!

Get out of that rut! Rejoice in the Lord!

Philippians 4

4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 

5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 

7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:1

Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. I never get tired of telling you these things, and I do it to safeguard your faith.

Application

No matter what happens today or tomorrow I will rejoice in the Lord!

Observation

If I were to ask you what you are praying about what would top your list? Or maybe you have been living life totally on your own and you haven't bothered to pray.

Maybe you think you are too busy to pray!

As I read in 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles this morning it is a very dangerous thing to neglect our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

At the hospital, I sometimes ask a patient, “Are you a praying person?” and I have gotten some very interesting answers, from “not really”, to every morning, each night before I go to bed, and the response that I like the best is, “all the time.”

I don't know what your response to that question would be, but I hope it would be the last one, I hope that you pray all the time!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Luke 18:1

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.

1 Samuel 12:23

Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.

Application

I will never stop praying!

John 6

63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 

Observation

If you were at Heaven's gate, and God were to ask you, “Why should I let you into my Heaven?”, what would you say to Him?

Nothing, my friend, is more important in this life than knowing and personally having the right answer to that question … Nothing!

Sadly, most people when I ask them that question will answer with something like this, “Well, I think that I have been good enough”, or “I have done more good things than bad so I think He is going to let me in!”

If your answer to that question is one of those two responses or something similar then my friend you are depending on human effort and John 6:63 says that human effort accomplishes “nothing”.

Salvation … Eternal life … does not depend on our “goodness”, or our human effort.

Acts 4:11-12

11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,

‘The stone that you builders rejected
    has now become the cornerstone.’

12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

John 5:24

24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 

9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Titus 3:5-6

5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.

6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Romans 10: 9-10,13

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Application

I will always be ready to share with people how to have Eternal life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that people, almost everyone in our country has heard about Jesus. And yet, most of the people who I talk to still are hoping to get into Heaven by being good. Help them to see that they can never ever be good enough to get into Heaven through their own effort. Open up their spiritual eyes!

John 5

24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.

Observation

I couldn't decide which verse to write about this morning from my daily Bible reading so I thought I would share them both with you! With all of the trouble that has come our way with the Covid 19 pandemic and then all of the social unrest that has followed I thought Nahum 1:7 would be a great promise to share.

Bottom line … The LORD is good! God is not mean. He wants us to trust Him. He wants for us to go to Him for protection when trouble and trials come our way. He has promised to be close to us when we are trusting in Him.

John 5:24 is also a great promise for me and it is for you too. Read it. Reread it. And read it again until the truth of what the verse says is deeply planted in your heart. Think about this verse … meditate on what it says … let it sink in!

God is good. He is a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him.

Application

I don't know about you, but I am holding on to these two great promises!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I feel sorry for people who do not have You for a refuge. Trouble is all around us. Every day it seems like something else is happening and none of it is good. Thank You for being my refuge, my hiding place. You are my Protector. Nothing can touch my life without Your permission. Help me to trust You with everything in my life.

I pray for those who are going through difficult times. Help them to hold on to all of Your promises. Give them strength. I pray for those who are sick. I pray for healing. Be their refuge, Lord.

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. 

20 So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”

21 Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. 

22 You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews. 

23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 

24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus told her, “I am the Messiah!”

39 Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” 

40 When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, 

41 long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. 

42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”

Observation

Jesus and His encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4 should help all of us realize that it is not good people that go to heaven and bad people who go to hell.

The Samaritan woman had quite an interesting background, five husbands and the guy that she was now living with she was not even married to.

And yet, after she realized that Jesus was the Messiah, she brought the message of salvation to her entire village. They all became believers because of testimony.

All of us are sinners. All of us, like the Samaritan woman have a past. There are things that we have done that we are not proud of, or at least I know that there are things in my past that I am not proud of.

When Jesus saved me He saved me from my past sins, my present sins, and my future sins. I have eternal life and it started the moment that I believed.

Nothing can separate me from the love of Christ!

Romans 8:38-39

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 

39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Application

I need to share the message of Christ with those that God brings into my life. I need to look past their lifestyle and see them as Jesus sees them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me Your heart and Your eyes for the people around me. Don't let me give up on anybody. All of us need Your salvation. Give me the ability to engage people like Jesus did. Give me the right words to share with people to move them closer to You.

I pray for our pastors. Give them strength. Help them. Give them wisdom to lead us. Help them to stay true to Your Word. Protect their families. Bless them, Lord!

3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

4 “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?”

5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.

6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ 

8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”

9 “How are these things possible?” Nicodemus asked.

10 Jesus replied, “You are a respected Jewish teacher, and yet you don’t understand these things? 

11 I assure you, we tell you what we know and have seen, and yet you won’t believe our testimony. 

12 But if you don’t believe me when I tell you about earthly things, how can you possibly believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 

13 No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. 

14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 

15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 

Observation

Here is something way more important than whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or an Independent!

Are you born again?

If you don't understand the question then you will identify with Nicodemus in John 3, he didn't understand what being “born again” meant either.

John 3:15 tells us exactly how to be born again, “So that everyone (that includes me and you) who believes (places our trust) in him (Jesus) has eternal life.

When I ask someone about their relationship to Jesus Christ I get some very interesting answers. Some will quickly say, “I don't go to church!”, others will answer usually just as quickly, “Oh, I believe in God!”, and others will answer with “It's fine!”

What I am listening for is an answer that lets me know that they have been “born again”! Answers like these: “He is my Lord and Savior!”, or “I surrendered or gave my life to Jesus when I was 50 years old (I just picked the number 50 to let you know that you could place your faith in Jesus at any age!) 

Some of you who are reading this blog may need to be “born again”.

We live in a crazy world. A world that seems to be quickly spinning out of control. It is a great time to ponder or rethink the question, “Have you been born again”?

I like John 3:16 in the King James, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Place your name where it says “whosoever”!

Application

I will share the Good News about Jesus with everyone I can!

Heavenly Father, what our country and what our world needs is for more and more people to place their faith and their trust in Jesus. In this time of turmoil and social unrest more that ever we need a spiritual revival. Raise up godly leaders, Lord, leaders who will turn our country in Your direction. I am trusting You. No matter how bad things get in this world I am going to trust You. Thank You for giving me eternal life!
