Do You Hear What These Children Are Saying?
Scripture
Matthew 21
15 The leading priests and the teachers of religious law saw these wonderful miracles and heard even the children in the Temple shouting, “Praise God for the Son of David.”
But the leaders were indignant. 16 They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”
“Yes,” Jesus replied. “Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’”
Observation
They missed it. They totally missed out on what God was doing. Who are they? It was the religious folk that missed out. God was working all around them, but they were angry because their world was being stirred up. It is the same today.
At our church we just had the coolest event called 24-hours to Feed The City where we took over 2,000 meals to people in our city. We had over 150 people volunteer during that 24-hour period and yet on Sunday I started out the day with an angry church member telling me how I was destroying the church. Hmmm, obviously that person wasn’t one of the 150 volunteers …or he would have been excited about what God is doing at our church. Missing out…it still happens today!
Even the children and infants were praising God about what Jesus was doing, but the religious leaders of that day totally missed it.
Application
I will focus on reaching people that don’t know Jesus. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me never to miss what You are doing in the lives of the people around me. Help me always to be excited about people coming to faith in You. Don’t let me ever become a grumpy, mean old man. If I ever start to get like that please just take me home. Thank You for all of our friends and thank You for our family. Thank You for a day called “Thanksgiving” a day set aside just to give You thanks!
