1 Chronicles 14; 1 Chronicles 15; Psalm 132; Matthew 18
Lord,
How Often Should I Forgive
Someone Who Sins Against Me?
Scripture
Matthew 18
21 Then Peter came to him and
asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against
me? Seven times?”
22 “No,
not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!
Observation
We learned last night in our life group REAL MARRIAGE
that the alternative to forgiveness is bitterness and the alternative to
bitterness is forgiveness. When you and I refuse to forgive someone the roots
of bitterness begin to sink down deep into our hearts.
I heard someone say that refusing to forgive someone is
like drinking poison and then thinking that the poison is going to hurt the
other person.
Bitterness destroys. It destroys relationships. It
destroys marriages. It destroys businesses. It even destroys churches.
You and I are not hurting the other person when we refuse
to forgive. We are hurting ourselves.
Application
I will ask the Lord to help me with forgiveness.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You know that sometimes I don’t want to
forgive someone when they wrong me. You know that I want to get even. Give me
the ability to forgive as You have forgiven me. Don’t let the root of
bitterness take a foothold in my life. Help those that are close to me forgive
those that have harmed them. Show them that they are only hurting themselves by
refusing to forgive.
