Now
That I Am Old And Gray
Do Not Abandon Me, O God

Okay, maybe it is because today is Monday, but this verse definitely seems to fit. I woke up feeling like I need to drink an entire bottle of Geritol! I just “googled” and found out that they still make Geritol! No, I don’t think that I need to take any more medicine, vitamins, or supplements! On some days and especially on some Mondays we just have to suck it up and get moving! We have to do things whether we feel like it or not.

Scripture

Psalm 71

18 Now that I am old and gray,
do not abandon me, O God.
Let me proclaim your power to this new generation,
your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Observation

Okay, maybe it is because today is Monday, but this verse definitely seems to fit.

I woke up feeling like I need to drink an entire bottle of Geritol! I just “googled” and found out that they still make Geritol!

No, I don’t think that I need to take any more medicine, vitamins, or supplements!

It is a Monday morning!

Mondays can be rough for anybody even if you are not old and gray like I am.

There are some days when we just need to tie a knot in the end of our rope and hang on.

On some days and especially on some Mondays we just have to suck it up and get moving! We have to do things whether we feel like it or not.

And some days I think that you and I need to do just like the Psalmist and cry out to our God and say, “Do not abandon me, O God.”

Application

So here is what I am going to do.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalm 55:22

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! Habakkuk 318

Prayer

17 O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood,
and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do.
18 Now that I am old and gray,
do not abandon me, O God.
Let me proclaim your power to this new generation,
your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

19 Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens.
You have done such wonderful things.
Who can compare with you, O God?
20 You have allowed me to suffer much hardship,
but you will restore me to life again
and lift me up from the depths of the earth.
21 You will restore me to even greater honor
and comfort me once again.    Psalm 71:17-21

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
    and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
    and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights.  Habakkuk 3:17-19
