Scripture

Nehemiah 9

The Israelites Confess Their Sins

1 On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and having dust on their heads. 2 Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers. 3 They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.

Acts 2

36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Observation

There is no more positive word in the dictionary than the word “REPENT”. For some strange reason we tend to think of it as a negative word but it couldn’t be any more positive. When we are living life for ourselves, it always results in misery and destruction. You can look at the nation of Israel as an example or just read this mornings newspaper or listen to five minutes of news on the television, or just look at the lives of people in your family – self-centered living always leads to misery and destruction!

Application

Have you applied this very positive word to your life today? Where is God? Is He directing your life and are you living for Him? Or do you find yourself going in your own direction and moving away from God?

The reason that the word “REPENT” is such a positive word is that once you have “Repented” turning from “sin” and “self” and turning to God and eternal life, once you have done that, then you will live a life that is blessed by God. That is why Jesus said in John 10:10b “I have come that you may have life and have it to its fullest”. Are you experiencing that kind of life today - A life full of meaning and purpose? You can if you will “Repent” today! Click here for more information about making this wonderful decision!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise you because you are a God of mercy and kindness. Thank you for your goodness. Thank you for giving me an abundant life full of purpose and meaning. Help people close to me realize that they need to repent and turn from their lives of sin and self and turn to you. I pray for their salvation today. Amen.
