Scripture
Matthew 8
20 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
Observation
If you are reading this you are probably not homeless, but Jesus when He walked on this earth was homeless. He made a point of mentioning this when some insincere men said that they wanted to become His followers. He was telling them that they had better count the cost!
In our country the cost for being a Christian is not huge like it is in India, Korea, Vietnam, the Sudan, or still in China. We don’t understand what it means to suffer for Jesus. We have a hard time understanding this passage because we are so blessed. Even though affluence is not always a blessing is it?
In this passage Jesus told one of His would be followers to count the cost of being His disciple and He said to the other that the call to follow Him could not wait!
It is our choice to be poor so others can be rich and it is our choice to not put off His call on our lives.
Application
Is there anything keeping me from following Jesus 100%?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, show me if there is anything that is keeping me from completely following you. I understand that Jesus limited Himself on earth to a very few possessions even though He actually owned everything. It was all His but He denied Himself. Give me that kind of heart.
