Don’t
Be Impressed
With Your Own Wisdom
I
talked to someone the other day and when I left a deep sense of sadness filled
my heart. This sadness returns every time I think of this individual. So sad
because this person thinks that he is wise! He thinks that he and only a few
other people really know what is going on in this world. He believes that
everyone in a position of authority is out to get us. He believes that they are
the enemy.
Scripture
Proverbs 3
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your
own wisdom.
Observation
I
talked to someone the other day and when I left a deep sense of sadness filled
my heart. This sadness returns every time I think of this individual. So sad
because this person thinks that he is wise! He thinks that he and only a few
other people really know what is going on in this world. He believes that
everyone in a position of authority is out to get us. He believes that they are
the enemy.
What
really makes me sad about the entire conversation is that when he talked he
never included God’s part in what is happening around the world. In fact, he
never mentioned God at all.
The
prince of this world is Satan. He is cunning. He is scheming. And He is working
out all sorts of plans and all sorts of evil all around us. Unless you and I
have a personal relationship with the King of King and the Lord of Lords we
could think that all of the evil around us is going to prevail.
When
someone talks about world events and doesn’t talk about God’s part in what’s
going on then don’t be impressed with their wisdom.
Lets
practice Proverbs 3:5-7 and “Trust in the LORD with all of our hearts; Lets not
depend on our own understanding. Let’s seek His will in all that we do. Lets
not be impressed with our own understanding!”
Application
I
will trust the Lord with all my heart. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, living in this world means dealing with trouble. Evil is all around us.
I thank You for giving us Your Word. Your Word is an anchor for us when we go
through storms in this life. We know how this story ends. We know Who is in
control. Evil will not ultimately prevail. The Evil One will be defeated. The
wicked will be judged and punished. We will be rewarded. If God is on my side
why should I be afraid? What can mere
men do to me? I pray for this individual and I pray that you give him Wisdom
that comes from above. Help him to put his trust in You.
