Don’t Be Selfish;
Don’t Try To Impress Others.
Be Humble, Thinking Of Others As Better Than Yourselves.

Scripture

Philippians 2

3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.

7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,

8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Observation

Me, Me, Me, Mine, Mine, Mine is what brings pain and death to relationships! I know personally what the biggest struggle is in all of my relationships; “I” is the problem.

In Philippians 2:3-11 the Apostle Paul says that you and I must have the attitude of Christ Jesus, who though He was God, gave up His divine privileges and humbled Himself and died a criminals death on the cross.

If we think back to our most recent argument and if were honest we would have to admit humility was not part of the fight.

Drama, fights, stress, tension, and arguments happen when we demand to be right. Haven’t we learned yet that being right all the time destroys, yes destroys what could have been a great relationship or great relationships?

Let’s think of others as better than ourselves and watch how it revolutionizes our relationships. The number 3 on the mirror in our bathroom reminds me: Jesus 1st, Others 2nd, and Eddy 3rd!

Application

I will memorize Philippians 2:3-5 this week and I will think more about the needs of others than my own. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know how I struggle with putting others needs above my own. It is so easy for me to just think about me. Help me think of those around me and think about what they are going through rather than just thinking about myself. Help me to have the same attitude of Christ Jesus. Show me when and how to help those that you bring across my path. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. You are Worthy to be praised!
