Against All Hope, Abraham In Hope Believed

Against All Hope,
Abraham
In Hope Believed
Scripture
Romans 4
18 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.
20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone,
24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Observation
This Sunday will be my last day of training as a chaplain intern at Tampa General Hospital. I have enjoyed visiting patients and working with the other chaplains.
Hopefully I will now be able to be what they call at the hospital a “pool chaplain” and be able to work in some hospital on a part-time basis.
Over the past several months I have visited with patients, way too many that were in a situation similar to what Abraham faced. As I have prayed with them I have asked God to intervene and I have prayed for healing.
How can we ever understand why a 12-year-old would have an aggressive cancerous brain tumor? Last night I prayed with this 12-year-old and her Mom. I asked for God to intervene and to heal. Against all hope in hope we prayed.
Here is what I know: God is good. And when we can't understand why He has allowed something bad like this to happen. We should, just like Abraham, trust God's heart.
Application
When I can't see God's Hand I will trust His heart!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray for those who are facing situations where there seems to be no hope. Show them that in You there is always hope. Help them to trust You during this seemingly hopeless time in their life. Show them Your mighty power! I pray for healing for those who are sick. I pray for those who are suffering from emotional problems. Nothing is too hard for You.
I know the power of prayer. I am living proof. Every day that I have breath I give You thanks. Thank You for saving my soul and thank You for saving my life. You are a good, good Heavenly Father. You are worthy of all praise!
