For Those Who Exalt Themselves Will Be Humbled, And Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted.

For Those Who Exalt Themselves Will Be Humbled,
And
Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted.
Scripture
Luke 14
7 When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit in the seats of honor near the head of the table, he gave them this advice:
8 “When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited?
9 The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!
10 “Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests.
11 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Observation
An elephant and a mouse were walking together and came to a rickety old wooden bridge. As they set foot on the bridge, it rumbled and shook at the impact, making quite a disturbance. Once they had safely reached the other side, the mouse proudly remarked, “We really shook that bridge, didn’t we!”
I read that story from someone's blog who was describing the humility of Billy Graham. Billy Graham never forgot that he was a farm boy from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. And he was amazed that God could use him like He did.” He knew that he was just the mouse on the rickety old wooden bridge (taken from Jim Buchan's Blogsite).
Here are a few quotes that I have learned to love about humility:
Humility, once we think we have it – we've lost it.”
I remember hearing this quote credited to Harry Truman that says, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit."
Never take a pat on the back unless it is way down low!” This was shared with me by Dr. Waylon B. Moore when I was just starting out in the ministry! In other words, Eddy, you need to be careful that you don't let compliments go to your head and cause you to think that what was accomplished was because of you and not because of Christ who lives in you.
Application
I want to always remember that I am the small mouse on the rickety old wooden bridge.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. One day, we will stand before You and we will be judged for how we have lived our lives. Help me to live my life in a way that makes You smile. Work in and through my life and help me remember to give You the credit for any good thing that is done through me. You alone are worthy of praise!
