Remember This – A Farmer Who Plants Only A Few Seeds
Will Get A Small Crop. But The One
Who Plants Generously Will Get A Generous Crop.
Scripture
2 Corinthians 9
6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
“They
share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their
good deeds will be remembered forever.”
10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
Observation
God says that when it comes to our giving we should act like a successful farmer – we should be very generous. If a farmer only planted a couple of seeds on his farm and then complained because he hardly had anything to harvest or anything to eat we would call him foolish. It is common sense, even if we are not farmers we know that the more seeds that one plants the greater his or her harvest will be!
God says that the law of the harvest is true for our giving too!
Are you struggling financially? Maybe, just maybe it is because you have only been planting a few seeds. Read and reread 2 Corinthians 8 & 9 and increase your giving. Put the law of the harvest into practice!
Application
I will look for ways to be generous today.
How about you? Who needs your help?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to consistently put the law of the harvest into practice. It really is a no-brainer and yet the tendency to be stingy is always there. I do believe that I can never out give You. You are always generous. You always show me so much grace. You love me so much. Help me to be just like You. Help me to be generous.
I pray for the man that I talked to last night at the hospital who has lost a leg and now thinks he is hopeless because he can no longer work at his job. Help him to place his trust and his hope in You. Provide for him, Lord. Show him that he can trust You.
