Scripture
Solomon's Wisdom
1 Kings 4
29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 30 Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the men of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 He was wiser than any other man, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations. 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. 33 He described plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also taught about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. 34 Men of all nations came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.
Observation
God is not going to make us as wise as Solomon but he does say that he will give us wisdom if we will ask him in faith. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
We need God’s wisdom for life today. Are you asking God to make you wise? Ask him for discernment and wisdom today.
Application
What am I facing today that I need God’s wisdom for?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, make me wise and skillful to be able to lead, as I should. Give me wisdom to help other people as they come to me with their problems. Keep the evil one away from me today. Give us wisdom as we meet to plan this evening for the year to come.
