Scripture

1 Corinthians 9

22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Observation

The key to bringing people to Jesus is “finding common ground” with them. Paul said that no matter who he was with whether it was Jews, Gentiles, or folks that were weak he found common ground with them so he could bring them the message of Christ. He did whatever it took so people could hear the Good News and be saved.

So if it is someone that is homeless or someone that is very well off, someone struggling with alcohol, drugs, or some other kind of addiction, someone that loves to play golf, or loves to fish, or someone that is into computers, we have to find common ground with them to bring them to Christ.
How are we doing at finding common ground?

Application

I will look for someone that needs Jesus and I will then look for “common ground”.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to find someone that needs Jesus and then show me how to relate to him. Show me where we have the common ground. So he has the opportunity to be saved.
