Scripture
1 Corinthians 12
7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.
Observation
Paul was talking to Christians and told them that the reason that God had given them a spiritual gift(s) was for others. We have been given the spiritual gift(s) for the benefit of the church, the body of Christ. They are not for our own use or for our own ego; no they are to help believers around us.
I have noticed that people who are single have a huge problem understanding that they are to use their spiritual gift(s) and serve. I guess because they are single and don’t have the responsibility and probably the support of a spouse that for many of them their world revolves around themselves. But Paul says that they are to use their spiritual gift or spiritual gifts to serve others.
Paul suggested that folks should remain single if possible so that they could commit more of their time to serving the Lord. It makes sense that if you are single (never married) and don’t have the responsibility of a family or of taking care of the needs of a spouse that you as a single person would have more time to be devoted to the Lord. Paul says that if you can remain single do it so you can serve the Lord with more devotion. I need to encourage our singles to step up to the plate and be more committed to serving others.
Application
I will work harder at involving our members in areas of service especially our singles.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to serve You and love You with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind and with all my strength.
