Details That Distract Us From The Main Thing!

Luke 10

Scripture

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Observation

Martha was busy. She was preparing a big meal. Mary was at the feet of Jesus evidently listening to Him teaching. Martha was mad because Mary wasn’t helping her fix the meal. Mary was enjoying the spiritual food and that was enough for her. Martha missed out on what was important that day. Jesus didn’t give in to her. He let her know that Mary had chosen to do something that was more important than preparing a big meal. Think about it if Martha had decided to join Mary at the feet of Jesus, Jesus could have instantly taken care of a meal for them. We get caught up in the details and we miss the important things.

Being with Jesus is still the most important thing … spend time with Him this morning!

I am spending time with Jesus. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is so easy to get distracted. It is so easy to get caught up in the details that we miss time with You. Help me focus today on Jesus. Bring people into my life that need Jesus.
