1 Chronicles 14; 1 Chronicles 15; Psalm 132; Matthew 18
How Often Should I Forgive Someone
Who
Sins Against Me?
Scripture
Matthew 18
21 Then Peter came to him and
asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven
times?”
22 “No,
not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!
Observation
A gift is something that is given to us or that we
give freely! It is not something that is earned! Forgiveness is a gift that you
and I need to learn to give to me no matter how they feel about us or how many
times they continue to wrong us.
I watch people that instead of forgiving someone they
retaliate and try to hurt the person more in return instead of forgiving them.
We heard a story this week that was shared in our life
group that shows us how we are to treat our enemies. This story reveals the
very heart of God.
If you want to read this short story it is found in 2
Kings 6:8-22. It is how the Prophet of God named Elisha treated his enemies!
Take a minute to read it.
We are always the losers if we don’t forgive!
Application
I will give a gift to someone who has in the past chosen
to be my enemy and has tried to hurt me.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, someone has said that we are most like
You when we are generous and that may be true, but I think that we are also
most like You when we forgive someone who has wronged us. Forgiveness takes
generosity to a whole new level. You have unconditionally forgiven me so I must
forgive others that have wronged me.
I pray for those who have been recently hurt by someone
else. I pray that they will be able to give the gift of forgiveness to those
who have hurt them. Help them not retaliate. Help them to love and not get
even. Give them hearts like Yours. Help them to see people from Your
perspective. Help them to see the big picture.
