For The World Offers Only A Craving For Physical
Pleasure,
A Craving For Everything We See,
And Pride In Our Achievements And Possessions.
Scripture
1 John 2
15 Do not love this world nor
the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love
of the Father in you.
16 For the world offers only a
craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in
our achievements and possessions.
These are not from the Father, but are from
this world.
1 John 5
21 Dear children, keep away from anything
that might take God’s place in your hearts.
Observation
Merry
Christmas! Waking up this morning after having a great time with a lot (but not
all) of our extended family last night and after having experienced a wonderful
Christmas Eve service with so many of our church family … Kathy and I are
blessed!
These
verses from 1 John are a reminder to me and hopefully a reminder to you that
the Christmas is not receiving “Stuff”; it is not even about giving “Stuff”.
In
fact, it is not about “Stuff” at all!
It
is about Jesus Christ! It is about having a personal relationship with Him. Do
you know Him?
If
you don’t know Him as your Lord and Savior then you can’t experience Christmas.
It
might be “Stuffmas” today, but it sure won’t be “Christmas”!
Application
I will put “stuff” in its proper place as I start out this day. I will
enjoy the people that God has brought into my life! How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, thank You for putting in our hearts the idea of celebrating the birth
of Your Son. I know that we mess up this day with lots of stuff that doesn’t
belong with the birth of Jesus and I confess that I am guilty of dragging lots
of stuff into this holiday that really don’t belong. Help me not lose the true
meaning of Christmas. Don’t let all the “stuff” rob me of its joy, its awe, and
its wonder.
