When I Look At The Night Sky And See The Work
Of Your Fingers—The Moon And The Stars You Set In Place--
What Are Mere Mortals That You Should Think About Them …
Scripture
Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—

4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?

5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.

6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
9 O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Observation
It is amazing that the God who created this vast universe would think about us. Billions and Billions of stars, so many that it is impossible to number them and yet He knows each one of them by name!
Our Bible study at church this morning is “God has given us ways to know He exists.”
Boy, He sure has! Just walk outside and look up! God has made everything so wonderfully diverse – just think about nature around us or the miracle of the human body. He is an awesome Creator God!
Psalm 19
1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.

2 Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.

3 They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.

4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.
God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.

5 It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.
It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.

6 The sun rises at one end of the heavens
and follows its course to the other end.
Nothing can hide from its heat.
Job 9:9
He made all the starsthe Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the southern sky.
Psalm 33:6
The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born.
Psalm 147:4
He counts the stars and calls them all by name.
Job 40:26
Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.
Application
I agree with the Psalmist, “O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens.”
How about you? Do you recognize all the ways that God has given to us to know that He exists?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am in awe when I look up at the moon and the stars. I am amazed at sunsets and sunrises. When I think about my body, how complex it is, and the miracle that it is still working, I want to give You praise. You are worthy of all praise. Everything that I see around me that You created and I realize that You created it for me, my family and for my friends. It blows me away to think about Your goodness. To think that You love me that much. Especially amazing because I know that I don't deserve Your love. Your glory is higher than the heavens!
Daily Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 1,2,3,4; I added: Psalm 8, Psalm 38; Proverbs 8
