Got Some Battles Going On?

Here Is How You Win

It Is Pretty Amazing

Scripture

1 Samuel 14

⁶ “Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”

Observation

This is one of the craziest stories if you look at it from a human point of view. Jonathan, the son of King Saul tells his armor bearer that the two of them are going to go over and pick a fight with the Philistines. So he leaves his Dad Saul and the other 600 Israelite soldiers and the two go alone to do battle with the Philistines.   

But they were not alone! Jonathan makes this amazing statement of faith to his armor bearer, “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” 

Where did Jonathan learn to have that kind of faith in the Lord? Wow!

I hope you have taken the time to read the story this morning from 1 Samuel 14 because it is an amazing story and it teaches you and me a huge lesson! God can fight our battles for us. And if God fights our battles then we don’t need an army to help us. You and me + God = Victory!

The Bible teaches us that every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is involved in a spiritual battle. We are engaged in spiritual warfare whether we like it or not. If you had the time or the desire I am sure that you could write me and at least name one battle that you are fighting right now.

Here is my suggestion: 

Why not let God fight the battle for you? Jonathan and his armor bearer did go over and they began to fight the Philistines but Jonathan did it knowing that God was the One who was really going to win the battle. It is an amazing story. We can have just the same kind of amazing story if we put our faith and trust in God and let Him fight our battles.  

Application

I have battles going on in my life right now and I am asking God to fight them for me. How about you?  

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the Lord of Heaven’s armies! Nothing is too hard for You. You have  told us that because of Jesus Christ the victory is already ours. Today we are fighting battles that we cannot win on our own. They are way too big for us. For some their battle is a relationship, for others their battle is finances, for others it is health and finances, but whatever our battles are we need Your help. 

Give us the faith of Jonathan so we can invite You to fight our battles for us. You are Mighty God. You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. You are Victorious!
