Smelly Smelly Good!

Scripture

2 Corinthians 2

¹⁴ But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. ¹⁵ Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. ¹⁶ To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?

Observation

Paul reminds us that to some people we are smelly smelly good, but to others we smell like death and doom. So it shouldn’t surprise us when we sometimes get persecuted for our faith or some people really don’t like to be around us. 

I like the idea of smelling like perfume a lot better than smelling like death and doom, but we are both if we are Christ Followers. I like what it says in verse fifteen where Paul says, “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God.” Think about being a Christ-like fragrance and our smell rises all the way up to God. Cool!

Application

I will take time this week to invite our neighbors to church for Easter Sunday. I will take the fragrance of Christ around the neighborhood. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.
