Open The Mouth Of The First Fish
You Catch
And You Will Find A Large Silver Coin
Matthew 17
24 On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?”
25 “Yes, he does,” Peter replied. Then he went into the house.
But before he had a chance to speak, Jesus asked him, “What do you think, Peter? Do kings tax their own people or the people they have conquered?”
26 “They tax the people they have conquered,” Peter replied.
“Well, then,” Jesus said, “the citizens are free! 27 However, we don’t want to offend them, so go down to the lake and throw in a line. Open the mouth of the first fish you catch, and you will find a large silver coin. Take it and pay the tax for both of us.”
Observation
This
is my kind of fishing! Try to top this fishing story!
So
go down to the lake and throw in a line, open the mouth of the first fish you
catch and you will find a large silver coin.
Wow!
I bet Peter looked in the mouth of every fish’s mouth from then on! I sure
would have!
What
is the lesson for you and me? What is it that God wants us to learn?
Here
it is, “He is enough!”
And this same God who takes care of me
will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to
us in Christ Jesus.
But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:25
Application
God
can and God will take care of me. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, this story is a reminder to me that You have a trillion, no You have a
zillion ways of taking care of Kathy and me. What I need to be concerned about
is keeping You and Your kingdom first in my life and You will take care of all
of my needs. Thank You for the reminder this morning. You are enough for me!
