Will Be The Greatest Then

Scripture

Luke 13

³⁰ And note this: Some who seem least important now will be the greatest then, and some who are the greatest now will be least important then.”

Observation

Things will be so different when we get to Heaven! Those who we have hardly noticed will be the greatest and many of us will be the least important then. I was reminded this week how important it is just to love the people that God brings into your life. We are even commanded to love those folks who seem to be very difficult and unlovable.

I watched our mission team extend Christ’s love to some folks this week and I saw how it changed those people and moved those people closer to a personal relationship with Christ!

Jesus took time for people.

In chapter 13 of Luke we see Jesus taking time to heal a woman who had been doubled over, crippled for 18 years. The Pharisees were angry with Jesus because He healed the woman on the Sabbath. They didn’t care that the woman could now walk upright and that she was no longer crippled.

Are you saying that Jesus would have sent a mission team from Florida to have them spend the majority of their time sharing the love of Christ with two families in Long Island? As you read the New Testament you will find that most of the stories are about one on one encounters just like our team experienced in Long Island this past week.

Application

I will look for people who need to hear about Christ’s love for them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to go to Long Island this past week. Thank You for allowing me the privilege of watching how You used the people on our team to touch the lives of folks in Baldwin, New York. Continue to use other teams to move these people to an even closer personal relationship with You. Give Kathy and I the opportunity to share the Good News with people that come to Mission Tampa this morning. Open their spiritual eyes so they can come to Christ.

Who, O LORD, Could Ever Survive?

Psalm 130

³ Lord, if you kept a record of our sins,
    who, O Lord, could ever survive?
 
⁴ But you offer forgiveness,
    that we might learn to fear you.

Observations

I could have written about Daniel and the Lions’ den or John the Baptist this morning, but instead I will share something from Psalm 130.

Sometimes I am sure that you must think that you are one of the worst sinners on the planet. I have. Trust me if everyone could see all the sins of my life and all the sins of your life they would see that we are rotten sinners to the core. And they would realize that they are just like us!

“For all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

    “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8

    "I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. John 5:24

“He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west” Psalm 103:12

Application

I will thank the Lord today for forgiving me of “all” my sins. How about you?

Prayer

³⁷ For nothing is impossible with God.”

Observation

Maybe you and I need a reminder this morning that “nothing is impossible with God.” Maybe you have some “impossibles” in your life! I know I do.

It is always good to remember this truth about the God we serve!

Never give up! 

Zechariah and Elizabeth served the Lord faithfully and God blessed them with a son. They never gave up! God did the impossible and gave them a son! 

God did the impossible and gave the Virgin Mary a Son. After the angel Gabriel gave Mary the news that she was going to have a son her response was an incredible statement of faith. “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”

What do you have today that seems totally impossible? Remember what Jesus told His disciples in Luke 18:1 “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.”

 Application

I will never give up praying for those in my family that need a relationship with Jesus Christ.  

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that with You nothing is impossible! I know that I should always pray and never give up. Help me today to walk by faith. Help me to continue praying for those that need a relationship with You. I pray that You draw them to Yourself. Nothing is too hard or impossible for You.

Observation

As I finish reading the New Testament today and know the wonderful future that God has in store for me I agree, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”

Life is tough. One day this life filled with difficulties will all be over. Jesus will return. 

¹² “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. ¹³ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”

Application

 I need to focus on what God would have me to do today because Jesus is coming soon!

Observation

Here is the entire Psalm:

³ Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine,
    flourishing within your home.

Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees
    as they sit around your table.

⁴ That is the Lord’s blessing
    for those who fear him.

⁵ May the Lord continually bless you from Zion.
    May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live.
 
⁶ May you live to enjoy your grandchildren.
    May Israel have peace!

 

Application

I will thank God for the blessing of living to enjoy my children!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I realize that it is a blessing to live long enough to enjoy my grandchildren. It is a blessing to have grandchildren! I am very blessed. Thank You for each one of them. I pray for them today. I pray that they grow up with a desire to live for You. 

I pray that each one of them has a personal relationship with You. I pray for their parents. I pray that their parents would love You with all their hearts. I pray that they would put You first so they could live lives under the umbrella of your Blessing.

Revelation 19

10b … For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”

The Rider on the White Horse

¹¹ Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.
 
¹² His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself.
 
¹³ He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God.
 
¹⁴ The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses.
 
¹⁵ From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress.
 
¹⁶ On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

Observation

The goal of preaching is to give a clear witness for Jesus. Next week I am joining a group of believers on a mission trip to Long Island to be a part of the Sandy Rebuild project. Even though we are going to help rebuild houses that were damaged or destroyed by hurricane Sandy our primary task will be to give a clear witness for Jesus.

My prayer for Pastor Bruce Moore is that tomorrow he gives a clear witness of Jesus and that people would be saved.

It is the essence of who we are! We are Christ followers! We are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ and the whole world needs to hear our message. It is their only hope.

This past Monday Kathy had the opportunity to lead a young man named Sean to faith in Christ. Hopefully he will join us at church tomorrow. When we arrived at Mission Tampa this past Monday before we got out of the car we prayed that God would open the mind and the heart of someone to the Gospel message. God did. Sean said “Yes” to Jesus.

Application

As I take care of my grandchildren today while Kathy goes to my daughter Debby’s baby shower I will try to plant seeds of the Gospel in their young hearts!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for Pastor Bruce that as he prepares today for tomorrow’s message that You give him just the right words to share. I pray that Your Holy Spirit work through him in a mighty way to bring people to a personal relationship with Jesus. I pray that he is able to give a clear witness for Jesus.

²⁶ I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing.

Observation

This verse reminds me of an old hymn that we used to sing that I really liked. It was written in 1883 by a guy named Daniel Whittle (google search!)

There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love;
There shall be seasons refreshing,
Sent from the Savior above.

Application

I will listen to this old hymn and then I am going to sing it all day long and Praise my God!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending me showers of blessing. I am so blessed. My life is so filled with so many things that I deserve to thank You for. Everyday that I wake up to live another day is a blessing from You.

The God Whom We Serve 

Is Able To Save Us

Daniel 3

¹⁷ If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. ¹⁸ But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Observation

I want the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. How about you? This is real faith! I love it when they respond to King Nebuchadnezzar and say, “But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” 

I love this story. 

²¹ So they tied them up and threw them into the furnace, fully dressed in their pants, turbans, robes, and other garments. ²² And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in. ²³ So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.

²⁴ But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”

“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.

²⁵ “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”

²⁶ Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!”

So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. ²⁷ Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!

The fire was so hot that it killed the men that threw them into the fiery furnace yet not a hair on their heads were singed, and they didn’t even smell of smoke! Amazing!

We have a God that can take care of us just like He did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 

Application

Today I will believe God is just who He says He is and I will believe that He will do everything He has promised to do.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, this story is in the Bible to encourage us. You have showed us what You will do for those who trust in You. Lord I know that You will keep Your promises.

²¹ He controls the course of world events;
    he removes kings and sets up other kings.

Observation

Just in case you and I begin to feel like this world is spinning out of control Daniel reminds us Who is in control. It is not Obama and the USA, or Putin of the Soviet Union, or Assad the evil leader in Syria. God is in control. He is still on His throne. He still controls the course of world events. He still removes leaders and sets up other leaders of governments. Lets not forget that as we face this uncertain future.

Application

I will praise the name of God forever and ever because He has all wisdom and power.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, praise Your name forever and ever, for  You have all wisdom and power. You control the course of world events; You remove kings and You set up other kings. You are Worthy of All Praise! Bless my granddaughter Sierra on her birthday today! May Your face continue to shine on her and her family!

²² The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
    His mercies never cease.

²³ Great is his faithfulness;
    his mercies begin afresh each morning.

²⁴ I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance;
    therefore, I will hope in him!”

Observation

No matter how badly we messed up yesterday we have a God that is willing to start all over with us “afresh” today! His mercies begin afresh each morning! Great is His faithfulness.

Each morning that we are fortunate enough to wake up starts a new day! Each morning gives us the chance to say to ourselves, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in Him!”

How about today? Need a fresh start? Why not meditate all day today on verse 23 and pray it back to God, “Great is His Faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”

Okay you messed up yesterday! Today is a new day! Give this day to the LORD.

Application

I will say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance, therefore, I will hope in Him today!”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today I want to be guided by Your voice. I want to be directed by Your Holy Spirit. Don’t let me mess up today. You have said in Your Word that You are good to those who depend on You, to those who search for You.  So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from You. Lamentations 3:25-26

Observation

What we have to share with the world is not just Good News; it is the Everlasting Good News! It is the only news that can change a person’s life forever and ever!

I am looking forward to sharing that Good News with the folks at Mission Tampa in a few minutes.

I love to hear testimonies about how God has changed their life. It is amazing to watch God change lives every week at Christ Fellowship!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing someone into my life that shared the Good News with me. Guide me today to someone that needs to hear about You today. Give me the boldness to share with them. Open up minds and hearts today to receive the Good News about Christ.

¹¹ And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb

Observation

I don’t understand much that I read today in Revelation 12. But this part of verse 11 I do understand.

It is by the blood of the Lamb that we are victorious! We have power over evil by the blood of the Lamb. We have forgiveness of our sins by the blood of the Lamb.

Isaiah 53:

    [7] He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth.

1 Peter 1:18-19

¹⁸ For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. ¹⁹ It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

 Application

I will walk in victory today by the Power of the blood of the Lamb!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for paying a ransom to save me from the empty life that I inherited from my parents. I know that You paid that ransom with something far greater than gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven:
“The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ,
    and he will reign forever and ever.”

¹⁶ The twenty-four elders sitting on their thrones before God fell with their faces to the ground and worshiped him.  

¹⁷ And they said,

“We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty,
    the one who is and who always was,
for now you have assumed your great power
    and have begun to reign.
¹⁸ The nations were filled with wrath,
    but now the time of your wrath has come.
It is time to judge the dead
    and reward your servants the prophets,
    as well as your holy people,
and all who fear your name,
    from the least to the greatest.
It is time to destroy
    all who have caused destruction on the earth.”

Observation

I love reading the book of Revelation and Ezekiel all at the same time! Judgment is coming. Satan’s days are short. 

This world is ruled right now by the power of darkness. It is ruled by evil powers. But one day that will all change and Jesus Christ will reign over this earth! I look forward to that day. How about you?

When Jesus Christ came to this earth the first time He came as a Babe in a manger, but when He returns again it will be as Victor and Judge. And all those that do not know Him will be destroyed.

When that day happens we that know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior we will join in this chorus of Praise shouting, ““We give thanks to you, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who always was, for now you have assumed your great power and have begun to reign.

Application

Come, Lord Jesus Come!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I look forward to the return of Christ! I look forward to a world ruled by good and not evil. I look forward to a world that has become the Kingdom of Christ, Who will reign forever and ever.”

My Holiness Among My People

Ezekiel 28

"I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people."

²⁵ “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people. ²⁶ They will live safely in Israel and build homes and plant vineyards. And when I punish the neighboring nations that treated them with contempt, they will know that I am the Lord their God.”

Observation

I thought of Matthew 5:16 when I read this passage this morning. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify Your Father, which is in Heaven. The nation of Israel had a special purpose and that was to be a light to the Gentiles.

If you are a Christian then God saved You for a purpose. It wasn’t just to give you eternal life. He saved you and He saved me so that we could be a light to the nations. He has called us to be the light in our neighborhood, in our workplace, and a light to our extended family.

They need to see Jesus in us.

As I read these chapters in Ezekiel today I am reminded that nations rise and nations fall because they are a part of God’s great plan. Nothing happens in the world without God allowing it or God causing it to happens - nothing. Just think about that for a moment! Nothing surprises Him! He is never caught off guard or caught by surprise at anything that happens on this earth!

Israel didn’t do a real great job of being a light to the nations around her. How are we doing?

Application

I will call some people today that are walking in darkness that need God’s light.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me be a light that draws people to You today. Don’t let me live in darkness. Keep me away from stupid sins. It is my desire to bring You glory and honor today. Help me to reflect Your Glory to those around me.

¹¹ Their king is the angel from the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon—the Destroyer.

Observation

As I read Ezekiel and Revelation this morning I am reminded just how evil this world is! The ruler of this world is Satan. At the moment he is alive and doing very well but his days are numbered. 

When I read in the newspapers, or watch the news on television it is filled with terrible evil acts either done by individuals, nations or soldiers. Terrible acts like poisoning and killing their own children with nerve gas. Yes, the Destroyer is alive and well on planet earth. 

If I didn’t know how it was all going to end, all of this evil could cause me to be depressed and maybe even afraid, but I have read the end of the Story. In fact I am only a few chapters away from reading about what happens to this Destroyer. His days are numbered and so are the days of those who do evil. 

Revelation 20

¹⁰ Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
 
¹¹ And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. ¹² I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.

Application

I will continue to share the Good News with people today and I will rejoice today knowing that the victory is already ours.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, It is finished! You are the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty You will give freely from the springs of the water of life. All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and You will be their God, and they will be Your children. ¹ Praise the Lord!
I will thank the Lord with all my heart
    as I meet with his godly people.

Observation

Do you look forward to the next time you see people at church or at your life group? I do! I love Sunday mornings at Christ Fellowship! I love seeing everyone and being with them whenever we get together. We are the body of Christ!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I give thanks to You and I look forward to meeting soon with your godly people. Thank You for our church family. Help me to keep up with those that You have put under my responsibility. Put those on my heart that You want me to contact. I pray for Brian as he prepares the Wednesday night dinners. I pray that the fellowship and Bible Study on Wednesdays will help our church grow spiritually. I give you Praise for all that You are doing in the life of our church.

… I Saw A Vast Crowd, Too Great To Count,

From Every Nation And Tribe And People And Language, 

Standing In Front Of The Throne And Before The Lamb.

Scripture

Revelation 7

⁹ After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. ¹⁰ And they were shouting with a great roar,

“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
    and from the Lamb!”

¹¹ And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God. ¹² They sang,

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
    and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
    forever and ever! Amen.”

Observation

Every morning I pray for an unreached people group before I read my Bible. I also pray everyday for my nephew Jonathan Richert who has been in a coma since December 2007. 

The reason that I can remember to pray for them is because every morning when I get ready to read my Bible and I open up the link to my blog they are the first thing I see everyday. Today I prayed for the Kui, Kuay, Suei of Thailand. Actually this people group live in 3 different countries: 1. Thailand 2. Laos 3. Cambodia. I don’t know who they are. I have never been to Thailand, Laos, or Cambodia, but one day there will be some of the Kui, Kuay, Suei in Heaven. I prayed for them this morning and I asked God to send laborers to reach them for His kingdom. 

One day in Heaven all these unreached people that have been saved because we prayed for them will surround us.

But As For Me, I Am Poor And Needy;

Please Hurry To My Aid, O God.

You Are My Helper And My Savior; O LORD, Do Not Delay.

Psalm 70

⁴ But may all who search for you
    be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
    repeatedly shout, “God is great!”

⁵ But as for me, I am poor and needy;
    please hurry to my aid, O God.
You are my helper and my savior;
    O Lord, do not delay.

Observation

When you and I think of King David we probably only think of him as someone who killed the giant or someone that wrote most of the Psalms. We don’t think about how much of David’s life was spent hiding and running from his enemies. Most of his life was spent under the constant threat of being killed by King Saul and his other enemies.

In verse 5 we see the secret of David’s life and why he was so successful. We can see why he was one of God’s favorites.

I think it was Pastor Bruce who said that God loves everybody, but God does have His favorites. God loves every one in this world. But those of us who come to Him in humility and brokenness, we are His favorites! He delights in us. We are the apple of His eye.

Take time right now to humble yourself before God. It is the way I plan to start this day.
