It Is Finished! I Am The Alpha And The Omega – The Beginning And The End.

It Is Finished!
I Am The Alpha And The Omega –
The Beginning And The End.
Scripture
Revelation 21
3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.
4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

5 And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End.
Observation
This past year on January 1st I started reading in the first book of the Bible, Genesis and today on December 31st I finished the last book of the Bible, the book of Revelation!
Every event, every story, every character found in God’s Word has been put there by God to show us that we can trust Him. He is faithful! He will keep His promises!
Have you ever read the Bible through in a year?
Since 2006 I have been reading the Bible through every year and taking the time to write about something that God showed me that day from His Word.
If you look on my blog you can see that I wasn’t perfect when it came to writing something down everyday. But this habit has helped me have the desire to get up every morning and dive into God’s word!
I am going to do the same thing next year and the next year and every year until the day I die.
You can look and see where I go to read every day. I use my computer to read my Bible daily reading and I use a blog to write down my thoughts.
It is 2 links that are book marked in my favorites and all it takes is one click and I am there ready to read.
You can do it too! All you have to do is make the commitment and ask God to help you keep it.
If you do make the commitment to read the Bible through in 2018 why don’t you let me know and I will commit to praying for you!
Application

I will read the Bible through again in 2018. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. It has been a great year digging into all of Your Promises. You have showed me this year that You love to answer our prayers. You have showed me that You love to keep Your promises. Thank You for being so good to my family and me this year! Thank You for blessing our church in unbelievable ways this past year. I pray for our lead team. Bless them. Help them be men and women of Your Word. Help them to be strong! Keep them from sin. Protect them from the Evil One.
He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”
 Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

There Are Three Things That Amaze Me -- No, Four Things That I Don't Understand:

There Are Three Things
That Amaze Me --
No, Four Things That I Don't Understand:
Scripture
Proverbs 30
18 There are three things that amaze me—
no, four things that I don’t understand:
19 how an eagle glides through the sky,
how a snake slithers on a rock,
how a ship navigates the ocean,
how a man loves a woman.
20 An adulterous woman consumes a man,
then wipes her mouth and says, “What’s wrong with that?”
Observation
I started dating Kathy in the fall way back in 1968 during our senior high of high school. I think it was after the second or third date that I knew that I wanted to be with her forever. I fell madly in love with her after or maybe even during our first date!
I agree with the writer of Proverbs that love between a man and a woman is amazing!

Kathy describes those early days of our relationship a little bit differently, she says, “We were madly in lust with each other!”

We were married one year and one month after we started dating … at the young age of 18.

Her charm and her beauty and whatever she saw in me, attracted us together but we quickly learned in our first year of marriage that those things were not enough to keep our marriage and our love for each other going in the right direction.

At 19 years old, one year after we got married, Kathy and I fell in love with Jesus Christ and we began to put Him first in our lives and first in our marriage. Jesus Christ became the most important Person in our lives and not each other.

It was then and only then that I truly learned how to love Kathy the way God intended for a man to love a woman. A love for her that is so amazing.

When I look at her today I still have those feelings; those feelings just like I had when I began dating her in the fall of 1968. When she walks into the room everything still changes!

She is the love of my life. She is more amazing now than she was even then.

We watch so many couples struggling in their relationship with each other. When they open up and give us a chance to talk with them we share with them the reason why our marriage is what it is today.

Here is what we share:

Jesus Christ must have first place in your life.  Your spouse or significant other must have second place in your life and everything and everyone else must come after that. Then and only then will your love for each other be truly “amazing”.

Application
I will enjoy my wife today and I will let her know how much I love her.
Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us the opportunity to have a personal relationship with You. I love Kathy more today than I ever have. She is so amazing. She is the greatest gift that You have ever given me next to my relationship with You. Thank You for giving me the ability to love her like Christ loves the church and like Christ loves me. Don’t let me be selfish. Give me the ability to love her and love others with Your unselfish love. I pray for my children that they may know how to love others in this same way. Help them to put You first and others second. Help them grow in their relationship with You and in their relationship with others. Give them what Kathy and I have experienced. Don’t let them miss the “amazing”.

When People Do Not Accept Divine Guidance, They Run Wild.

When People
Do Not Accept Divine Guidance,
They Run Wild.
Scripture
Proverbs 29
18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.
But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
Observation

You and I are capable of committing any sin! We are capable of doing some horrendous, horrible things!

Maybe your response to what I just said is, “Oh, I could never do that … or I would never do that!”

The truth is that when we neglect our relationship with God we put ourselves in a very dangerous place.

Yes, you and I are capable of murder, rape, adultery, fraud, addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography and a zillion other sins when we do not accept His Divine guidance.
Maybe you have recently said, “I can't believe that he did that! I can't believe that she did that!”

My friend, all it takes for us to be where are wayward friend is … is for us to refuse to accept the Divine guidance that God provides for us in His Word.

The Bible is not a book of suggestions!

Whoever obeys the Word of God is full of joy!

1 Corinthians 10
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. 13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
James 5
19 My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, 20 you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.
Application
I know that if I choose not to accept Divine guidance I am in for trouble. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, keep me away from stupid sins. Guide me with Your Word. I know that Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path. Help me to hide your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I pray for those who have decided to not accept Your Divine guidance and who are now living in sin. Help them to repent and turn back to You. Bring joy back into their lives!

People Who Conceal Their Sins Will Not Prosper

People
Who Conceal Their Sins
Will Not Prosper
Scripture
Proverbs 28
13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper,
but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.
Observation

My God says if we conceal our sins we will not prosper!

But God provides us a solution to our sin problem. Here it is: confess and turn from them!

We need to tell God and tell someone else so we can receive mercy, so we can get help. We must admit that we have a problem.

Don't let pride gets in the way!

Several years ago I received a phone call from a very close friend of mine.

This friend, who was at that time living in an adulterous relationship with a younger co-worker called to tell me, “Eddy, I have realized that if I don't get things right with my wife, then my relationship with my children, my relationship with my friends, and my relationship with my God will never be the same.

So I am calling her up and if she will take me back I am going back and I am going to get things right with her.

Today God is using my friend and his wife to help other couples get their marriages back on track.

Their story is one of the greatest miracles I have ever witnessed.

Confess your sins and turn from them, and you will receive mercy.
Application
I will never give up on someone who is struggling with a sin problem. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, all of us have hurts, hang-ups, and habits. We need to confess them to You and we need to tell someone else. We need to get help. I pray for those struggling with addictions, those who have yielded themselves to sexual immorality, and to any other hurts, hang-ups and habits that they need to stop. Help them Lord to walk in victory by humbling themselves and confessing and turning from those sins and turning back to You.

Hear Me As I Pray, O Lord. Be Merciful And Answer Me!

Hear Me As I Pray, O Lord.
Be Merciful
And Answer Me!
Scripture
Psalm 27
7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
    Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Revelation 3:20
Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me.

Observation

Revelation 3:20 and Psalm 27:7-8, both of these passages reveal to me my Heavenly Father's heart and how He feels about me.
He wants and desires an intimate relationship with me and He wants that kind of a relationship with you too.
He is pursuing us.
He knocking on the door of our hearts. Can you hear Him?
1 Peter 3:7
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
1 Peter 3:12
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Application
Intimacy with my Heavenly Father is only possible when my behavior matches my beliefs. I must be a man of integrity, a man after God's own heart.
How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, this morning my heart has heard You say, “Come and talk with me.”And my heart responded, “Lord, I am coming.” Help me to stay away from stupid sins, sins that mess up my relationship with You, that mess up my relationship with Kathy, and with all of the other people that I love. Help me to be a man of integrity. Give me the strength to live my life in a way that matches what I believe.

Yes, The Lord Has Done Amazing Things For Us! What Joy!

Yes, The Lord Has Done Amazing
Things For Us!
What Joy!
Scripture
Psalm 126
3 Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us!
What joy!
Observation

2017 is almost history and 2018 is right around the corner!
Are you going through a difficult time right now and facing lots of uncertainty in 2018? If just thinking about it is frightening for you, then here is what I suggest we do (yes, this is what I plan to do).
It is pretty simple … nothing earth shattering … here it is:
Let’s look back over our lives and think about all of the amazing things that God has done for us!
He was faithful to take care of us then and He will take care of us now and He will most certainly take care of us tomorrow!
It is my plan for facing 2018 and I think it is a good one for you too!
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
2 Samuel 22:20
He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.
Psalm 37:23
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
Application

I will trust the Lord to take care of my family and me in 2018. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, as I think about the New Year that is approaching help me to do it with faith. Help me not to be afraid. I know that You delight in me. I know that Your plans for me are to prosper me and not to harm me. Help me not to do stupid sins that will bring grief and harm to my family and me. Help me to live a pure life. Help me to live by faith trusting every Word and every Promise that You have given me to live by. Help me to be bold and courageous.
And I pray for anyone that may be reading this blog. Help them to trust You with what is coming in 2018. Help them to walk by faith!

The Word Of Life Appeared Before Our Eyes; We Saw It Happen!

The Word Of Life
Appeared Before Our Eyes;
We Saw It Happen!
Scripture
1 John 1

1-2 From the very first day, we were there, taking it all in—we heard it with our own ears, saw it with our own eyes, verified it with our own hands. The Word of Life appeared right before our eyes; we saw it happen! And now we're telling you in most sober prose that what we witnessed was, incredibly, this: The infinite Life of God himself took shape before us.
Observation
This is the Christmas story from John’s point of view!
This is from the Message translation of the Bible and I like how it describes the entry into this world of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

How has your Christmas been this year?
How close are you to the Christ child of Christmas?
Is there unconfessed sin in your life that keeps Christmas from being what it could be?
Why don’t you just talk to the Lord about the things that are not right in your life and turn everything over to Him?
Application
I am going to enjoy this day by enjoying the people God brings into my life today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Jesus!

My Lord And My God!

My Lord
And
My God!
Don’t ever let me lose the wonder and awe of Christmas!
Scripture
John 20
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.
.Observation
Are you a believer? This Christmas Eve will you acknowledge that Jesus is both Lord and God? Is He your Savior?
Have you taken time to worship Him during this Christmas season? Today there will be Christmas Eve worship services all over the city of Tampa.
Will you take time to worship the Christ of Christmas?
......................
In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God.
So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. John 1:1,14
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
8 That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, 10 but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. 11 The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”
Application
I will celebrate my Savior's birth at Christ Fellowship Church this morning. Will you take the time today to worship the Christ of Christmas?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, don’t ever let me lose the wonder and awe of Christmas.

Ask, Using My Name, And You Will Receive

Ask,
Using My Name,
And You Will Receive
Scripture
John 16:24
24 You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.
Observation

It really does depend on who you know.

Ever see people walking around on the sidelines of a professional football game, getting to be right there with the players, while the rest of us have to watch the game from a stadium seat or in my case on television?

It really does matter who you know.

You and I, if we are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, get direct access with our Heavenly Father because we know Jesus as our Lord and as our Savior.

My question to you is, “Do you know Him”?

Ephesians 3
12 Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.
Hebrews 10:19
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.
Application

I will go to my Heavenly Father this morning in prayer with confidence because of my relationship with Jesus Christ. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, as I come to You right now in prayer I come boldly. I know that You hear me. I know that You will answer me. The only reason that I am able to have access to You at all is because of what Jesus did for me. He death on the cross took away the separation that my sin caused and now I can come boldly to Your throne. Hear my prayers Lord and answer them. So many people in my life need Your help.

Love Each Other. Just As I Have Loved You, You Should Love Each Other.

Love Each Other.
Just As I Have Loved You,
You Should Love Each Other.
Scripture
John 13
34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Observation

Loving your wife, loving your husband, loving your children, loving your grandchildren, loving your brothers and loving your sisters, none of those are options for us as followers of Jesus Christ.

Jesus commands us to love!

Isn't it interesting that we have to be commanded by God to love people!
Jesus was only a few hours away from being nailed to a cross and yet He wanted to drive home this most important lesson before spikes were driven into His hands and into His feet and a sword was thrust into His side.

Proof of how much I love Jesus Christ is shown by how much I love Kathy Williams, my family, and all the other people that God has brought into my life!

Marriage and all relationships take a lot of work.

We are commanded to love the people that God has brought into our lives with God's love - “Agape love”.

This love is not an emotion. God's love is a commitment. It is unconditional!

In marriage “I love you” really means:
I promise to be there for you all of my days.” It is a promise that says, “I will be there when you lose your job, your health, your parents, your looks, your confidence, your friends. It is a promise that tells your partner, I’ll build you up; I will overlook your weaknesses; I’ll forgive your mistakes; I’ll put your needs above my own; I’ll stick by you when the going gets tough.”

1 Corinthians 13
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud [5] or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. [6] It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. [7] Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Application
I will practice loving people as spelled out in John 13:34-35 and 1 Corinthians 13. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, during my 48 years of marriage, You know better than anyone else that the roughest times between me and Kathy were because of my selfishness. And our best times have been when we have loved each other selflessly! As long as I put Kathy's needs above my own things are good. So help me to always keep You first. Help me to keep Kathy always second in my life. Help me to remember to keep Eddy number #3! I want to finish well.

My Help Comes From The Lord, Who Made Heaven And Earth!

My Help Comes
From The Lord,
Who Made Heaven And Earth!
Scripture
Psalm 121
1 I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!
Observation

When you and I try to get help from any other place other than the Lord it can get us into serious trouble.

Trying to escape our problems at home by having an affair with someone at work is a sure way to crash and burn. The grass, my friend, is not greener on the other side of the fence.

Fertilize your own pasture!

And trying to ease our pain by using drugs and alcohol only multiplies our misery. There is only one place for you and I to get help.

My help and your help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

Hebrews 13:4
Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery.
Leviticus 20
10 If a man commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death.
14 You must not commit adultery.
Proverbs 6:32
But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys himself.
Application
I will not give up on people who are trying to get help in all of the wrong places. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, my help doesn't come from any other place. My help comes from You. You are enough. I pray for those who are trying to solve their problems by jumping fences and committing adultery. I pray for those who are using drugs and alcohol to get a momentary escape from pain only to be drawn deeper and deeper into addiction. Help them Lord. Only You can change the direction of the ones who I am praying for … only You.

May He Grant Your Heart's Desires And Make All Your Plans Succeed. May The Lord Answer All Your Prayers.

May He Grant Your Heart's Desires
And Make All Your Plans Succeed.
May The Lord Answer All Your Prayers.
Scripture
Psalm 20
4 May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.
Observation

I don't know about you but I have some really really big prayer requests right now. So if you prayed Psalm 20:4-5 for me today that would be greatly appreciated.

It is the prayer that I am going to be praying for everyone that reads my blog today.

Right now, some people in my world are acting out. They are acting like the Bible is simply a book of suggestions and that they have decided to ignore what it says about how we are to live life as followers of Christ.

They are ignoring what the Bible says about their marriage, about committing adultery, about sexual immorality, and about substance abuse (drugs and alcohol).

Even though they don't seem to care about the consequences of what is going to happen to them and to their families, I do.

I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that you have the same thing going on in your family, extended family and with your friends.

So lets pray big prayers for them!
Application
I will pray big and I will never give up! How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I can't fix the people in my life that have made the decision to yield to sin. I can see where they are headed. I can see all the pain and suffering that is in their future. I need Your help so that they can be spared and their families can be spared the consequences of their sin. I know and realize that I am a sinner just like they are and that I am also capable of doing just what they are doing. Help them escape the sin. Give them the power and the strength to have victory over the sin and help them to flee. Bring people into their lives that will steer them back in Your direction and away from sin and destruction. I am praying big because I serve a Big God. Nothing is too for You. Nothing!
And I pray for my daughter Debby today on her birthday! Bless her Lord. Help her to live her life in a way that pleases you. Grant her, her heart's desires, help her plans succeed, and answer all of her prayers!

Now You Are Well So Stop Sinning Or Something Even Worse May Happen To You.

Now You Are Well
So Stop Sinning
Or Something Even Worse May Happen To You.
Scripture
John 5
3 Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. 5 One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?”
7 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.”
8 Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
9 Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, 10 so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!”
11 But he replied, “The man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’”
12 “Who said such a thing as that?” they demanded.
13 The man didn’t know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. 14 But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.”
Observation

After lying crippled and sick for 38 years by the pool of Bethesda, hoping to one day get well this man was healed by Jesus.
Evidently his 38 years of sickness and misery, his not being able to even walk was all caused by sin.
After Jesus healed this crippled man, Jesus said to him, “now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you”.
Worse than the previous 38 years!
This story is a reminder to me that my sin and your sin always has consequences. And yes, unless we stop sinning, something even worse may happen to us!
There is an umbrella of God's protection and blessing that is over us when we live godly lives. Once we step out from under that umbrella of God's protection and begin to practice sin that is when you and I will reap the consequences of our sin.
And yes, it can and usually does get a lot worse!
Psalm 32
Oh, what joy for those
    whose disobedience is forgiven,
whose sin is put out of sight!

2 Yes, what joy for those
whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,[
b]
whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

3 When I refused to confess my sin,
    my body wasted away,
and I groaned all day long.

4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me.
My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude
5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you
and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.”
And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
6 Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time,
that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.

7 For you are my hiding place;
    you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory.
Application
I will confess my sins as I commit them and I will try to help those who have fallen and who are now living in sin. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am so broken over the direction and the decisions that some men, some who are my friends and some who are part of family have taken in recent days. I know from Your Word that they are on very dangerous ground. I pray for them. I pray that they stop sinning before something worse happens to them. Do whatever it takes to turn their lives around. I pray for those who have been hurt by their sin. Give those loved ones the strength not to give up. Help them to be ready to accept these men back when they turn their lives around and when these men start walking with You again. You are a Mighty God. Nothing is too hard for you!
