If Anyone Does Not Love The Lord, That Person Is Cursed. Our Lord, Come!

If Anyone Does Not Love The Lord,
That Person Is Cursed.
Our Lord, Come!
Scripture
1 Corinthians 16
22 If anyone does not love the Lord, that person is cursed. Our Lord, come!
Observation

What Dr. Waylon B. Moore told our men's small group this past Wednesday is still stuck in my head. He said, Every person that has ever been born not a single one of them will ever die … once you are born you never die, you will live forever … forever either in Heaven or Hell.”
What we have walking all around us are people that are either cursed or blessed. We have spiritually dead people walking around us or people who are spiritually alive; alive because they have placed their trust and faith in Jesus Christ.

Those that are without Christ are cursed to an Eternity in Hell, separated from all of their loved ones that have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
I remember sharing the Gospel with a young military man named Greg and he told me that he was going to go to Hell when he died.
I said to him, “Greg, don't you realize that you will be forever separated from your wife Sheila and your son Greg Jr.” (Sheila was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and his son Greg Jr was 5 years old.)
I guess he had not seriously ever thought about this before. I went back to talk to Greg the next week and he told me this story. He said, “After you talked to me and I realized that if I died that I would be separated forever from Sheila and little Greg. I was scared. I couldn't sleep for several nights. I kept thinking about what you said about being forever separated from Sheila and Greg. Finally I dropped to my knees and I prayed and I asked Jesus Christ to save me.” … The last I heard from Greg and Sheila they were serving the Lord as pastor in a church in our area. God is good!
Spiritually dead or spiritually alive, separated or together for Eternity… the choice is yours! Cursed or blessed?
Application
I will always try to help people see their need for Jesus. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that there are many other men like Greg around me who need a relationship with Jesus. Point me in their direction. Give me the right words to share with them. Save them from an Eternity separated from You and from being Eternally separated from all of their loved ones. Open up their eyes so that they can see their spiritual condition. Soften their hearts so that they can believe.

Christ Died For Our Sins According To The Scriptures, He Was Buried, He Was Raised On The Third Day According To The Scriptures

Christ Died For Our Sins According To The Scriptures,
He Was Buried,
He Was Raised On The Third Day According To The Scriptures
Scripture
1 Corinthians 15
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
John 19
18 There they nailed him to the cross. Two others were crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them.19 And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
Romans 8
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Observation
The God's message of the Bible is wrapped up in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 … it is the Gospel in a nutshell! Jesus died for me! And He died for you! He died to pay the penalty for our sins! Then on the third day – He arose! He is alive!
The very same Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you … if … you have surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior! Have you placed your faith and your trust in Jesus Christ?
Dr. Waylon B. Moore shared this thought with our men's group this past Wednesday evening, “Think about this he said, “Every person that has ever been born not a single one of them will ever die … once you are born you never die, you will live forever … forever either in Heaven or Hell.”
Where will you spend eternity?
Application
I will continue to point people to Jesus because I realize that their eternal destiny hangs in the balance. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to see people with Your eyes. Help me to see them as sheep without a shepherd. Burden me with what burdens You. I pray that during this Easter season many will put their trust and faith in Jesus Christ. Open up their spiritual hearts. Give them understanding of the truth of the Gospel. Help them to see their need for a Savior.

For God Is Not A God Of Disorder But Of Peace

For God
Is Not A God Of Disorder
But Of Peace
Scripture
1 Corinthians 14
33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace, as in all the meetings of God’s holy people.
Observation
1 Corinthians 13 is sandwiched in between 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Corinthians 14 for a good reason! Both 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Corinthians 14 talk about spiritual gifts and how important it is to use them to correctly. You and I should use our spiritual gift(s) in a way that builds up the body of Christ. There is a tendency or at least a constant danger of misusing our spiritual gift(s) to draw attention to ourselves. So whether we preach or sing or teach or greet or serve in any way lets do it with humility and with a servant heart! The way we act while we are in church and even the way we dress for church should not be done to draw attention to ourselves. “Let love be your highest goal!”
Application
I serve an Audience of One. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, it seems that every good and perfect gift that You give us we have a way of messing it up. It is so easy to serve in a way that brings attention to me and not to You. Help me to serve people with a pure heart. Help me to serve in the right way pleasing You and not worrying about drawing attention to myself. You are to be glorified through my life. Help people see more of Jesus in me and less of me.

No Matter What I Say, What I Believe, And What I Do, I'm Bankrupt Without Love.

No Matter What I Say,
What I Believe, And What I Do,
I'm Bankrupt Without Love.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 13
3-7 … So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.
Observation
I love this chapter of the Bible! I thought I would share with you the MESSAGE paraphrase this morning. This is what jumped out at me as I read 1 Corinthians 13! ...
Love cares more for others than for self. Love isn't always “me first”. Love always looks for the best. Love puts up with anything!”
If you want to know how to keep your marriage vibrant … here it is … put into practice everyday the love that is described in I Corinthians 13!
You might say to me, “Well Eddy it takes two people to make a great marriage!” And that is very true, but I say practice loving your spouse with 1 Corinthians 13 kind of love and watch what happens!
Look out!
Application
I will love Kathy with the kind of love described in 1 Corinthians 13 love!
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I fall short so often in my role as a good husband. I don't treat Kathy 100 % of the time with the love that You describe in 1 Corinthians 13. Help me to be a better husband. I know and You know that I can do better. I pray for those who are having a rough time right now in their marriage. Show them how to love their spouse with the Agape love that is described in 1 Corinthians 13.

Now You Are The Body Of Christ, And Each One Of You Is A Part Of It.

Now You Are The Body Of Christ,
And
Each One Of You Is A Part Of It.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 12
27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
Observation
Commitment to each other … to the body of Church … the church you attend needs committed followers of Christ.
The Apostle Paul talks about the church, the body of Christ and uses our own bodies as an example. It is easy to see how important every part of our physical body is, just get a paper cut on your thumb (like I have right now) or have one tooth begin to ache and just see how it affects your whole body!
But we don't seem to get it when it comes to church. I don't just get mad at my big toe because I stubbed it and go and cut it off! No, I need that big toe!
Being part of a local church is just like that … we need each other!
Get connected and participate in a small group at your church … if you are not part of a small group then you are like a hand or a foot or some other part of your body that is not connected to the rest of you!
So and so has left their spouse … were they active participants in a small group? So and so has stopped coming to church … were they connected and committed members of a small group? The answer is almost always … no they were not!
Get connected!
Application
I will be an active participant of a small group and I will let the group hold me accountable. How about you? Do you have a small group that holds you accountable for your spiritual growth?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, it breaks my heart when I hear that someone has decided to pull away from attending our church. I realize that in some way I have failed them. Help me to do my job better in getting people connected in small groups where they can feel the importance of using his or her spiritual gifts to help the rest of the body to grow. I pray for our small group leaders. Help them to shepherd their groups well. I pray for more people to accept the call to lead a small group so that more and more of our people can be better connected in the body of Christ.

Follow My Example As I Follow The Example Of Christ.

Follow My Example
As I
Follow The Example Of Christ.
Scripture
I Corinthians 11
1 Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Observation

What kind of example are you and I setting for those around us? Are we actually saying, “Do what I say, but son or daughter please don't do what I am doing.”

Are there contradictions in what we say we believe and how we are living our lives?

I have up on my refrigerator this saying, “Practicing integrity means that your behavior must match your beliefs.”

As a follower of Jesus Christ it is so important for me to strive to be an example to my children, my grandchildren, and all of those around me.

It is true that all of us are sinners. We are all broken, but we should strive to live our lives as examples that people can follow.

How are we doing with that?
Application
I will watch out for stupid sins that would mess up my life and that would cause me to be a bad example for people to follow. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be able to say as the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 11, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” Show me anything that I am doing that makes You sad. Don't let me yield to temptation today. Give me the strength to live today in a way that pleases You. I pray for any one reading this blog today, but especially for any men. Help them to set the example of to live the Christian life for those within their circle of influence. Help these men to say no to sin.

So Whether You Eat Or Drink Or Whatever You Do, Do It All For The Glory Of God.

So Whether
You Eat Or Drink Or Whatever You Do,
Do It All For The Glory Of God.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 10
31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Observation
Should I do this or should I do that? Here is the answer: Is what I am getting ready to do or the thing that I am already doing, does it or will it bring glory to God? You say, “Well the Bible doesn't say its wrong” … does it bring glory to God?
I am reminded as I read this passage that I need to live my life for an Audience of One. If I can please the Lord today by the way I live then I have done good.
Lets turn from any thing that we are doing that doesn't make God smile and lets put Him and His kingdom first! Lets surrender our lives to Him 100% holding nothing back!
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Application
I will live out today striving to please the Lord. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, it would be easier to please You if I wasn't so selfish. Help me think about You and Your kingdom more today and think less about me, myself, and I. I am my biggest problem. I can't blame my sin on anyone else. Help me to walk close to You today. Show me what to do. Guide my steps. Guard my heart. Bless anyone that may read this blog today. Give them the strength to live in a way that brings You glory!

Do You Not Know That In A Race All The Runners Run, But Only One Gets The Prize? Run In Such A Way As To Get The Prize.

Do You Not Know That In A Race All The Runners Run,
But Only One Gets The Prize?
Run In Such A Way As To Get The Prize.
Scripture
1 Corinthians 9
24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.
27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Observation
The Apostle Paul is comparing the Christian life to running a race!
Our oldest daughter Jenny has become an avid runner. This year she ran her first Marathon, but almost every week she is running in some kind of competition. Yesterday she placed second in a 5k run! We are very proud of her!
Spiritually we need to apply the same strict training and discipline that a runner must maintain to our daily Christian life. Runners compete to get a medal or a ribbon or at least for the enjoyment of finishing the race, but as Christians we run the Christian race to get a crown that will last forever!
How are you doing in the Christian Marathon? Haven't gotten serious yet?
It is never too late to start … I think my daughter Jenny started running less than 2 years ago.
There is a church close to your house that would love for you to get serious about the Christian Race!
Application
I am running in the Christian Race and my prize that will last forever! How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to finish the race well. Don't let me get sidetracked by sin. I want to receive a crown that will last forever! I pray for anyone that may be reading this blog today. Help them to get serious about running the Christian Race. I pray that You will help them to surrender their lives totally to the Lord Jesus Christ and help them to run to win a crown!

Anyone Who Claims To Know All The Answers Doesn't Really Know Very Much

Anyone Who Claims
To Know All The Answers
Doesn't Really Know Very Much
Scripture
1 Corinthians 8
1 Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church. 2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much. 3 But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes.
Observation
Being right all the time is not the most important thing … it is love that strengthens the church! I don't know about you but the older I get the more I realize how much I don't know.

Even if you are right, there are times at least if you are smart, that you don't need to be right. Sometimes your relationship with the person who you are talking to (like your spouse for instance) is way more important than being right. Let it go.
The Apostle Paul's point in chapter 8 of 1 Corinthians is this, “Loving and not offending a weaker brother is more important than being right.”
The argument was over eating meat that had been sacrificed to an idol. Paul said that he knew that meat was just meat and an idol wasn't anything, but if his eating that meat offended someone then he would never eat meat again.
Why … because the person, even though they were wrong, was way more important than food! It is love that strengthens the church.
Who needs to be encouraged and strengthened today? Maybe your spouse?
Application
I will concentrate on encouraging people and not on always being right. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, the Apostle Paul's word to the church at Corinth is a good word for me today. Help me to focus on the person and not on winning an argument or always having to be right. Show me who I can encourage and who I can build up in the faith. Don't let me have a critical spirit. I pray for those recovering from surgery. Heal them Lord. I pray for those who are sick and who are dealing with pain. Ease their pain Lord. You are an awesome God. Nothing is too hard for You.
I pray for my brother Rick today on his birthday. Bless him Lord. May Your face shine brightly on him today with Your favor. Encourage him today on this very special day! Thank You for letting me be both his brother in Christ and his brother in the flesh!

And A Husband Must Not Divorce His Wife

And A Husband
Must Not
Divorce His Wife
Scripture
1 Corinthians 7
10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

Observation

There is a word that every married couple must take out of their vocabulary.
DIVORCE”
This is what Dr. Waylon B. Moore told Kathy and I over 48 years ago. It was some of the best advice we have been given. I remember him saying, “Don't threaten each other with that word, and don't make threats to leave your partner.”
Kathy and I have had our rough moments just like any other couple has but we have never used the “D” word against each other.
I know that even writing about divorce may cause pain and sorrow to those of you who have gone through it, but maybe talking about it today might help someone else avoid what you have gone through.
Satan does not want us to be happily married. He will bring temptation our way to try to mess up our marriage. Don't kid yourself. He will.
Satan wants your children to grow up without the influence of a Mom and Dad madly in love with each other.
If you run out of love for your spouse you don't divorce them … do you get rid of your car because it has run out of gas? No, you fill up the gas tank and keep driving the car. When you run out of love for your mate you should do the same thing … fill up your love tank and stay married.
Having God's love for my spouse is always a choice. It is not a feeling!
The Apostle Paul says, “And a husband must not divorce his wife.”
...Period …
Lets take the “D” word out of our vocabulary!
Application
I will work with couples to help them work through rough spots in their marriage so they can experience a great marriage. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know how I hurt for those going through divorce and for others who are having a difficult time in their marriage. Help them Lord. Show them that divorce is not the answer. I know that You hate divorce. Bring godly people into the lives of those who are struggling with temptation to bring them back to a close relationship with You and back to a close relationship with their mate. Thank You for all the godly people that You placed in our lives who helped us have a strong marriage. I know that You can do the same thing for those who I am praying for and who are on my heart right now.

The Sun Stopped In The Middle Of The Day And Delayed Going Down About A Full Day

The Sun Stopped In The Middle Of The Day
And Delayed Going Down
About A Full Day
Scripture
Joshua 10
12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.
14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!
Observation
The God I serve can do anything He wants.
He can make the sun and the moon stand still … which He spoke into creation in the first place! Nothing is too hard for Him. Nothing!
You know when I think about serving a God that can part the Red Sea so that His children can walk across in safety on dry land, stop the Jordan river so they can walk across on dry land, miraculously provide food for them for 40 years and clothes and sandals that never wore out (Deut. 29:5), there is no doubt in my mind that my God can and will take care of me!
He can take care of you too. Trust Him!
Application
I will put my faith and my trust totally in the One who created me. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I have personally experienced Your mighty miraculous power in my life. I will never forget what You did when You brought me from death back to life. I serve a mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You. I pray today for those going through difficult circumstances. Show them Your mighty power. I pray for healing for those who are sick. I pray for those struggling financially. And I pray for those who need relationships restored. Nothing is too hard for You. Thank You for showing me that I can call on You and You hear me and You will answer my requests!

You Must Not Associate With Anyone Who Claims To Be A Brother Or Sister But Is Sexually Immoral Or Greedy, An Idolater Or Slanderer, A Drunkard, Or Swindler

You Must Not Associate With Anyone Who Claims
To Be A Brother Or Sister But Is Sexually Immoral
Or Greedy, An Idolater Or Slanderer, A Drunkard, Or Swindler
Scripture
1 Corinthians 5
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—

10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.

11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister  but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”
Observation
My behavior matters if I am a follower of Christ … the Apostle Paul draws a clear distinction between the people of the world and the followers of Jesus Christ.
Our culture today is influencing us in the church to not address sexual immorality when it happens within the body of Christ. But I think it must be addressed.
I believe that it is our responsibility to warn brothers and sisters in Christ when they ignore the guardrails and boundaries that God has established in His Word about our sexuality and our behavior.
The Apostle Paul makes it clear that he is not talking about the people of the world – Paul says What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside.”
How I live my life matters to God and so does yours!
Application
How I live my life matters to God! I need to maintain the guardrails/boundaries in my life to make sure that the way I live pleases my God. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, no matter how someone wants to try to justify adultery, fornication, and any other kind of sexual immorality, Your Word clearly tells me and them that it is wrong.
I pray for those close to me who seem to think that You are going to look the other way as they continue in sexual immorality. I pray that You rescue them from where they are at. And as I read this passage I am reminded that I too could commit any of the sins that You mention in 1 Corinthians 5:9-10.
Help me to walk close to You. Don't let me yield and do those stupid sins that mess up my fellowship with You. Rescue those caught in sexual sins … before it causes more harm to them and more harm to those who love them.

For The Kingdom O f God Is Not Just A Lot Of Talk; It Is Living By God's Power.

For The Kingdom Of God
Is Not Just A Lot Of Talk;
It Is Living By God's Power.
Scripture
I Corinthians 4
20 For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power.
Observation
I need to walk the talk. I need to boldly live out the Christian life, living every day by God's power.
Today is Monday; I have the entire week to make an impact on my world for Christ!
I will ask God to use me in the lives of those who will cross my paths.
Every Monday morning is a fresh start for me … a new and exciting week!
I will take advantage of it! Can I suggest that you do the same!
Application
I will ask the Lord to shine through me this week! How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You so much for my family and friends. Thank You for letting me have the privilege of having such good children and grandchildren. Thank You for surrounding me with so many wonderful friends. I am blessed. I am overwhelmed at everyone's kindness in helping me celebrate my getting one year older. It is the blessing of getting one year older, of old age … sharing life with the people that you love. Help me to live out this week in a way that makes You smile!

Do Not Be Discouraged, For The Lord Your God Will Be With You Wherever You Go

Do Not Be Discouraged,
For The Lord Your God Will Be With You
Wherever You Go
Scripture
Joshua 1
7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Observation

Over and Over and Over again the Lord tells Joshua, “Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid; do not be discouraged.” And He says the same thing over and over and over again to you and to me!
The key to successful living is found in Joshua 1:8,
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”
God's Word is not just a bunch of suggestions; it is our life!
Lets read it … meditate on it … obey it … then and only then we will be prosperous and successful!
Application
I will read, meditate, and obey God's Word. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that You direct the steps of the godly. I know that You delight in every detail of their lives. I know that although they may stumble they will never fall, because You hold them by the hand.
I know that my job is to trust in You, commit everything I do to You, and delight in You, and You will give me the desires of my heart.

'What No Eye Has Seen, What No Ear Has Heard, And What No Human Mind Has Conceived” --- The Things God Has Prepared For Those Who Love Him ---

'What No Eye Has Seen, What No Ear Has Heard,
And What No Human Mind Has Conceived” ---
The Things God Has Prepared For Those Who Love Him ---
Scripture
1 Corinthians 2
9 However, as it is written:
What no eye has seen,
    what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—
10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.
Observation
You and I can't even begin to imagine what God has in store for us! As I woke up this morning with some extra aches and pains (old age stuff) this passage was an encouragement to me!
One day we will be totally, completely pain free and we will be experiencing something so good that our minds can't even imagine how good it is going to be!
Now I really like the sound of that … don't you?
What we know about Heaven … what we know about Eternal life … is nothing compared to what it is really going to be like! It is going to be a zillion times better than we can imagine or even think!
Beam me up Lord! I am ready. How about you?
Application
I am looking forward to what God has in store for me! How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me so many promises. I need everyone of them. It is so easy to get discouraged. It is so easy to focus only on problems or things that are really not important. Help me to see things from Your perspective. Help me to see the big picture. Thank You for promising me something so good that I can't even get my mind wrapped around how good it is going to be. Wow! Thank You Lord! Help me to live my life here on Earth in a way that pleases You. Don't let me get bogged down and distracted with things that really aren't important. Guide me. Put on my heart the things that You want me to be concerned about today.
