Dear Woman You are Healed!

Zechariah 7; Zechariah 8; Zechariah 9; Luke 13
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 13

10 One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue, 11 he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!” 13 Then he touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!

14 But the leader in charge of the synagogue was indignant that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath day. “There are six days of the week for working,” he said to the crowd. “Come on those days to be healed, not on the Sabbath.”

15 But the Lord replied, “You hypocrites! Each of you works on the Sabbath day! Don’t you untie your ox or your donkey from its stall on the Sabbath and lead it out for water?

16 This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years. Isn’t it right that she be released, even on the Sabbath?”

Observation

Can you imagine being healed after eighteen years of being doubled over and never being able to stand up straight? Then in an instant everything changed and you are completely healed … no chiropractors, no back surgeries, no more pain.

It was something that an evil spirit had done to her and she had lived like that for eighteen years. Satan had her in bondage for eighteen years. She was at church looking for help, but she and Jesus were both rebuked by the leader of the synagogue because she happened to be healed on the Sabbath … Unbelievable!

Who is in bondage that needs to be set free? Do we dare help them on Sunday? I hope our hospital is open for business especially on Sundays!

Application

I will pray for the sick with this passage in mind knowing that some sickness is the work of Satan and his evil spirits.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we have so much to learn about prayer. We have so much to learn about praying for the sick. We have so much to learn about the spiritual world that surrounds us. I know that You are all powerful. There is not any sickness that is too hard for You. In fact, even if the person dies You have the power to bring them back to life if You choose. Satan has only the power that You have given him and it is power that has been loaned to him and one day You will take that power completely away from him. I realize that all of us have been given power from You to use for the good of other people. I know that there are people doubled over in bondage to Satan that need to be set free and we have been given the power to set them free.

“Life is not measured by how much you own” But how Un-American!

Zechariah 4; Zechariah 5; Zechariah 6; Luke 12
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 12

… Life is not measured by how much you own.”

16 Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ 18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. 19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Observation

Do you have a rich relationship with God? It will not matter how many “toys” you have accumulated during your lifetime because when you die you are not taking them with you. This is a great chapter that we need to read over and over again because we live in a culture that totally believes in accumulating the best and the latest and the newest and thinks that is what life is all about. God has a name for that, “You fool.”

Life is not measured by how much you own. Take inventory today and determine where your wealth is!

Application

I will memorize Luke 12:15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me be content with not having a lot of earthly possessions. Help me to take to heart verse 15 and bring that verse to my memory every time I begin to fix my thoughts on something that looks good and that I don’t have. It is my desire to have a rich relationship with You rather than a bunch of stuff that I have to worry about. Help me be more generous. Help me give more away than I keep for myself.

Do you still want to hold that grudge?

Zechariah 1; Zechariah 2; Zechariah 3; Luke 11
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 11

2 Jesus said, “This is how you should pray:

“Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
3 Give us each day the food we need,
4 and forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.

Observation

This is the big one:

If you are unwilling to forgive someone then you will really have a problem with verse four because Jesus is saying that we should ask God to forgive us in the same way we forgive others.

Do you still want to hold that grudge?

I think you should forgive that person right now. Call them up and tell them that you have forgiven them. Get that relationship patched up quickly.

Or maybe you just want to cut verse four out of your Bible and all the other verses in the Bible where God is commanding us to forgive people. Snip … snip … grudge … grudge … misery … misery!

Have you ever wondered as you are praying if you are praying the right way and praying for the right things or with the right motives? I guess all of our prayers tend to be self-centered but what should we be praying for? This model prayer doesn’t mention intercession or praying for others specifically but interceding for others will hasten God’s Kingdom. We are usually more concerned with our own little kingdoms than God’s Kingdom. Do we spend more time praying for others than we doing praying for ourselves? I hope we do.

This model prayer lets us know that we should pray for our daily needs – food. Our list is a lot longer than that but Jesus in this passage just mentioned “food”.

And finally we should pray asking God to keep us from yielding to temptation. Temptation is coming this week so we better pray for God to give us the strength we need so we don’t yield to it and fall into sin.

Application

I will try to pray this week using this prayer as a model of how I should pray.

Prayer

Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. Give me each day the food I need (and the self control not to eat too much), and forgive my sins, as I forgive those who sin against me. And don’t let me yield to temptation.

There is Nothing Wrong with the Harvest.

Haggai 1; Haggai 2; Psalm 129; Luke 10

Scripture

Luke 10

2 These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.

Observation

Do you want to see more harvested for the Kingdom then you have to have more harvesters? How do you get more workers? While you are busy working out in the harvest field you pray and ask the Lord to send more workers!

Application

I will pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send more workers.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, the harvest is great, but the workers are few. So I am praying to You because You are in charge of the harvest and I am asking You to send more workers to help.

Children are a gift from the Lord!

Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 127

3 Children are a gift from the LORD;
they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!

Luke 9

46 Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest. 47 But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side. 48 Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.”

Observation

Children are a GIFT from the Lord! Grandchildren are God’s Super Gift to us! Would you agree? If you don’t agree with me then you must not have any grandchildren!
I am so proud of my children. How about you?

Application

I will let my children know how proud I am of them! I will continue to help Kathy spoil our grandchildren!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for my five gifts and my nine super gifts! All of my children and my grandchildren are truly gifts from You. Thank You for our family and our extended family. Thank You for working in the lives of each one of them. I pray that you continue to draw each one of them into a relationship with You. Amen.

“So pay attention to how you hear”

Ezra 2; Ezra 3; Luke 8
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 8

18 “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.”

Observation

How do we hear Jesus today? The best way I know is to read the Bible everyday. I read through the passages very quickly this morning and that is not how to hear His voice. Kathy gets on to me for half reading emails that people send us because I miss the main part of what someone is trying to tell us in the message. God’s Word is a lot more important than someone’s email.

Speed-reading has its disadvantages especially when it comes to reading God's Word.

Application

I will try to slow down and pay attention to what I read in God’s Word.

But I will still speed read the emails and count on Kathy to catch the stuff I miss!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I love Your Word. I look forward to reading it everyday. Help me to slow down and pay attention so I will understand more of what You are trying to tell me. Thank You for speaking to me through Your Word.

Need Some Encouragement?

Ezra 1; Psalm 84; Psalm 85; Luke 7
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 84

11 For the LORD God is our sun and our shield.
He gives us grace and glory.

The LORD will withhold no good thing
from those who do what is right.

12 O LORD of Heaven’s Armies,
what joy for those who trust in you.

Observation

Need some encouragement this morning, then how about Psalm 84:11-12! God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. (Do you believe that this morning?) O Lord of Heaven’s Armies what joy for those (that’s us) who trust in you.

I can be encouraged by this passage this morning. Yesterday was a rough day and the day before yesterday was tough and maybe today is even going to be more difficult so Psalm 84 comes just at the right time. (I am actually writing this on Friday, September 25th because yesterday I didn’t blog … even though I did read my daily Bible reading).

Application

I will depend on the Lord today to be my sun and my shield!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, no matter how I feel I want You to know that I love You more than anything in this world. You are #ONE in my life. Help our family during this time of loss. May each one of them feel Your love and Your power. I pray that if any of them don’t have a personal relationship with You that they would turn their lives over to You during this time of loss.

What You Say Flows From What is in Your Heart!

Daniel 11; Daniel 12; Luke 6
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 6

43 “A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 44 A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. 45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

Observation

I wish that this scripture didn’t say that what you say flows from what is in your heart! But I have to admit that it is very true.

Sometimes I would like to think that when something really bad comes out of my mouth and it hurts someone that I could make an excuse and say that it wasn’t me that hurt the person, but I know how evil my heart can be.

Have you been surprised by what terrible stuff has come out of your mouth lately? It comes from your heart. Yes, you did mean it. And yes, you are just as bad as you sounded. Our hearts are desperately wicked and deceitful above all things.

So we need to stay in God’s Word everyday. We can afford to run or lead on empty. We must take time to drink from the spring of living water so something good will come out instead of something bad and offensive.

Application

I will be in God’s Word everyday because I need to be filled up with Him. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. It is my desire for Your Holy Spirit to have complete control of my life right now. As I go up to church I pray that people would hear from me only what comes from a clean heart. I pray for so many people that are struggling with relationships and floundering in their walk with You. Help them to walk in obedience. Give them victory over sin! Amen

We Don’t Deserve God’s Help! He Is a God of Mercy…

Daniel 9; Daniel 10; Psalm 123; Luke 5
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Daniel 9

We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.

19 “O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God, for your people and your city bear your name.”

Observation

As you pray to God this morning I hope that you realize that you don’t deserve God’s help … neither do I. God does not respond to our prayers because we deserve it … no He responds because He is a God of mercy.

We need to pray like Daniel prayed if we want God to respond to our requests.

Did you notice that God answered Daniel immediately but Gabriel got caught in a spiritual battle in the spiritual realms and was kept from reaching Daniel with God’s answer for twenty-one days? He even had to have the help of the archangel Michael to get free so he could deliver the message. The Bible is a fascinating book isn’t it!

19 “Don’t be afraid,” he said, “for you are very precious to God. Peace! Be encouraged! Be strong!”

Application

When I pray I need to remind myself that God is not going to answer me because I deserve it, but He will answer me because of Who He is. He is a God of mercy.

Prayer

“O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands.”

I know that I am very precious to You not because I deserve it, but because of Your tender mercies. You love me even though I am a sinner. You are an awesome God! Thank You for loving me. Thank You for hearing my prayers.

“O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God” Amen.

It is my privilege to pray for you!

Daniel 7; Daniel 8; Psalm 137; Luke 4
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 4

18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,

that the oppressed will be set free,

19 and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.

Observation

Someone has said that the reason that the poor are so responsive to the Gospel is that the Gospel is Good News and the poor don’t get very much good news! He has been sent to this earth to set the captives free.

The blind will see and the oppressed will be set free.

Has Jesus done that in your life? Have you been set free? Were you spiritually blind and now you can see?

Let me encourage you not to give up praying for the people in your sphere of influence. Don’t quit praying for God to work in their lives. It is the most important work we have been given to do while we are here on this earth. So pray, pray, pray!

Application

I will pray for every person that the Lord brings to my mind.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the job of intercession. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers. I don’t deserve the privilege of talking to You and to think that You even want to listen to me is amazing. Thank You for what You are doing in the lives of those that I am praying for. I do give You thanks! You are a Mighty God.

I Am Counting on the Lord

Daniel 5; Daniel 6; Psalm 130; Luke 3
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 130

5 I am counting on the LORD;
yes, I am counting on him.
I have put my hope in his word.

6 I long for the Lord
more than sentries long for the dawn,
yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.

Daniel 6

10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. 11 Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help.

12 So they went straight to the king and reminded him about his law. “Did you not sign a law that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to you, Your Majesty—will be thrown into the den of lions?”

“Yes,” the king replied, “that decision stands; it is an official law of the Medes and Persians that cannot be revoked.”

13 Then they told the king, “That man Daniel, one of the captives from Judah, is ignoring you and your law. He still prays to his God three times a day.”
14 Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.

15 In the evening the men went together to the king and said, “Your Majesty, you know that according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, no law that the king signs can be changed.”

16 So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him, “May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.”

17 A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den. The king sealed the stone with his own royal seal and the seals of his nobles, so that no one could rescue Daniel. 18 Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn’t sleep at all that night.

19 Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. 20 When he got there, he called out in anguish, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?”

21 Daniel answered, “Long live the king! 22 My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.”

23 The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him, for he had trusted in his God.

Observation

“Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help.” Daniel 6:11

Daniel continued to pray to his God and continued to ask God for help. The Psalmist prayed to God counting on God for help.
You and I need to pray. We need to count on our God for help no matter what. God loves to hear and answer our prayers. He loves for us to trust in Him.

Are you counting on Him today? If not …Why not?

Application

I will try to bring every thought before Him today in prayer.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be in a continuous attitude of prayer today. May everything that comes to my mind be something that I bring to You in prayer. Talk to me today. Guide me today. Show me that I can depend on You. Do mighty things in the lives of those that I have been praying for because You are a Mighty God and they need to see and experience Your awesome power.

The Messiah - The One Who Rescues

Ezekiel 47; Ezekiel 48; Luke 2
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Luke 2

25 At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him 26 and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, 28 Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,

29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
as you have promised.
30 I have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared for all people.
32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Galatians 3:13

Observation

The Jewish people were looking for a Messiah that would come and rescue the Nation of Israel and that is just what Jesus came to do. They thought that it would be a rescue from being under the oppressive Romans, but He came to rescue them from an enemy far more deadly and destructive; He came to rescue them from their sins.

Many people rejected Christ because He didn’t fit their idea of what the Messiah should be and today because many reject Christ because they don’t want to be rescued from their sins. Our job is to share with them the Good News so they can have the opportunity to be rescued from their lives of sin.

He is the Messiah! He has come to seek and save those who are lost. Have you surrendered your life to Him? Has He rescued you or are you still in need of being saved from your sins?

Application

I will continue to share about Jesus because I know that God has prepared people to accept His Son and all we have to do is share with them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, guide me to the person that you have prepared to hear about the Messiah so they can be saved. Give me boldness to share my faith with everyone that You bring into my path!

With God…!

For nothing is impossible with God.
Ezekiel 45; Ezekiel 46; Luke 1

Scripture

Luke 1

37 For nothing is impossible with God.

Observation

I have always read or at least understood this verse as saying, “For nothing is impossible for God” but it says nothing is impossible “with” God!
I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philip. 4:13
We know that nothing is too hard or impossible for God, but do we know that nothing is too hard or impossible “with” God. If God is for us who can be against us?

Application

Me + God is a majority! I will face today’s battles knowing that my All-Powerful God is with me and nothing is impossible “with” God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are All-Powerful, All Knowing, nothing is too hard with you; nothing is too hard for You. Thank You for walking with me through everything I will face this weekend!

Scripture

Revelation 22

20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”
Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

Observation

I am ready for the Lord’s return. How about you? He is coming soon because He says so! Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

I am very tired of the bad, evil stuff that surrounds us. Our country seems to be spinning down in the wrong direction and all you hear is bad reports. Our government seems to be like all the rest, corrupt to the very top, or corrupt from the top down. It is a sad day.

I am glad that I know the end of the story. That is why I can say, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!”

Application

I will live like He is coming today! How about you?

Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Guide us as we drive to Coral Springs and protect us as we travel. I pray for the new converts that you give them strength today and protect them from the evil one.

The Blessing of Being a Grandparent!

Ezekiel 40; Ezekiel 41; Psalm 128; Revelation 21
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 128

1 How joyful are those who fear the LORD—
all who follow his ways!
2 You will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
How joyful and prosperous you will be!
3 Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine,
flourishing within your home.
Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees
as they sit around your table.
4 That is the LORD’s blessing
for those who fear him.
5 May the LORD continually bless you from Zion.
May you see Jerusalem prosper as long as you live.
6 May you live to enjoy your grandchildren.
May Israel have peace!

Observation

After raising children the blessing that someone has to look forward to is being able to enjoy his or her grandchildren. Grandchildren are so enjoyable that it is a shame that we couldn’t have had the grandchildren first!

So Kathy and I are experiencing a blessing of God because He has allowed us to live long enough to enjoy our grandchildren. We have nine grandchildren! They are all very different and they are all very special. It is definitely the best gift our children have ever given us.

Having grandchildren is cool because we can enjoy them, even spoil them and then send them back home!

Tonight we will see four of our grandchildren as they come to church to participate in our mid week activities at church. They will come over to our house after church for ice cream. It is our Wednesday night ritual and we love it!

Application

I will enjoy the time with my grandchildren because I know that they are a blessing from God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for all of my grandchildren: Alyssa, Tori, Lyric, Hailey, Chloe, Liliana, Hughey, Sierra, and Louie. I pray that they would grow up with a love for You. Make their hearts tender and receptive towards You. Help them to see Jesus in their grandparents. I pray for their salvation. It is our desire to have them all in heaven together with us one day. Turn the hearts of their parents towards You and make their hearts tender and receptive to spiritual things so they can guide their children in Your ways. Thank You for allowing me to live long enough to enjoy my grandchildren because I realize that it is a huge blessing from You.

Is Your Name Written in the Book of Life?

Ezekiel 38; Ezekiel 39; Psalm 145; Revelation 20
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 20

The Final Judgment

11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books.

13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Observation

If God asked you, “Why should I let you into My heaven?” What would you say to Him? One of the correct answers that you possibly could answer Him might be, because my name is written in the Book of Life!

Is your name written in the Book of Life? How does one get their name written in this very important book you ask? There is only one-way … only one.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. John 5:24

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- John 1:12

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. [11] As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." [12] For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, [13] for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:9-13

he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, [6] whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, Titus 3:5-6

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:12

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. [12] He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. [13] I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:11-13

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Application

I will review my scripture memory verses today especially those I use in witnessing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that my name is written in the Book of Life, but help me bring others to Christ so they might experience Eternal life too. Give me a burden for the people around me that don’t know You.

The King is Coming! King of all kings and Lord of all lords!

Ezekiel 36; Ezekiel 37; Psalm 110; Revelation 19
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 19

10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”

The Rider on the White Horse

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.

12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself.

13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses.

15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

Observation

Prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus. The Bible from cover to cover is all about Jesus. Everything in scripture points to Jesus. One day we will see Him as He is described in Revelation 19 … as a conquering King; No more little baby in the manger … no this time when He returns He will be wearing a robe dipped in blood and He will be bringing with Him the armies of heaven. He will come the next time to this earth and He will rule the nations with an iron rod.

Are you ready for His return?

Application

Come Lord Jesus!

Prayer

Come Lord Jesus! I look forward to Your return. I look forward to heaven. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. You are my Savior. I look to You! Guide me this week to people that need to hear about You. Help those that came yesterday to worship to understand Your plan of salvation.

Showers of Blessing!

Ezekiel 33; Ezekiel 34; Ezekiel 35; Revelation 18
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Ezekiel 34

26 …There will be showers of blessing.

Observation

Have you heard that in a song before, “There will showers of blessing”? Now you know where it came from … Ezekiel 34:26b.

God promises to shower us with His blessing(s) if we will just put Him first in our lives. If we will walk close to Him and live lives of righteousness then we can experience showers of blessing.

Are you experiencing showers of blessing? Hmmm … if not then you might want to ask yourself this question, “Does God have first place in my life?”

It was so good to experience the rain yesterday. The ground was so dry. We needed a good rain. Do you need a good rain today? Do you need showers of blessing today? Then turn to God … surrender your life to Him … put Him back in first place.

Application

I will thank Him. I am so blessed.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being so good to me. I don’t deserve it. Thank You for the showers of blessing. I pray today that I might bring You glory. Help me to magnify You in all that I do. Give me a servant’s heart.

The God whom we serve is able to save us!

Daniel 3; Daniel 4; Psalm 81; Revelation 17

Scripture

Daniel 3

8 But some of the astrologers went to the king and informed on the Jews. 9 They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “Long live the king! 10 You issued a decree requiring all the people to bow down and worship the gold statue when they hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes, and other musical instruments. 11 That decree also states that those who refuse to obey must be thrown into a blazing furnace. 12 But there are some Jews—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—whom you have put in charge of the province of Babylon. They pay no attention to you, Your Majesty. They refuse to serve your gods and do not worship the gold statue you have set up.”

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage and ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. When they were brought in, 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? 15 I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the sound of the musical instruments. But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?”

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

The Blazing Furnace

19 Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual. 20 Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So they tied them up and threw them into the furnace, fully dressed in their pants, turbans, robes, and other garments. 22 And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in. 23 So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.

24 But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?”

“Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied.
25 “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come!”

So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. 27 Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!

Observation

Talking about going through the fiery trials with us …Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego experienced God’s protection; He personally walked around in that fiery furnace with them! They didn’t even smell of smoke!

The fourth man walking around in the furnace must have been Jesus! You would have thought that King Nebuchadnezzar would have become a believer in the Most High God, but we see in the next chapter that he didn’t.

Application

I will not go through any trials alone. Jesus will always be right there with me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me the faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I would also love to have the wisdom of Daniel. These stories are to show us Your heart and they are in scriptures to show that we can place our faith in You. You are the Most High God and You are worthy to be praised!

Here Is a Gentle Reminder That God is in Control!

Daniel 1; Daniel 2; Revelation 16
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Daniel 2

“Praise the name of God forever and ever,
for he has all wisdom and power.
21 He controls the course of world events;
he removes kings and sets up other kings.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the scholars.
22 He reveals deep and mysterious things
and knows what lies hidden in darkness,
though he is surrounded by light.
23 I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors,
for you have given me wisdom and strength.

Observation

Does it seem like our country is spinning out of control? It does to me. It is helpful to go to God’s Word and be reminded that God is in control and He controls the course of world events! He removes kings (and presidents) and sets up other kings (and presidents). He is in control.

Application

I will not fret over what is happening to our country, but I will also not be quiet about it! God expects us to uphold righteousness and protect and value life. He expects us to fight against corruption and evil and to fight for what is right. But it is very good to know that ultimately God is in control.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to know what to oppose and what to support. Help me to pray for the leaders of our government. I pray today that you give our president godly wisdom and keep him from evil. I pray that our country would repent and turn back to You so we don’t have to experience Your wrath and punishment. Give me wisdom and strength to serve You today.

“The LORD is my inheritance”

Lamentations 3; Lamentations 4; Lamentations 5; Revelation 15
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Lamentations 3

22 The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease.

23 Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.

24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance;
therefore, I will hope in him!”

25 The LORD is good to those who depend on him,
to those who search for him.

Observation

Yesterday I read this passage to the Tampa City Council at their City Council meeting. I had the opportunity to pray at the meeting as they started their day. I emphasized verse 25 as a verse they should remember; “The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.” It has been so sad reading through the prophets at how God punished Israel and Judah because they no longer depended on the Lord. They rejected God and prayed to the Queen of Heaven. How sad! There is no Queen of Heaven. Heaven only has a King and He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Our government, those that lead us, better depend on the Lord or we are in big trouble as a nation. The President is not a savior. We have a Savior that we should depend on and it is not the leader of our country. Yes, we should pray for our President and the people in leadership throughout our government we should pray that they seek the Lord with all their heart and with all their soul and that they should depend on Him to guide them.

Application

The Lord is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in him!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You my inheritance; therefore I will hope in You! You are good to those who depend on You, so I will always search for You. Your faithful love never ends! Your mercies never cease. Great is Your faithfulness; Your mercies begin afresh each morning. You are all that I need. Amen.

Hell Will Be a Place of Torment

Lamentations 1; Lamentations 2; Obadiah 1; Revelation 14
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

The Three Angels

6 And I saw another angel flying through the sky, carrying the eternal Good News to proclaim to the people who belong to this world—to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7 “Fear God,” he shouted. “Give glory to him. For the time has come when he will sit as judge. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all the springs of water.”

8 Then another angel followed him through the sky, shouting, “Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen—because she made all the nations of the world drink the wine of her passionate immorality.”

9 Then a third angel followed them, shouting, “Anyone who worships the beast and his statue or who accepts his mark on the forehead or on the hand 10 must drink the wine of God’s anger. It has been poured full strength into God’s cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. 11 The smoke of their torment will rise forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name.”

12 This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.

Observation

Hell will be a place of torment that will have no relief. It will be torment 24/7 and it will last forever and ever. The last time I checked “forever and ever” is a very long time.

Hell is a real place and people will go there unless we share the Good News with them that God has planned something better for them.

Verse 12 is the verse for me today, “This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.”

Application

I will obey God’s commands and I will maintain my faith in Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me share the Good News with people today. Give me the opportunity to be your witness. Help our people obey Your commands and maintain their faith in Jesus. I pray that You help those that are overwhelmed with life. Help them to maintain their faith in Jesus.

Need A Guide?

Jeremiah 42; Jeremiah 43; Jeremiah 44; Psalm 48; Revelation 13
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 48

9 O God, we meditate on your unfailing love
as we worship in your Temple.

10 As your name deserves, O God,
you will be praised to the ends of the earth.
Your strong right hand is filled with victory.

11 Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice.
Let all the towns of Judah be glad
because of your justice.

12 Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem.
Walk around and count the many towers.

13 Take note of the fortified walls,
and tour all the citadels,
that you may describe them
to future generations.

14 For that is what God is like.
He is our God forever and ever,
and he will guide us until we die.

Observation

What is our God like? He is like the fortified city of Jerusalem only way better. He is our God forever and ever and He will guide us until we die.

In today’s Bible reading in Jeremiah the people had made the decision to reject the Lord and worship someone that they called the “Queen of Heaven” and in Revelation 13 we find the people of this world worshiping the “Anti Christ”, but in Psalm 48 we see where our worship should be focused, “O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple. As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory.”

You and I have the opportunity to worship many wrong things, but I am worshiping the God that will be my God forever and ever and Who is going to guide me until I die. How about you?

Application

Today I choose to worship You God and You alone.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am amazed when I read about how your people during the time of Jeremiah could reject You and call on someone that they called “Queen of Heaven”. But I look around today and see how people follow all kinds of false gods so it shouldn’t surprise me. Help me lead people to the saving knowledge of your Good News. Give me the opportunity to be your witness today.

Here Comes Trouble!

2 Kings 25; 2 Chronicles 36; Jeremiah 40; Jeremiah 41; Revelation 12
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 12

7 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. 8 And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. 9 This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

Observation

Satan and all of his cronies are alive and well in this earth and they cause us a lot of trouble. I think that with our old nature still fighting against us everyday and pulling us towards sin we don’t need any help from the Devil and his fallen angels to completely mess us up but we have their help anyway.

Application

I will be on guard for Satan’s attack.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me have compassion for those that have been caught by Satan’s deception and have fallen into sin. Help me to be careful so I don’t fall into sin too. Guard my heart. Give me wisdom to help those that have fallen and the strength to be able to help them.

Come Up Here!

Ezekiel 29; Ezekiel 30; Ezekiel 31; Ezekiel 32; Revelation 11
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 11

The Two Witnesses

1 Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers. 2 But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.”

4 These two prophets are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of all the earth. 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire flashes from their mouths and consumes their enemies. This is how anyone who tries to harm them must die. 6 They have power to shut the sky so that no rain will fall for as long as they prophesy. And they have the power to turn the rivers and oceans into blood, and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they wish.

7 When they complete their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the bottomless pit will declare war against them, and he will conquer them and kill them. 8 And their bodies will lie in the main street of Jerusalem, the city that is figuratively called “Sodom” and “Egypt,” the city where their Lord was crucified. 9 And for three and a half days, all peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will stare at their bodies. No one will be allowed to bury them. 10 All the people who belong to this world will gloat over them and give presents to each other to celebrate the death of the two prophets who had tormented them.

11 But after three and a half days, God breathed life into them, and they stood up! Terror struck all who were staring at them. 12 Then a loud voice from heaven called to the two prophets, “Come up here!” And they rose to heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched.

Observation

I had a very good friend at the first church that I pastured while I was in Seminary. She was like a grandmother to Kathy and me. When we would go to visit here she would shout as we walked up to her front door, “Get in this house”. With her big smile and huge heart it was the neatest welcome anyone could ever want to hear.
One day those two special prophets will hear God say to them, “Come up here” interpreted by me, “Get in this house!”

One day He will welcome me into his house. How about you? He has a mansion prepared for me. How about you?

Application

Even in these troubled days I look forward to the future because my Heavenly Father has big eternal plans for me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, all the stuff that is happening today and even the bad stuff that is sure to happen in our future will be nothing compared to what You have in store for us. I am not worried because my future is in Your Hands.

Restoration for Israel

Ezekiel 25; Ezekiel 26; Ezekiel 27; Ezekiel 28; Revelation 10
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Ezekiel 28

Restoration for Israel

25 “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Israel will again live in their own land, the land I gave my servant Jacob. For I will gather them from the distant lands where I have scattered them. I will reveal to the nations of the world my holiness among my people. 26 They will live safely in Israel and build homes and plant vineyards. And when I punish the neighboring nations that treated them with contempt, they will know that I am the LORD their God.”

Observation

Israel seems to have seen the fulfillment of this prophecy. They are a nation once again and they do seem to have God’s protection as they live completely surrounded by enemy nations.

The message to me as I read about Israel is that we serve a jealous God and He does not want us worshiping idols or anything else that would take His place. There is always the danger of letting things move into that God made place in our hearts. There is a place in the heart of man designed for only God and yet we constantly are tempted to yield that special place to something or someone else.

1 John 5:21
Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
[6] in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Application

I will make sure that nothing is filling the place reserved for God in my heart.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I read about Israel and I think how could they have been so stupid and then I see how easy it is for me to allow things to come into my life and mess up our relationship. Keep me from sin. Don’t let me drift and let things come into my heart that would take Your place. Help me trust You with all my heart. Help me not to lean on my own understanding and keep me on Your straight path for my life.

Apollyon – The Destroyer

Ezekiel 22; Ezekiel 23; Ezekiel 24; Revelation 9
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 9

11 Their king is the angel from the bottomless pit; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon—the Destroyer.

Observation

All power comes from God and Satan would have no power if God didn’t loan it to him. Power is something that is given to us for a season. The words authority and influence could also be words to describe what God has given to each of us. All of us have power to some degree and we need to know that it has been given to us. We must be good stewards of the power, of the authority and influence that we have been given.

The Destroyer has power. God has loaned that power to him, but one day God will take away his power and lock him up in the bottomless pit.

We have the choice to use our authority and influence for good or for bad. One day God will take that power away from us. If you are a parent then use that influence with your children for good because one day you will not have the same influence/power over them. If you are an employer or business owner then use your power for the good of your employees. You will not have that opportunity forever.

Application

I will use my authority and influence today to move someone closer to Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is my desire to live for You today. I want to put You first today. Help me influence someone in Your direction today.

Scripture

Psalm 111

1 Praise the LORD!
I will thank the LORD with all my heart
as I meet with his godly people.

Observation

Sunday morning is the time when I have the chance to meet with all of our church, but do I take time to thank the Lord with all of my heart as I meet with them.

Not like I should.

Application

This Sunday I will take time in the service to do just that. I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with his godly people.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is my desire to take time to thank You with all my heart right now and this Sunday as I meet with Your godly people.

Praise! It is What Heaven is All About!

Ezekiel 17; Ezekiel 18; Ezekiel 19; Revelation 7
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Revelation 7

9 After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. 10 And they were shouting with a mighty shout,

“Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne
and from the Lamb!”

11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God. 12 They sang,

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
forever and ever! Amen.”

13 Then one of the twenty-four elders asked me, “Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come from?”

14 And I said to him, “Sir, you are the one who knows.”

Then he said to me, “These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.

15 “That is why they stand in front of God’s throne
and serve him day and night in his Temple.

And he who sits on the throne
will give them shelter.

16 They will never again be hungry or thirsty;
they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun.

17 For the Lamb on the throne
will be their Shepherd.

He will lead them to springs of life-giving water.
And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

Observation

This is a glimpse of Heaven! Folks from every nation and tribe and people and language were standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were singing and praising:

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
forever and ever! Amen.”

God is patient and the only reason that He has not already returned is because there are still people groups and tribes that have not had the opportunity to hear the Good News! But one day soon that last people group will have the opportunity to hear and He will return.

Are you ready? Are you living out a life of faith today? Did you get up this morning talking to the Lord? Did you spend time during the night talking to Him? Does He dominate your thought life?

Application

I will praise Him today!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength belong to our God
forever and ever! Amen.”
