So Be Strong And Courageous All You Who Put Your Hope In The Lord!

So Be Strong
And Courageous
All You Who Put Your Hope In The Lord!
Scripture
Psalm 31
Love the Lord, all you godly ones!
For the Lord protects those who are loyal to him,
but he harshly punishes the arrogant.
24 So be strong and courageous,
all you who put your hope in the Lord!
Psalm 51
16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.
You do not want a burnt offering.

17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Observation
If you read your Bible on a regular basis you would notice just like I have that the phrase, “Be strong and courageous”, is repeated over and over again throughout God's Word.
I think that God has done that because we need, almost on a daily basis, a reminder to be strong and courageous!
We live in a rough world, full of lumps and bruises, hurts and disappointments. Every day we are faced with things that cause us to be afraid, to fret, to be discouraged.
So God, if we are reading His Word every day, constantly reminds us to be strong and courageous!
He reminded me today and so I am passing on His encouragement to you!
Joshua 1:9
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
1 Corinthians 1:8
He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
1 Corinthians 15:58
So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
Ephesians 6:10
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Application

I will stand firm in my faith. I will be strong and courageous!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for all of Your promises. Thank You for reminding me all the time not to be afraid. It is amazing to me the things that cause me the most fear. Help me to be bold and courageous! Don't let me be a spiritual wimp. I know that You are on my side. You are all-powerful! Nothing is too hard for You! So increase my faith, Lord. Help me to trust You today with every detail of my life!
I pray for any person reading this blog today who is dealing with fear. Help them, Lord. Help them to be bold and courageous! Help them to trust in You today for strength!

An Adulterous Woman Consumes A Man, Then Wipes Her Mouth And Says, “What's Wrong With That?”

An Adulterous Woman Consumes A Man,
Then Wipes Her Mouth And Says,
What's Wrong With That?”
Scripture
Proverbs 30
20 An adulterous woman consumes a man,
then wipes her mouth and says, “What’s wrong with that?”

Observation
What's wrong with that?” It seems to be the prevailing attitude within our culture about sexual immorality and that attitude seems to have made its way into today's church.
If you and I are part of the body of Christ then God expects us to stay away from sexual immorality.
It is said that 50% of the men that are attending church are struggling with pornography … and that number could be even higher!
If you find yourself struggling with pornography or any type of sexual immorality – get help!
Application
I will allow myself to be held accountable by men close to me. I will help others to walk in sexual purity.
How about you? Need help? What needs to change?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray for the men in our church. Help them to walk in sexual purity. For those who are struggling with adultery, fornication, pornography, and homosexuality, help them, Lord. Help me not to yield to sexual temptation. Help me to remain faithful to my wife.

But You Must Not Forget This One Thing, Dear Friends: A Day Is Like A Thousand Years To The Lord, And A Thousand Years Is Like A Day.

But You Must Not Forget This One Thing, Dear Friends:
A Day Is Like A Thousand Years To The Lord,
And A Thousand Years Is Like A Day.
Scripture
2 Peter 3
8 But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.
9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.
15 And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—
16 speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.
Observation
Are you mean? Are you harsh? Do you mistreat people? Are you abusive? Maybe you are living with someone who is all of the above. I am praying for some of you who are living with an ungodly and abusive partner. It breaks my heart to hear about what you have to endure.
The only reason that God continues to let this happen is that He is patient. His patience gives people time to be saved.
One day, I would love to hear that the mean, the harsh, the verbally abusive person has repented and placed his or her faith in the Lord and has been radically changed.
I do know that my God is constantly working in their life to bring them to repentance. God is patient with them. He wants them to be saved.
Application
I will patiently pray for those who right now don't know how to love because they don't have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I will never give up praying for them.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I need Your patience. Help me to not give up on people. I want to see their lives changed. I don't like the drama, the hurt, the damage that I see happening to family members of those who live with an abusive partner. Help them, Lord. Come to their rescue. Don't let the abuse continue. I pray for changed hearts. I pray for repentance and salvation and healing. You are the mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You.
Psalm 103:8-12
8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9 He will not constantly accuse us,
    nor remain angry forever.
10 He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12 He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.

So You See, The Lord Knows How To Rescue Godly People From Their Trials … 2 Peter 2

So You See,
The Lord Knows
How To Rescue Godly People From Their Trials …
Scripture
2 Peter 2
9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.
Observation
Are you going through a rough time right now? What are you doing about it? Are you fretting about it? If so, how is that working for you?
The Apostle Peter was writing to a church that was under extreme persecution and his word to them was this – look up! Trust in the Lord because He knows how to rescue godly people from their trials.
So let's get our eyes off of our circumstances and place them firmly on the only One who can help us!
Prayer is not wishful thinking. No … No … No … Prayer is trusting in the One who knows how to rescue us!
Application
I will trust God's heart when I am unable to see His hand in what is going on in my life.
How about you?
James 5:13-18
13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.

14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.

15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years!
18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as I read Your Word this morning I was reminded of just how much You have done for me and that You are continuing to do. You will never leave me or forsake me. You are always watching out for me. Nothing escapes Your watchful eye. Everything that happens to me is first filtered through You. Nothing touches me without Your permission. I am Your child. I have been blood-bought. I am precious in Your sight. You delight in me. You delight in every detail of my life. I am fearfully and wonderfully made! Hallelujah! You are worthy of all praise!
Isaiah 53:4-5
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried;
it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God,
a punishment for his own sins!
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion,
    crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.

By His Divine Power, God Has Given Us Everything We Need For Living A Godly Life.

By His Divine Power,
God Has Given Us
Everything We Need For Living A Godly Life.
Scripture
2 Peter
3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,
6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,
7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
Psalm 92
12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.

13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.

14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
Observation
I had a hard time this morning trying to decide whether to write something about Psalm 92 or 2 Peter 1, so I included verses from both of them for you!
2 Peter 1:3 says that God has given us everything that we need to live a godly life – so no more excuses. If Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, then we can do this!
It is so easy to make excuses, isn't it! We can always try to place the blame for our bad conduct on someone else, like our spouse, but if we are honest there are always plenty of things that we can change in our own lives and that is what we need to focus on.
The only person that you and I can change is ourselves. If we will just make some important changes in our own lives it will be amazing what will happen in the lives of those around us. Suddenly they won't be half as bad as they were before!
I did really wanted to write about Psalm 92:14 this morning too! Read it and you will know why it jumped out at me today!
Application
When I see something that isn't right in someone else I need to remind myself that I am also a work in progress!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that You have given me everything that I need to live a godly life. I have no excuse. Help me to focus on what Eddy needs to change and not worry about the faults that I see in others. All of us are broken and we are all in need of a complete overhaul. Thank You for putting up with me in spite of all of my imperfections. Thank You, Lord, for not giving up on me. Don't let me ever give up on the people that You have placed in my life.

Stay Alert! Watch Out For Your Great Enemy, The Devil. He Prowls Around Like A Roaring Lion, Looking For Someone To Devour.

Stay Alert! Watch Out For Your Great Enemy, The Devil.
He Prowls Around Like A Roaring Lion,
Looking For Someone To Devour.
Scripture
1 Peter 5
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.
Observation
I remember my pastor, Bruce Moore, saying once while he was speaking about the importance of verse 1 Peter 5:7, “We need to take every worry and concern to God in prayer because the very next verse, 1 Peter 5:8, tells us that we have an enemy, the devil, and he is determined to wreck our lives and destroy us.
Yes, we have an enemy and it is not our spouse nor our boss. Satan's plan is to wreck your life. How is he doing with that? If he is having success then we need to reread 1 Peter 5:7 and do what it says!
Matthew 4:10
Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”
John 10:10
10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Application
I will take all of my worries and concerns to the Lord.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to remember that You want to me to depend on You to take care of everything that I tend to worry about. You have always taken care of me. I know that you will take care of me in the future. You are on my side!
I pray for anyone reading this blog today who is having a hard time. Help them to see that 1 Peter 5:7 is a promise for them today. May Your face shine on them today with Your favor!
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Zerah The Ethiopian Came Out Against Them With An Army Of A Million Men And 300 Chariots

Zerah The Ethiopian Came Out Against Them
With An Army
Of A Million Men And 300 Chariots
Scripture
2 Chronicles 14
Once an Ethiopian named Zerah attacked Judah with an army of 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots. They advanced to the town of Mareshah,

10 so Asa deployed his armies for battle in the valley north of Mareshah.

11 Then Asa cried out to the Lord his God, “O Lord, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in you alone. It is in your name that we have come against this vast horde. O Lord, you are our God; do not let mere men prevail against you!”

12 So the Lord defeated the Ethiopians in the presence of Asa and the army of Judah, and the enemy fled.
Observation
King Asa was totally and completely outnumbered. He faced an enemy army of a million men who were just on the other side of the valley. So what did this King of Judah do?
You and I are not facing a million-man army today, but we are facing struggles and challenges.
The odds were very much against King Asa that day. I am sure to the army of Judah that the situation seemed pretty hopeless. The odds of winning this battle were definitely against them.
Maybe you are in a situation today where the odds are stacked against you. Maybe things look bleak, maybe there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.
If that is the situation you find yourself in today then you can identify with King Asa and the situation that he found himself in.
The key for both of us, when we find ourselves in a desperate situation, is to do exactly what King Asa did. He turned to his Heavenly Father and cried out to Him for help!
On our big mirror in our bedroom written in huge letters, my wife Kathy has written these words, “Pray First!”
God took care of that million-man army. He defeated them! He will take care of us too! We just need to pray and trust Him!
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
1 Peter 5:7
Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.
Psalm 46:1-3
1 God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
2 So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
3 Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters
Romans 12:11-12
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Application
I will try to always remember to pray first when I find myself in a desperate situation.
How about you?
Jeremiah 33:3
Call to Me, and I will answer you. And I will show you great and wonderful things which you do not know.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know as I write this that there is someone who will read this who is in a desperate situation. Help them, Lord. Help them to trust You today with whatever they are facing. Give them a supernatural peace that comes from talking to You and trusting You to handle their problems. Bring people into their life today to encourage them.
I pray for healing for the sick. I pray for healing for those who have broken relationships. I pray for those who are crushed by the pressures of life. Help them to depend on You.

But Those Who Trust In The Lord Will Find New Strength. They Will Soar High On Wings Like Eagles. They Will Run And Not Grow Weary. They Will Walk And Not Faint.

But Those Who Trust In The Lord Will Find New Strength.
They Will Soar High On Wings Like Eagles. They Will Run
And Not Grow Weary. They Will Walk And Not Faint.
Scripture
Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Have you never heard?
    Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.

29 He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.

30 Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.

31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 41:10
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

1 Peter 3:12
12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face
    against those who do evil.”
Observation
Why is it so important for me to read God's Word every day? One of the main reasons, though there are many, is that the Bible is full of God's promises!
And if I didn't read them on a daily basis I could easily grow weary and faint and give up.
Are you weary? Are you ready to give up? Let me encourage you to open up God's Word and dig in and then hold on to every promise that God gives you today!
I listed a few of my favorite promises from my Bible reading this morning, but I could have listed a few more both from Isaiah and from 1 Peter.
Every day God shows me all of the things that He has promised me as I read His Word. And you can enjoy them too if you take time, just a few minutes, to open up His Book!
Application
I look forward to getting up tomorrow morning to read more of what God has to say to me!
How about you? Will you take a few minutes each day to read God's Word?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us Your Word. You did not leave us here alone. You have given us Your Holy Spirit, Your Word, and other believers to help us get through each day. Thank You for each and every one of Your promises.
I pray for my special friend James Hartley as he goes in for surgery today and I pray for our friends Maria and Jerry Serrano as they go through this time of loss.

He Is Your Example, And You Must Follow In His Steps.

He Is
Your Example,
And You Must Follow In His Steps.
Scripture
1 Peter 2
21 For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
22 He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone.

23 He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.

24 He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.

25 Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.
Observation
Excuses … Excuses … Excuses – Yes, that is exactly what they are!
Let's not make excuses – let's do what God has called us to do – He has called us to do good, even if it means suffering.
Jesus Christ is our example and we are called to follow in His steps. If wearing a W.W.J.D. bracelet or necklace, or putting on a T-shirt with a Christian message, or placing a bumper sticker on your vehicle, helps you walk in obedience and helps you follow in Jesus' steps then, by all means, do it!
This passage is a reminder about what Jesus did for me. He personally carried my sins in His body on the cross so that I can be dead to sin and live for what is right!
And He did that for you too!
Application
I will not make excuses. I will do good. I will follow in Jesus' steps!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to always follow in the steps of Jesus. Don't let me compare myself with anyone else. Help me to do good. Keep me away from stupid sins that mess up my relationship with you and mess up my relationship with those around me. Help me to be sensitive to Your Holy Spirit today.
I pray for anyone who may be reading this blog today. Help them to shine today with your love. Meet their needs as they put You first.

Don't Slip Back Into Your Old Ways Of Living To Satisfy Your Own Desires.

Don't Slip Back
Into Your Old Ways Of Living
To Satisfy Your Own Desires.
Scripture
1 Peter 1
13 So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world.
14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.
15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.
16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
Observation

Backsliding is a word that I have heard mentioned quite a bit ever since I first started going to church with my girlfriend Kathy Bearden way back in 1968 – and 50 years later she is still my girlfriend and she is my very best friend!

Before you and I came to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our old way of living was our only way of living. We didn't know anything else. But when Jesus Christ came into our lives to live within us everything changed, and now we do know the difference.

Going back to the old life to satisfy our own desires isn't going to cut it anymore! You and I are not going to be happy campers if we slip back into our old ways of living. God's Holy Spirit that lives within us will make sure of that!

God warns us over and over again in His Word not to yield to the flesh and slide back to our old ways of living.
Proverbs 14:14
Backsliders get what they deserve; good people receive their reward.
Romans 8:3
... So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
1 Corinthians 10:13
13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
Application

I will be careful not to slip back to my old ways of living and I will help those who have yielded to temptation. I will try to help them get back on track.

How about you? Are you walking in sobriety and in victory?

James 5
19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back,
20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
2 Corinthians 5:18
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me live a godly life in an ungodly world. Help me influence those around me to walk in Your direction and don't let me be influenced to walk in my old ways of life.
I pray for those striving to walk in sobriety. Give them victory. Don't let them slip back into their old ways of living. Help them, Lord. Bring people alongside them who will support them.
There is always the temptation to sin. Give me the strength to say 'no' to sin. Don't let me miss the way out that You always provide!

Are Any Of You Suffering Hardships? You Should Pray.

Are Any Of You
Suffering Hardships?
You Should Pray.
Scripture
James 5

Observation

Kathy and I just watched the movie, “Breakthrough”!
If you haven't watched it yet I would recommend it! What an amazing story about how God answered a mother's prayer for her son who had fallen through the ice on a lake in St Louis, Missouri. He was underwater for 15 minutes and another 45 minutes with no pulse. His Mom walks in the hospital room to see her son and prays for him and suddenly he had a pulse. All the doctors said it was a miracle!
I love it. We serve a mighty God!
No, God doesn't always heal when we pray in the way we ask. There are times when His response to our prayers is not going to be the visible miraculous answer like this mother received.
But we should always ask BIG …
Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray.”
Application
I am asking BIG! I serve a mighty God!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know the power of prayer. I am alive today because people prayed for me. I realize that You are constantly at work in the lives of every person that I am praying for. Miracles are happening all around me and most of them I don't even realize that they are happening. Sick physical bodies and sick spiritual hearts are being healed and transformed and restored all around me every day.
Lord, some of the people that read this blog are an answer to my prayers. Thank You for always hearing us. Thank You for never giving up on us. You are an awesome God.
I pray for those who have been praying and praying for a loved one to be healed and for a loved one to be saved. Bless them, Lord. May Your face on them with favor. Show them that they can trust that You are work even when they don't see an answer to their prayers.
