Love Never Gives Up!

Numbers 24; Numbers 25; Numbers 26; Numbers 27; 1 Corinthians 13

Scripture

1 Corinthians 13

Love Is the Greatest

1 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8 Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9 Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10 But when full understanding comes, these partial things will become useless.

11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Observation

As you read this chapter what goes through your mind? You can take the name of Jesus and put it in the place of love in every place that the word “love” is mentioned and it would still have the same meaning because God is love.
The more we are like Jesus the more we will reflect the truth found in this chapter. What verse or phrase requires extra work on your part? For me I think the phrase that gives me the most trouble is found in verse five, “love is not irritable.” So being grumpy and being loving doesn’t go together … imagine that!

Application

I will think about this chapter as I go through this Lord’s Day. I will ask the Lord to help me be a reflection of 1 Cor. 13 today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to model, help me to live out, this chapter. It is so easy for me to be grumpy. Help me to love people deeply today. Show me Your big picture so I can be excited about what You are doing at our church. I pray for people to be saved today. I pray for hearts to be open to Your Word.

Five Loaves of Bread and Two Fish + Jesus is Always Enough

Scripture

Mark 6

Jesus Feeds Five Thousand

30 The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. 31 Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

32 So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone. 33 But many people recognized them and saw them leaving, and people from many towns ran ahead along the shore and got there ahead of them. 34 Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.

35 Late in the afternoon his disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. 36 Send the crowds away so they can go to the nearby farms and villages and buy something to eat.”

37 But Jesus said, “You feed them.”
“With what?” they asked. “We’d have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!”

38 “How much bread do you have?” he asked. “Go and find out.”
They came back and reported, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish.”
39 Then Jesus told the disciples to have the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of fifty or a hundred.

41 Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. 42 They all ate as much as they wanted, 43 and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. 44 A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed from those loaves!

Jesus Walks on Water

45 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. 46 After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.

47 Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. 48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him.

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” 51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, 52 for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.

53 After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore 54 and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, 55 and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

Observation

Jesus is teaching his disciples through these miracles that they were serving One that could meet their every need and nothing was impossible if they put their faith and their trust in Him.

Today Jesus is doing the same thing with us. He is teaching us that nothing is too hard for Him. He is teaching us that we can rely completely and totally on Him. He does it through difficulties and challenges that we face in our lives. Trust Him today no matter what you are facing. Trust Him to walk through the difficult situation with you. Be strong. Be courageous.

Application

My trust is in the Lord today. I will look to Him to supply everything that we need.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, over and over again in Your word you show me that I can trust in You. Over and over and over again You show me that You will take care of me and those I love. Today is no exception. You can take five loaves of bread and two small fish and turn that meal into a feast for thousands and if You can do that You can surely meet my needs and my challenges. You are an Awesome God. You are the Great Provider. The Lord is my Shepherd I have everything I need.

Don’t Be Afraid, Just Have Faith

Scripture

Mark 5

35 While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”

36 But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

37 Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter, James, and John (the brother of James). 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw much commotion and weeping and wailing. 39 He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”

40 The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. 41 Holding her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” 42 And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! They were overwhelmed and totally amazed. 43 Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone what had happened, and then he told them to give her something to eat.

Observation

Jairus has just been told that his little girl was dead and Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith. I wonder what was going through his mind as he walked back to his home with Jesus? I imagine that he repeated those words of Jesus over and over again in his head. What would you have done if it were your little girl?
One day I imagine that we will see Jairus and his little girl in heaven. I am sure that Jairus and his little girl became believers in Jesus that day. Don’t you? It was a totally impossible situation for Jairus. His little girl was no longer just sick she was dead. It is a reminder to us that nothing is impossible with God.

Application

I serve Jesus that raised this little girl from the dead so I will not be afraid. He can meet all of my needs.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, over and over and over again in Your word you tell us not to be afraid. Over and over and over again in Your word you tell us to just have faith and it is my desire to trust You with the faith that You have given me. Faith is a gift. Help me use the amount of faith that You have given me to not be afraid. Thank You in advance for the miracles that You are going to do in the peoples' lives around me. I trust in You.

Who is This Man, Even The Wind and Waves Obey Him?

Numbers 17; Numbers 18; Psalm 29; Mark 4
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Mark 4

41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Observation

I don’t know who you are trusting in today, but I know Who I am trusting in and His name is Jesus. He is God. He is able to meet every need of my life and every need of your life. There is nothing too hard for Him. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the King of Glory.

Application

I will trust Him today with things that are out of my control like the disciples learned in the passage that we read today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, so much is out of my control. I can’t change or help the people to change that I want to see walking in victory, but I know that You can help them. I pray for them today. Give them victory. Help them leave the addictions that have such tight grips on them. Give them victory. I pray for miracles. I pray for changed lives for Your honor and for Your glory. I pray that they will be able to give You praise for what You have done in their lives. Amen.

Ministry of Intercession

Numbers 14; Numbers 15; Numbers 16; Mark 3
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Numbers 14

17 “Please, Lord, prove that your power is as great as you have claimed. For you said, 18 ‘The LORD is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But he does not excuse the guilty. He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations.’ 19 In keeping with your magnificent, unfailing love, please pardon the sins of this people, just as you have forgiven them ever since they left Egypt.”

Observation

Praying for people that do not deserve to be forgiven is our job. Sinners who are acting out and who are being rebellious against God need for us to pray for them. They deserve God’s judgment, but we are praying on their behalf for God to forgive them and save them. Who are you praying for today that needs to receive a pardon from God? I hope someone comes to your mind.
I am praying for some folks that need God’s help and God’s forgiveness even though right now they seem to care less about God and His righteousness.

Application

I will continue to pray for God’s unfailing love to work in the lives of some of my family members until I see them walking with the Lord. I do not plan on giving up on them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that because of Your unfailing love for us that You change the hearts of those in my family that seem determine to destroy themselves in live styles of sin and disobedience. I ask You to turn their hearts. I pray that You open up their spiritual eyes so that they can see all that You have waiting for them if they will just repent. Help them to repent. Help them to turn. Give them new hearts.

You Have To Realize That You Are Lost Before You Can Be Saved…

Numbers 12; Numbers 13; Psalm 90; Mark 2
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Mark 2

13 Then Jesus went out to the lakeshore again and taught the crowds that were coming to him. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed him.

15 Later, Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.) 16 But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such scum?”

17 When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”

Observation

Do you know that you are a sinner? And do you realize that because you are a sinner that you deserve to go to Hell? We are all sinners and we all deserve to go to Hell. Until you realize that you are a Hell bound sinner it is impossible for you to be saved. Most people I talk to don’t believe that they are bound for hell. They believe that they are pretty good people and that God is going to let them into Heaven because of their goodness.

If you believe that you are pretty good and that you deserve to go to Heaven let me share a few verses with you so that you know you are a sinner in need of a Savior:

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death … Romans 6:23

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, Hebrews 9:27

What we earn (a wage) by sinning is death (physical and spiritual death) and eternal judgment (Hell).

I witnessed to people yesterday that thought that they were ok with God. They didn’t think that they were bad sinners. They thought that their goodness would cause God to let them into His Heaven. They are on their way to Hell. I did my best yesterday to help them realize that they were sinners that needed a Savior. I pray that they realize that they are lost and perishing without Christ.

Application

I will continue to share my faith and I will continue to help people realize that they are lost so they can be found.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me share my faith in a way that brings people face to face with their spiritual condition. I pray that they realize they are sinners bound for Hell and turn to You. I pray for people to be saved. Let me have opportunities to help people come to know you.

My God Is Able … Is Yours?

Numbers 10; Numbers 11; Psalm 27; Mark 1

Scripture

Numbers 11

4 Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed. 5 “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. 6 But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”

10 Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the LORD became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated. 11 And Moses said to the LORD, “Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people? 12 Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors? 13 Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! 15 If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”

21 But Moses responded to the LORD, “There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say, ‘I will give them meat for a whole month!’ 22 Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?”

23 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!” …

31 Now the LORD sent a wind that brought quail from the sea and let them fall all around the camp. For miles in every direction there were quail flying about three feet above the ground. 32 So the people went out and caught quail all that day and throughout the night and all the next day, too. No one gathered less than fifty bushels! They spread the quail all around the camp to dry. 33 But while they were gorging themselves on the meat—while it was still in their mouths—the anger of the LORD blazed against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague. 34 So that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah (which means “graves of gluttony”) because there they buried the people who had craved meat from Egypt. 35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the Israelites traveled to Hazeroth, where they stayed for some time.

Observation

The message out of this passage for me and for you is found in verse twenty-three, “Has my arm lost its power? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!”
No matter what you and I are going through our God has not changed. His arm has not lost its power nothing is too hard for him. There is nothing impossible for Him. Write down those things that seem like impossibilities to you this morning on a piece of paper and then write across the entire page, “My God is able.”
My God is able. My God is able. My God is able.

For nothing is impossible with God." Luke 1:37

For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. Philippians 4:13

Application

For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. Philippians 4:13 (even on Mondays)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for today. Thank You for giving me the health to be able to serve You today. I pray that You give me the energy and the desire to serve You today with all my heart. Help me be Your servant today. Give me the words to say as I see people at Mission Tampa today. Give me Your thoughts as I go through this day. Help me believe that nothing is impossible for You. Help me claim Philippians 4:13 as I go through this day.

Twists and Turns of Life

Numbers 8; Numbers 9; Acts 28
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 28

30 For the next two years, Paul lived in Rome at his own expense. He welcomed all who visited him, 31 boldly proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ. And no one tried to stop him.

Observation

Paul had always planned to go to Rome. It was on his heart to go there, but he never thought that it would be as a prisoner. He was finally able to go there at the end of his life and he probably was executed in Rome thus ending his missionary career.
Life doesn’t usually go as we plan does it. There are so many things about life that are way out of our control like our health, our finances, our jobs, our friendships. But if you are a believer you can have the confidence of knowing that God charts out our path and He is in control.

Application

I will be content.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Your hand is on my life and though my life is not exactly what I thought it would be I have the joy of knowing that I am exactly where God wants me to be at the moment. Help me to stay content. I pray that I can see fruit from serving You today. I pray for people to be saved. I pray for people to repent and turn to You as we worship today. You are Mighty. You are an Awesome God. I know that nothing is too hard for You.

The Lord is My Shepherd; I Have All That I Need!

Numbers 7; Psalm 23; Acts 27
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.

Observation

Is the Lord God your Shepherd? If the Lord is your Shepherd you have all that you need … end of story.

Application

I have all that I need because the Lord is my Shepherd.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my Shepherd and I have more than I need. You have provided more than we need because You want us to share. Help me to be content and help me to stay that way. Guide me through this day so it will be profitable for Your kingdom.

So I pray to You this morning “The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.

He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close
beside me.

Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

My cup overflows with blessings.

Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.”

Importance of Blessing People

Numbers 5; Numbers 6; Psalm 22; Acts 26

Scripture

Numbers 6

24 ‘May the LORD bless you
and protect you.
25 May the LORD smile on you
and be gracious to you.
26 May the LORD show you his favor
and give you his peace.’

Observation

Do you pray a blessing on your wife or on your husband and on your children everyday? If you answered “no” then this is a good day to start. I love this blessing don’t you? May the Lord smile on you – do you think that the Lord is smiling on you today?

I try to pray a blessing on Kathy everyday before I walk out the door. It is important to give her a good bye kiss, but it is just as important, no maybe it is more important to pray a blessing on her before I leave the house. Both the kiss and the blessing should be part of your going out the door ritual.

Praying a blessing on other people is just as important because God wants to bless them and He wants us to ask Him to bless them. Go through your Bible and look at how important it was for people to bless others and look at how God responded to their prayers.

Who will you bless today? Who will receive God’s blessing because you asked God to bless them?

Application

I will pray a blessing on every person that I meet today and on every person that God brings to my mind.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, bless and protect Kathy today and all my children and grandchildren. May You smile on them and be gracious to them. Show Your favor on them and give them Your peace.

Keeping The Law of the Land

Numbers 3; Numbers 4; Acts 25
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 25

8 Paul denied the charges. “I am not guilty of any crime against the Jewish laws or the Temple or the Roman government,” he said.

Observation

Sometimes we as Christians can some times think that for some reason we are above the law. Some Christians in Haiti thought that they would take children from Haiti to the Dominican Republic even though they were breaking the law doing it. They were trying to help the children and thought that it was more important to save the children than keep the law of the land. They have had a lot of time in jail to think about that poor choice or decision.

It is easy to think that because we are working for the Lord that we can just ignore some of these man made laws, but that is not usually the case. It is important to be people of integrity and obey both God’s laws and man made laws too.

Application

I will be a person of integrity.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I do pray for those missionaries in Haiti that are still under arrest. I pray that You protect those that are still being detained, but I also pray that all of those that were arrested will understand that you can’t ignore man made laws just because you are in their country on a mission trip. I pray for those working in Haiti that You give them good success.

I believe in the resurrection of the dead…

Numbers 1; Numbers 2; Acts 24
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 24

14 “But I admit that I follow the Way, which they call a cult. I worship the God of our ancestors, and I firmly believe the Jewish law and everything written in the prophets. 15 I have the same hope in God that these men have, that he will raise both the righteous and the unrighteous. 16 Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and all people.

17 “After several years away, I returned to Jerusalem with money to aid my people and to offer sacrifices to God. 18 My accusers saw me in the Temple as I was completing a purification ceremony. There was no crowd around me and no rioting. 19 But some Jews from the province of Asia were there—and they ought to be here to bring charges if they have anything against me! 20 Ask these men here what crime the Jewish high council found me guilty of, 21 except for the one time I shouted out, ‘I am on trial before you today because I believe in the resurrection of the dead!’”

Observation

Christianity makes sense only if you believe in the resurrection of the dead! Paul says that they could charge him with that crime if they wanted to because he admitted that he was guilty of believing that the dead in Christ would some day be raised again. I believe that too! How about you?

I think it is interesting that the government officials could see that Paul had done nothing to deserve being put to death. Look at how they treated Paul they put him under house arrest and they let all of his friends come visit him and bring him food and other things. If he were a real criminal in their eyes they would not have treated him in such a way.

They only kept in jail to please the Jewish leaders. God’s hand of favor was on the life of Paul.

Application

What we believe is powerful! It is life changing! God will do mighty things in our lives because we are His children. I will expect God to do mighty things all day long today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are Mighty. There is nothing impossible for You. I believe that You are going to do life-changing things today in the lives of those around me today. You are all powerful and nothing absolutely nothing is too hard for You. Use me today to bring You glory and honor. Use our staff for Your glory. I pray for open doors into the hearts of people that I will meet and talk to today. May they be drawn closer to You.

His Hand of Favor On Us … If

Leviticus 26; Leviticus 27; Acts 23
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Leviticus 26

Blessings for Obedience

“Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the LORD your God. 2 You must keep my Sabbath days of rest and show reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.

3 “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4 I will send you the seasonal rains. The land will then yield its crops, and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. 5 Your threshing season will overlap with the grape harvest, and your grape harvest will overlap with the season of planting grain. You will eat your fill and live securely in your own land.

6 “I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear. I will rid the land of wild animals and keep your enemies out of your land. 7 In fact, you will chase down your enemies and slaughter them with your swords. 8 Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand! All your enemies will fall beneath your sword.

9 “I will look favorably upon you, making you fertile and multiplying your people. And I will fulfill my covenant with you. 10 You will have such a surplus of crops that you will need to clear out the old grain to make room for the new harvest! 11 I will live among you, and I will not despise you. 12 I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people. 13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high.

Observation

We can’t have both a life of sin and the Hand of God’s favor over us. Which do you want a life blessed by God or a life torn by sin, strife, destruction, and death? Hmmm you would think that the answer would be a no brainer, but most people choose the second choice rather than a life filled with God’s blessings. Maybe it is because they have not heard the Good News about how God wants to bless them? Maybe they have not heard how to have a personal relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ?

I am motivated every day to help people know that God wants to bless them and not harm them. He has a wonderful plan for them. He wants to save them from the life of misery that they are living. He wants to give them an abundant life full of meaning and purpose.

How are things going in your life today? Are you blessed? Do you have the Hand of God’s favor on your life today? If you are a Christ – follower then as a believer you need to keep your life free from sin. Unconfessed sin keeps us from receiving God’s blessings.

If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Psalm 66:18-19

Application

I will keep my sins confessed up and I will share the Good News as I have the opportunity today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I want Your hand of favor on my life. I do not want to live with unconfessed sin in my life because I know that You will not hear my prayers and I will miss out on the blessings that You have planned for me to enjoy. I trust You with my life and I know that a life that receives Your favor is far better than what sin with its momentary pleasure can provide. Keep me away from sin. Protect me today. Help me move people closer to You and away from sin and destruction.

Scripture

Psalm 25

4 Show me the right path, O LORD;
point out the road for me to follow.
5 Lead me by your truth and teach me,
for you are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.

Observation

Do you ever need God’s direction in your life? Do you need to know what road to follow? David has reached a place where he needs for God to show him the next step. He needs direction in his life. I feel like that today. And I like David am turning to the Lord this morning and asking Him to show me.

Application

Show me, point me, and lead me in the right direction is what I am asking God to do today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, this is my prayer to You this morning, “Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Amen.

Who is The King of Glory?

Leviticus 23; Leviticus 24; Psalm 24; Acts 21
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 24

7 Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
8 Who is the King of glory?
The LORD, strong and mighty;
the LORD, invincible in battle.
9 Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors,
and let the King of glory enter.
10 Who is the King of glory?
The LORD of Heaven’s Armies—
he is the King of glory.

Observation

The Lord is a Warrior God. Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies – He is the King of glory. One day the King of glory will return and when He returns He will return as a Warrior King. He will defeat evil and all those that belong to Him will be with Him forever. He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
Jesus came the first time to this earth as a babe in a manger, but when He returns the second time He will return as a Warrior. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will return and will have the final victory.

Are you ready for His return? Do you belong to Him? Have you ever asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins? Have you ever asked Jesus to save you? Is He your Lord and Savior? These are important questions for which you need to have a good answer. He is returning soon. Are you ready?

Application

I will praise Him today. It is a day to worship Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, today is Your day. It is our Sabbath. It is a day to please You by giving You our time, our attention, all of our hearts. Help me to do just that today. As I go to church may it be a special time of worship between You and Your people. I want to concentrate on worshiping You today. I pray that the distractions would not take away my focus. I pray that nothing would keep me from worshiping You. You are my King. You are worthy of worship and worthy of praise.

We Are To Be Examples!

Leviticus 20; Leviticus 21; Leviticus 22; Acts 20
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 20

28 “So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.

Observation

It is our job to protect God’s people. It is our job to feed and shepherd God’s flock – his church. Why is it such an important job – because his church was blood bought, purchased with his own blood.

So we have been appointed elders over the flock of God. Paul says that those that are elders need to set the example.

33 “I have never coveted anyone’s silver or gold or fine clothes. 34 You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me. 35 And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Application

I will strive to be an example for those that I am over in the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me be a constant example just like Paul was to all the churches that he started and that he shepherded. Help me to think more about others than I do about myself. Give me a generous heart. Help me not to covet what others have and help me to be content with all that You have given me.

I Will Sing

Scripture

Psalm 13

5 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

6 I will sing to the LORD
because he is good to me.

Observation

I love to sing to the Lord even though I sound terrible! How about you? The writer of this Psalm says that because God has rescued him he will rejoice and sing. I think I need to just rejoice and sing today because He has rescued me too.

Application

I will sing today and I will lift Him up. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, put a song in my heart that I can sing to You. I rejoice because I have been rescued by Your unfailing love. I trust in You. I pray for those that are in our prisons today. I pray that chaplains and other Christians working in our jails and prisons will set some of those prisoners free today. I pray that some of them will be rescued from a life of sin and destruction.

Don’t Be Afraid!

Leviticus 15; Leviticus 16; Leviticus 17; Acts 18
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 18

9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent! 10 For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.”

Observation

Fear not…Don’t be afraid are two phrases that are repeated hundreds of times in your Bible and in my Bible. I think that there are over 300 hundred “Fear Nots” for us in scripture. Why so many reminders because we tend to be afraid. All fear is simply a lack of faith. God says, “Don’t be afraid”.

What brings you fear today? Maybe you are afraid because you have a sickness or disease or someone close to you is sick or maybe someone is close to death and you don’t want to lose him or her. It could be that you are about to lose your job or maybe you have already lost your job and now are about to lose your home. Whatever your situation is God still says, “Don’t be afraid.” He is with you. Well He is with you if you are putting Him first in your life…if He is not Lord of your life then I would say that you better be afraid. I would not want to live one day outside of the protection of my loving Heavenly Father. He is with me today.

Application

I will not be afraid. I will trust God today with everything that is coming my way.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to see Your hand in everything that happens today. When I am afraid I pray that You remind me that You are with me and I do not need to fear anything. Thank You for promising to take care of me. Thank You that You are constantly working in my life. I pray that You give me strength in the areas where I always tend to have doubts and fears. I pray today for my family. I pray that You protect them. I pray that You heal those in my family that are sick. You are the Great Healer. I put my trust and my faith in You to work miracles in the lives of those that I love. Thank You for taking such good care of me.

Purpose For The Nations

Leviticus 13; Leviticus 14; Acts 17
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 17

24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. 26 From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries.

27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ 29 And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.

30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. 31 For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.”

Observation

Why do we have so many countries, so many nations? What is God’s purpose for the many nations? We find the answer to that question in verse twenty-seven, “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.” That is what God wants every nation to do He wants them to seek Him.

Is there a nation on the face of this earth today that is seeking Him? Good question and I don’t have the answer but it does make us think about our own country. I know that God would bless our country if we would repent and turn to Him.

Application

I will pray for our nation and for the leaders of our country.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for our president today. I pray that You give him wisdom to be able to lead us. I pray that You surround him with godly counsel and I pray that we would move closer to You today as a nation. You want to bless us. You want to bless every nation and if they would repent and turn to You I know that You would meet all of their needs.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14

Set Free!

Leviticus 10; Leviticus 11; Leviticus 12; Acts 16
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 16

22 A mob quickly formed against Paul and Silas, and the city officials ordered them stripped and beaten with wooden rods. 23 They were severely beaten, and then they were thrown into prison. The jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape. 24 So the jailer put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks.

25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. 26 Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! 27 The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. 28 But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!”

29 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” 32 And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household. 33 Even at that hour of the night, the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds. Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized. 34 He brought them into his house and set a meal before them, and he and his entire household rejoiced because they all believed in God.

Observation

God allowed Paul and Silas to be thrown into jail so the jailor could be set free! It was the jailor that was the prisoner in that jail that night not Paul and Silas. At midnight after being beaten and placed in the darkest most inner part of the jail and having their feet placed in stocks so they couldn’t even walk around Paul and Silas began to pray and they began to sing. The other prisoners heard them singing and praying and I am sure that so did the jailor.

The whole story is amazing. When the earthquake opened up the jail why didn’t the other prisoners leave? I believe that they knew that the earthquake was God working to set Paul and Silas free, but they were wrong. It was to set the jailor free. Paul and Silas were not set free by the earthquake. They remained in jail.

Of course after the earthquake they had the opportunity to share with the jailor and his entire household and they became believers. They were all set free. After a night of preaching and baptizing and celebrating with the jailor and his family Paul and Silas returned to their jail cell.

I bet they were not placed back into the inner most part of the jail and I bet their feet were not clamped when they returned to the jail. And I believe that the other prisoners had the chance to hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ that night.

Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into a jail cell so that a jailor and his family could find a Savior. This is one of the most powerful stories in the Bible. I love it.

Application

I will share this story with someone that is in jail. I am just happening to be going to the Faulkenberg jail today to see someone. How neat is that!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I love this story. It is all about You and Your love for us. You love all of us. Those that are in prison and those that work in the prison are all loved by You just the same. I pray for the chaplains today that work in our prison systems. Give them the desires of their hearts, answer their prayers and make their plans successful.

I pray for those that are in jail that they may hear about the Good News of Jesus Christ and I pray that they be set free set free from sin and then later set free to be able to live for You and not for themselves. I pray for revival. I pray for revival in our church, in our prison systems, and in our country. You are mighty. You are powerful. You are worthy of praise.

Undeserved Grace

Leviticus 7; Leviticus 8; Leviticus 9; Acts 15
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 15

11 We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”

Observation

God’s grace is undeserved. We deserve to go to Hell. I guess using the word undeserved in front of the word grace give double emphasis to the fact that we can’t earn or do anything to merit going to Heaven and we can’t save ourselves no matter how hard we try.

In a couple of hours I will be talking to people at Mission Tampa and I will ask them about their relationship with God and almost all of them will reply that they think that God will let them into Heaven because of their goodness. About 99% of the people I talk to today at Mission Tampa will think that they can do good stuff and by doing more good stuff than bad God is going to let them into Heaven.

Most people in this world believe that by their own goodness they can be saved. If you don’t believe me then just ask them this question, “If you were standing at Heaven’s gate and God asked you, ‘why should I let you into My Heaven what would you say?” Most people will reply with a works answer or in other words they will say that God is going to let them in because of something they have done.

They are spiritually blinded. Pray for them. Pray that God would open their spiritual eyes so they can be saved.

Application

I will pray for those that think works will save them and I will ask God to open up their spiritual eyes so they can be saved.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that most people are blinded spiritually and they do not realize that they are lost and are going to Hell because they don’t have a personal relationship with You. I pray for people to be saved today at Mission Tampa. I pray that You would open up their eyes so they can see You and that they can understand the Gospel message.

Hardship – Count On It!

Leviticus 4; Leviticus 5; Leviticus 6; Acts 14
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 14

21 After preaching the Good News in Derbe and making many disciples, Paul and Barnabas returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch of Pisidia, 22 where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. 23 Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. 24 Then they traveled back through Pisidia to Pamphylia. 25 They preached the word in Perga, then went down to Attalia.

Observation

The Kingdom of God is all around us but we will suffer many hardships to enter into it. I realize that life is not simple and I know that life is not easy. We sometimes think that life should get easier for us as we get older, but just the opposite is true. Life was so much easier when we were younger.

When you give your life to Christ you are entering into a life that is both very difficult and very rewarding. It is an abundant life but that does not mean that is pain free and without suffering. In this passage Paul is stoned by the people and left for dead outside the city. I wonder what the people thought when he got up and came back into that city the next day. Wow!

Have you read how many times Paul was beaten, thrown in prison, and experienced suffering? It is a long list. Compared to Paul I don’t even have a list!

Application

What was the key to Paul’s life? I think the key to his spiritual success is found in verse twenty-three “prayer and fasting”. I will pray and fast.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to understand how Your kingdom works. I want to experience Your power like Paul did. I am not excited about the suffering part of the Christian life, but I know that it goes with our calling. I pray today that You do some incredible things within our church family. I pray that You help us be the church that You want us to be. I pray that You provide us laborers for the harvest. I pray that You raise up leaders within our church. I pray for people to be saved. I pray that You bless our people. I pray for those that are dealing with addictions I pray that You set them free.

To The Farthest Corners of The Earth

Leviticus 1; Leviticus 2; Leviticus 3; Acts 13
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 13

47 For the Lord gave us this command when he said,
‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles,
to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’”

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers. 49 So the Lord’s message spread throughout that region.

Observation

It is in our DNA to take the Gospel everywhere. It is who we are as Christ-Followers! I like verse forty-eight where it says, “When the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message.” I am a gentile (non Jew) and I am very glad that the Good News of Christ’s love and Christ’s forgiveness reached me. Now it is my job to take it to other people around my neighborhood and around the world.

Application

I will work on the upcoming mission trips to make them as successful as possible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us as we go through redefining who we are as your church. Thank You for putting the message of the Good News in our DNA. It is who we are and we have to be faithful in sharing our faith. Give our people energy and the desire to do Your will. Help them reach their neighbors and friends and help them to invite them to church. Help me model what I want our church to do and be. Keep me focused on the things that count for Your kingdom. I pray for people to be saved. I pray for people to be added to our church. I pray for workers for the harvest.

Glory…Only God Should Receive It

Exodus 39; Exodus 40; Psalm 15; Acts 12
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 12

23 Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.

Observation

Does it matter who gets the glory? You bet it does and God takes this very seriously. Government leaders better watch out because God is the one that has allowed them to be in the position that they are in and He can instantly take them out.

Some of the evil leaders it seems to me should have been taken out long ago. I wonder why Fidel Castro and his family have been able to keep the island of Cuba hostage for so long. Why hasn’t God instantly changed the leadership in that country? There are other countries with the same kind of leadership and yet God allows them to stay in power…why? Don’t worry, even though we don’t know why God allows them to remain in leadership it must be according to His overall plan. We know that in one swift swipe He could instantly take them all out and one day He will do just that. I don’t think we will ever understand it this side of Heaven but one day all of this will get straightened out.

When those leaders cross the line and God somehow quits receiving the glory that God should receive then instantly it is all over for them…instantly.

Application

I will pray for our president that God would give him wisdom to lead our country and that he would be humble and seek God’s face.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is no little thing to pray for our president. You have told us in your word to pray for those in authority and today I pray for our president. Surround him with men and women that will help him make wise decisions. I pray that he would seek Your face today. Speak to him in dreams and visions and turn his heart to the things that will bring You glory and that will bring You honor. Don’t let him lead our country in the wrong direction. All glory and honor belongs to You. You alone are worthy of our praise.

Keep Me From Deliberate Sins

Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 19

12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart?
Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins!
Don’t let them control me.
Then I will be free of guilt
and innocent of great sin.
14 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be pleasing to you,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Observation

Don’t let deliberate sins control me. May the words of my mouth and what I am thinking about in my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
What have you been thinking about? Would your thoughts be pleasing to God? Would my thoughts be pleasing to Him?

Application

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” I will call on the Lord today and I will wait expectantly for an answer.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am calling on You today for help. You know what I have been thinking about since very early this morning. Give me wisdom to lead Your people. Help us know what steps to take as we seek to be Your church. I pray that You help us. I pray that You raise up godly leaders that will be willing to follow You and make changes that will help us be the church that You want us to be.

Ordered To Preach The Gospel

Exodus 35; Exodus 36; Acts 10
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 10

42 And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”

Observation

Preach the Good News! It is an order it is not a recommendation or a request. If you are a Christ Follower you have been given orders – Preach the Good News that Jesus saves to “all” the world. Preach the Good News to every people group until every person has the opportunity to hear.

Application

I will look for the opportunity to preach/share the Good News to someone today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that you send me to a Cornelius like you did Peter. Help me see opportunities. Don’t let me pass someone by today that needs to know You.

I Will Not Be Shaken

Exodus 33; Exodus 34; Psalm 16; Acts 9
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Psalm 16

7 I will bless the LORD who guides me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
8 I know the LORD is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

Observation

The Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Where is your God? My God is right beside me I will not be shaken. This is a great verse for a Monday. I am reading one day ahead so this actually won’t be put on my life journal blog until Tuesday, but it is still a great Monday passage. The whole chapter is great encouragement to us that follow Christ. What God did in the life of Saul of Tarsus in Acts 9 was also huge and should encourage you and me today! He is an awesome God.

Application

I am not facing this Monday alone. The Lord is right beside me. He will walk through this day right by my side. I will not be shaken.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for always being right beside me. I can trust in You. You love me and You will take care of me. I will not be shaken. Help me to remember this passage as I go through this day. Direct my path today because I don’t want to miss anything. You are an awesome God. You are worthy of praise. Thank You for walking right beside me today and not just today I know that You will always take care of me. I pray for my family. I pray that each one of my children and my grandchildren and my extended family I pray that they would have the privilege of knowing You like I know You.

The Good News about Jesus.

Exodus 30; Exodus 31; Exodus 32; Acts 8
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Scripture

Acts 8

26 As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

29 The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.”
30 Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

31 The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.

32 The passage of Scripture he had been reading was this:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter.
And as a lamb is silent before the shearers,
he did not open his mouth.

33 He was humiliated and received no justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth.”

34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, was the prophet talking about himself or someone else?” 35 So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus.

Observation

Have you heard the Good News? Have you heard the Good News about Jesus? There is no greater news than the Good News about Jesus. He loves you. He died on a cross in your place. He died for your sins and for my sins. He paid the penalty for your sins and my sins with His death on the cross. He was buried but on the third day He came back to life. He is alive today. He is coming again. Everyone that puts his or her trust in Him will spend eternity with Him in Heaven and that my friend is the Good News about Jesus.

Have you had a chance to respond to the Good News about Jesus? Have you invited Him into your life as your Lord and as your Savior? There is more good news and that good news is that you can pray and ask Him to save you today.

Application

I will share this Good News with someone today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that salvation will come to many lives today as your people gather to worship. Give people a clear understanding of the Gospel today. I pray for the people of Haiti today that through this tragedy many thousands of Haitians will be saved. I pray for revival for nation of Haiti.
