Do Everything With Love

Scripture

1 Corinthians 16

13 Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. 14 And do everything with love.

Observation

One day I want to count how many times in scripture we are exhorted to be courageous and to be strong. If we have to be reminded over and over again about something then I believe it is because we normally tend to do just the opposite.

We are also exhorted over and over again in scripture to do everything with love. So our natural bent would be to not love each other and to not do everything with love.

So today, "be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love."

Application

I will strive to do everything with love today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be strong and courageous. Help me to be on my guard. Help me to stand firm and do everything today with love. You are the Mighty King. You are worthy of all praise!

Always Work Enthusiastically For The Lord

Scripture

1 Corinthians 15

58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Observation

Always...Did you hear what Paul said, He said, "Always work enthusiastically for the Lord." And why should we do that, we should do that because nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

So how will you serve the Lord today? How will I serve him?

Application

I will serve the Lord today enthusiastically. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me energy for this day. I want to serve You this entire day with enthusiasm and joy. It is my desire to serve You with all my heart today. Don't let me do anything else. Don't let me lose my enthusiasm for serving You. Help me to finish well.

Mighty Hero!

Mighty Hero!

Scripture

Judges 6

12 The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

Observation

Deep down inside of you is a "mighty hero" if you will let Jesus Christ be Lord of your life. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I can do all things with Christ who strengthens me.

Is there a "mighty hero" lurking deep inside of you this morning? God plus you makes a majority.

If God is for you then who can be against you.

We are just like Gideon and we don't believe what God has promised us. God has given those that are in Christ all spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms. We don't lack one thing. We are equipped to be "mighty heroes".

God has already given us the victory. We are fighting a battle, but we already know that we are the winners.

So as you face today, I hope you remember these words as you go out to battle, "Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

Application

In humility, I accept the fact that I am a "mighty hero" and I go out in confidence knowing that today's battles have already been won.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be brave today as I face opposition, and as I go up against the challenges of the enemy. Don't let me give him any ground today. Don't let me sin. Keep me in the battle. I want to be a "mighty hero" for You today. You are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Nothing is too hard for You.

My Hope Is In You

Judges 4; Judges 5; Psalm 39; Psalm 41; 1 Corinthians 13

My Hope Is In You

Scripture

Psalm 39

7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.

Observation

A pastor friend of mine that used to meet with us every Wednesday moved a couple of years ago to the state of Louisiana. I meet with a group of pastors every Wednesday and we have been meeting together for probably over the last five or six years or maybe even longer than that. We pray together and we have become very good friends.

This pastor that moved away took his own life a few months ago. It shocked us. Why did it happen? We don't know and we probably never will know why he became so desperate, but we feel pretty certain that he wasn't meeting with a group of pastors like he was doing when he was part of our group. We might have been able to help him deal with the impossible issue that drove him to do what he did.

Life is tough.

Where do you put your hope? Let me encourage you to follow the example of the Psalmist and put your hope in the Lord. When you hit the wall and when life seems totally impossible and there appears to be no hope, then think of Psalm 39:7 "And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you."

When you want to end it all. When you want to quit. When you get to the point where you think it is totally hopeless always remember that there is always hope. The situation is never hopeless. You can always put your hope and trust in the Lord.

Application

I will put my hope in the Lord today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, don't let me ever get to the point where I think the situation is hopeless. I pray that I always will be able to turn to You. Don't ever let me get to the point where I am not trusting in You and in You alone. Don't let me mess up to the point where things seem totally hopeless. I pray for people that may find themselves in that situation today. I thank You for the pastors that I meet with every Wednesday. Bless them today. Use them in their churches. Bless their wives and their families. Give them hope today. Give them energy to do Your will. Bless them with good things today. You are Wonderful. You are a Mighty God.

How Did He Do That?

How Did He Do That?

Scripture

Judges 3

31 After Ehud, Shamgar son of Anath rescued Israel. He once killed 600 Philistines with an ox goad.

Observation

Have you ever wondered how a man like Shamgar was able to kill 600 Philistines with an ox goad? Do you even know what an ox goad is? This is the only place in the Bible where it is mentioned. It looked like a spear or a staff with a point on it.
How was he able to do that? Why couldn't they kill him? Couldn't they have attacked him with so many that he could have been defeated. How did Samson do what he did? The answer: God was with him. God was with Shamgar.

If God is for us who can be against us. And if God is not for us we are in big trouble. Reading Judges shows us how important it is to have God fighting on our side. They had it made if they would have just obeyed the Lord. He would have fought their battles for them and He would have driven their enemies from the land but they refused to obey.

God raises up heroes over and over again and He delivers His people over and over again because He loves them. Today He does the same thing. He raises up heroes and He rescues His people.

Application

I will obey the Lord today. I want to cause Him to smile. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is my desire to be a Joshua or an Ehud or a Shamgar. I want to be someone that rescues and not someone that needs to be rescued. Keep me from sin today. Help me focus on You and Your desires for the people I see today. I pray for my sister that you give her a good visit and refresh her spirit and give her a good rest from taking care of Jonathan so faithfully. I pray for Jonathan today. I pray that You touch him with Your healing power.

It is Our Choice!

Scripture

Joshua 24

15 "...But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Observation

Joshua is 110 years old when he made this declaration. He was getting ready to die. He lived his whole life totally committed to the Lord. How are you doing with your commitment to the Lord? Do you need to make that commitment all over again or live up to the commitment that you made years ago? Is Jesus Christ both Lord and Savior of your life?

I want to finish well. I don't want to mess up. I don't want to fall into sin and mess up my life. What about you? Lets finish well!

Application

I desire to serve the Lord and I want to die serving Him. I don't ever want to mess up and do something stupid that would take me out of His service.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to serve You with all my heart and all my soul. Don't let me mess up and miss all the things that You have in store for us in Heaven. I don't want to miss any rewards that You have stored up for me. I want to serve You until I die. In fact, I want to die serving You some where in this world where the Gospel needs to be preached.

Clap Your Hands and Shout

Scripture

Psalm 47

1 Come, everyone! Clap your hands!
Shout to God with joyful praise!
2 For the Lord Most High is awesome.
He is the great King of all the earth.

Observation

Kathy and I went to a Chris Tomlin concert last night and the entire place was on their feet clapping, waving, and lifting their hands, and singing for the entire 3 hours. It was awesome!

I woke up this morning with songs going around and around in my head that we sang last night. It is awesome. It was a night of praise and worship for me. So when was the last time that you clapped your hands and shouted to God with joyful praise? Why not do it today. Why? Because our God is an awesome God and He is the great King of all the earth!

Application

I will continue to sing and shout to my God all day today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are awesome. You are Faithful. You are Wonderful. You are the great King of all the earth.

So Run To Win!

So Run To Win!

Scripture

1 Corinthians 9

22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Observation

Do you have purpose in what you are doing today? Are you running to win? Are you becoming all things to all men so that you might win some?
Purpose and meaning to life can be found when we focus on bringing others to a relationship with Christ.

Application

I will focus on the needs of others today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me. I know that You saved me so that I could share the Good News with others. Help me to become all things to all men so that I might save some.

Be Careful!

Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Be Careful!

Scripture

1 Corinthians 8

9 But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble.

Observation

Our freedom should not cause other people to stumble. Not everyone is as strong as maybe you are so you need to be careful in those grey areas of life where what you are doing may not be a sin for you, but if someone else does it they will be sinning.

Probably the best example of this in our crazy culture would be drinking alcohol. You may take a drink now and then and for you it is perfectly OK, but your taking a drink in front of a weaker brother or sister may cause them to sin because they believe that if they take a drink that they would be sinning.
Maybe watching a certain movie might be another example when watching it could cause a weaker brother to sin in the area of sexual immorality.

Application

I will be careful not to cause a brother to sin because of what I am doing.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me guide others to a closer relationship with You. Don't let me lead anyone away from You by allowing me to do something that offends a weaker brother or sister in Christ. Help me to keep my eyes focused on what is good. Don't let me drift to things that would only bring me harm and that would hurt others too. Guide me through this day as I seek to walk close to You.

Slave of Christ

Scripture

1 Corinthians 7

"...And if you were free when the Lord called you, you are now a slave of Christ. 23 God paid a high price for you, so don’t be enslaved by the world."

Observation

As Christ Followers we have been set free from the bondage of sin, and have become slaves of Christ. Have you ever thought what a good thing being a slave of Christ really is?

A slave had to totally depend on his master for food, clothing, protection, for housing etc. and if the slave had a good owner then he or she had it pretty good. All he or she had to do was fulfill the wishes of their master and they didn't have to worry about life because everything they needed was provided for them. We are slaves of Christ. We are His property. We were bought with a very high price. Our owner paid dearly for us. So we have it made. He takes care of us completely. Our job is to serve Him wholeheartedly and He will provide for every need we have.

Application

I will commit my life to serving Jesus and I will let Him take care of the needs of my life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, because You are my Shepherd I have everything that I need. I lack nothing. Thank You for blessing me so much. Thank You for providing me with everything good thing. You are an Awesome God. Nothing is too hard for You.

Bought With A High Price

Scripture

1 Corinthians 6

18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

Observation

You and I have been bought with a high price so we must honor God with our bodies. Are you involved in sexual sin? Are you looking at stuff on the internet that you know you shouldn't? Run...Run...Run...from sexual sin. Sexual immorality is a sin against your own body and it will mess you up and it will mess up all of your relationships with others that you love. Run.

Application

I will guard myself from sexual sin.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, keep me from sexual sin. Guard my heart. Protect my eyes. Don't let me focus on things that cause me to sin. Help me to walk in victory today. I pray for the men and women of our church I pray that they would walk in victory today and not fall into the trap of sexual immorality.

Unbelievers

Scripture

1 Corinthians 5

9 When I wrote to you before, I told you not to associate with people who indulge in sexual sin. 10 But I wasn’t talking about unbelievers who indulge in sexual sin, or are greedy, or cheat people, or worship idols. You would have to leave this world to avoid people like that.

Observation

I believe that we sometimes think that unbelievers should act like believers and we have expectations for them that are not at all realistic. We should have expectations for those that claim to be Christ followers and they should not be involved in the sins of the world like those that don't know Christ.
We get this all mixed up. Unbelievers can't help the way they act because they do not have God's Holy Spirit living within them to help them. But we (Christians) have no excuse because we have Christ living within us.

There should be a huge difference in the way we act and behave and the way unbelievers act and behave.

Application

I will spend time this week with someone that needs Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, direct me to someone that is open to the Gospel. Lead me to the right person that I can invest my time in so they can come to know You. Help us today please You with our actions as we go out to Feed the City.

Build Them Up!

Scripture

1 Corinthians 4

20 For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power

Observation

It is walking the walk and not talking the talk that counts with God. Are you living by God's power today? Am I?

Paul warns us not to be proud of one leader at the expense of another. This is a very good word for us that serve in large churches or even medium size churches that have several pastors. The leaders of the church are simply servants and they are not to be elevated to something other than that. Lets try to lift all of our leaders up and not put anybody down.

Lets build them up. Lets live by God's power this week.

Application

I will lift up those that are in leadership this week that are in my church and that are in my association.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me build people up this week and not tear anybody down. Help me to be an encouragement to someone this week that needs to be lifted up. You are an Awesome God. Nothing is too hard for You.

Give God a Reason to Smile Today

Scripture

Psalm 37

23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.

Observation

Can you think about God delighting in every detail of your life? The God of this Universe delights in those that live and walk with Him. To think that you and I can bring delight to the One that created us is totally amazing. I love it. God is so good. Psalm 37 is one of my favorite passages in all of scripture. It is filled with God's promises concerning us and it shows how God feels about us. Even as sinful as we are we can bring a smile to God's face. He delights in us when we walk close to Him.

Application

I will stay away from sin today so that I can bring a smile to God's face. I will reflect on Psalm 37 today and all it says to me about God's love for me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me today please You with the way I live and the way I think. I pray that You guide me and direct my thoughts and my actions. Thank You for giving me another year of life and another year of good health. You are Wonderful. You are the Mighty God. You are my Savior.

Application

I will enjoy this passage today. And I will thank God for being so wonderful to me. How about you?

Prayer

The Key To Life

The Key To Life

Scripture

Deuteronomy 30

19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Observation

"Loving the Lord your God, obeying Him, and committing yourself firmly to Him, this is the Key to your Life." Hello...do I need to repeat this or did you get it. If you are going through life all depressed and wondering what life is all about here is your answer. You were created for a relationship with God. He made you to bless you, but He can't bless you unless you choose to love, obey, and commit yourself to Him. It is as simple as that. Will you make the choice between life and death today? I hope that you choose life. I hope that you choose to be blessed rather than cursed. It is up to you. What are you going to do?

Application

I will continue to challenge men and women to make the life or death decision and I will pray for them that they choose "life".

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that Your plan includes all of my family and friends. You saved me for a reason and it was for me to influence my friends. I pray that the people in my life would make the right choice and that they would choose life. Turn their hearts towards you. I pray for their salvation. I pray that they would continue being drawn closer to You each and every day. I pray that Your hand would continue to stay on our church family and that our church would continue to reach out to our city.

The Cross of Christ Alone Can Save

Deuteronomy 28; Deuteronomy 29; Galatians 6

The Cross of Christ Alone Can Save

Scripture

Galatians 6

12 Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save.

14 As for me, may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of that cross,[c] my interest in this world has been crucified, and the world’s interest in me has also died. 15 It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation. 16 May God’s peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle; they are the new people of God.

Observation

Not by works which we have done but by the cross of Christ alone are we saved. Do you believe that statement? Are you trusting in works to save you? Yesterday at Mission Tampa so many of those that I talked to even those that claimed to be Christians talked about the need to do something rather than being saved by the cross of Jesus Christ.

If the first thing out of someone's mouth is a works answer to a question about their salvation then I certainly question whether they understand God's plan of redemption at all. They are religious, but have never trusted in the cross of Christ for their salvation. I sometimes wonder if they have ever heard the Gospel at all, but I know that they have heard but are not able to understand its meaning. It never penetrates and changes their hearts.

Application

I will continue to pray that God opens the eyes and ears of the people that come to Mission Tampa for help and I will continue to pray that God opens up the hearts and ears of those that attend Christ Fellowship on Sunday.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, open the eyes and spiritual ears of those that attend our church and those that come to Mission Tampa for help.

What is Really Important?

Deuteronomy 25; Deuteronomy 26; Deuteronomy 27; Galatians 5
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

What is Really Important?

Scripture

Galatians 5

14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Observation

We had just read a few weeks ago or maybe it was even just last week that the two greatest commandments in the Bible were, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself." Now Paul is summing up the entire law with the one statement, Love your neighbor as yourself." I think we have come across something very important in the word of God. We need to burn these verses into our very being.

Paul says that our natural tendency is to default to just the opposite kind of behavior. Our old nature is ugly and produces all kinds of bad stuff like: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these."

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

He also says that for believers we always have a battle going on between our two natures.

Application

I will spend time with the Lord so the fruit of the Spirit would win today's battle.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I want the fruit of Your Holy Spirit to be revealed through my life today.

Children of The Promise!

Scripture

Galatians 4

6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.
28 And you, dear brothers and sisters, are children of the promise, just like Isaac.

Observation

What would it be like for you if you were born into a royal family and had a king for a father? Well if you have been born again then that is exactly what has happened to you. You are the child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. You are royalty. So act like it!

If you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ then you are a child of the promise, just like Isaac. Wow! Think about that!

Application

I will act like a King's kid today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for adopting me into Your family. I don't deserve it, but I am sure glad to be royalty. I know that all spiritual blessings are mine in Christ Jesus. Thank You for loving me and allowing me to have a place in Your kingdom. Freedom ...Through Christ

Scripture

Galatians 3

22 But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.

Observation

I have just spent a week in a country where the people's freedom has been limited in many ways by the government, but one freedom that they can't take away is the freedom that comes from knowing Christ!

So many of the people on the island have been set free and it doesn't matter what personal freedoms may be missing they have the most important thing...freedom from the slavery of sin. Praise God!

Application

Freedom always comes at a high price. Our freedom from the slavery of sin came at the cost of God's only Son. He has set me free. I will not let sin reign in my life today because I have been set free.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for setting me free from the bondage of sin. I am no longer a slave to sin. I am a slave of Christ.

Slave Of Christ - R U Ready For Leadership

Scripture

Mark 10

43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Observation

If you want to be a true leader in the Kingdom of God then you must become a slave to those around you. Ouch!

Application

I will act like I am a slave of Christ today and I will be willing to do whatever He leads me to do.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, since we don’t live in a society that has slaves I don’t think I fully understand what it means to be a slave of Christ. It is my desire to live today totally committed to serving You. Whatever You say to me I want to be able to do. Help me do just that today. Help me to hear Your voice and be obedient.

What Do You Mean, "If I Can"?

Scripture

Mark 9

23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”

24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

Observation

Here is a reminder for us today. There is not anything too hard for Jesus Christ. We need help with our unbelief. The problem is not whether God is able, because He is very able. The problem lies with our lack of faith. Here is my memory verse for this week, "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance." I Cor. 13:7

Application

I will believe that anything is possible through Christ. I will never give up. I will not lose faith. I will always be hopeful. I will endure through every circumstance.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help my unbelief. Give me the faith that this father had. Give me faith for every circumstance that comes my way today.

Is Anything Worth More Than Your Soul?

Scripture

Mark 8

36 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? 37 Is anything worth more than your soul?

Observation

I was at the hospital bed side of one of our older church members who is close to death. He was surrounded by his sons and daughter and his daughter in laws. Even in his condition he was able to laugh and joke with us about some of the family stories that we being told. He has everything he needs. He is blessed.
His relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ is solid and he is walking through this valley hand in hand with His Savior. The Lord is his Shepherd, he lacks nothing.

I pray that my life reveals the same character strengths when I am put to the ultimate test and close to death.

Application

I will slow down today to show kindness to someone.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me keep the main thing the main thing. Thank You for what You are doing in our church. Thank You for the lives that are being changed. I pray for my friend Paris that is close to death. I pray that You would wrap him in Your arms. I pray that you would give his wife, sons and daughter strength and give them the spiritual insight they need to walk through this difficult time.
