If God Says It You Better Believe It!

Scripture

Ezekiel 12

25 a For I am the Lord! If I say it, it will happen.

Observation

There is the idea that what God warns us about in scripture will not happen to us, but that those terrible things will happen later to someone else. We can sometimes think that we will not experience God's wrath or God's punishment. Ezekiel was God's prophet and even though God didn't destroy him, Ezekiel still had to suffer because of the sins of the nation of Israel. You and I will have to suffer because of the sins of our nation too.

The sins of other people also damage our lives. When someone sins there is always consequences that extend to those close to that person. It might be someone getting drunk and getting arrested. That person then is dependent on everyone else to get them to work or to the store because they are no longer allowed to drive. It is no different with any other sin.

If God says it, He will do it – count on it. It will happen. God says in His word, “Be sure that your sin will find you out” you can count on it – it will happen!

Application

I will keep my sins confessed up.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I believe that You will do everything that You promise in Your word. I believe that You bless just like You promise and I believe that You will punish just like You promise. You always keep Your word. Help me to walk close to You today. It is my desire to please You in everything that I do.

You Are Worthy!

Scripture

Revelation 4

11 “You are worthy, O Lord our God,
to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created all things,
and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

Observation

He created what He pleased. He created you. He created me.
What He wants is to receive glory and honor from all that He created. It my job and your job to bring Him glory. It is our main task in life. How are you doing? How am I doing?

Things exist because God created them. It is the only reason that they exist.

Application

I will seek to please Him today with my life.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me think of ways to please You. It was what I was created for. Show me how to bring You glory and honor. You are all powerful. Nothing is too hard for You.

Fellowship!

Ezekiel 4; Ezekiel 5; Ezekiel 6; Ezekiel 7; Revelation 3

Fellowship!

Scripture

Revelation 3

19 I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. 21 Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.

Observation

God wants us to live under His authority so we can have fellowship with Him. If we are rebellious then there can be no fellowship only discipline. If He disciplines us as His children then it is for our good so our relationship can be restored with Him.

If we are not His children then all we can do is live in rebellion to Him and what we will receive is His punishment and we will die in our sins. How stupid people are that refuse to acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior! How sad and how stupid, but how very common too.

It is better to open the door of your heart and let Him in and enjoy fellowship with Him. Don't you think?

Application

I will share this passage at Mission Tampa this morning.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me bring You glory today. I look forward to this week. It seems a bit overwhelming, but You are a Mighty God and You can help me soar through each day no matter how challenging. I open the door of my heart to You this morning. It is my desire to have sweet fellowship with You . Don't let me sin and mess up today. I pray that You direct my every move today. Help me to bring You glory.

A Peek Into Heaven

Ezekiel 1; Ezekiel 2; Ezekiel 3; Revelation 2
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

A Peek Into Heaven

Scripture

Ezekiel 1

26 Above this surface was something that looked like a throne made of blue lapis lazuli. And on this throne high above was a figure whose appearance resembled a man. 27 From what appeared to be his waist up, he looked like gleaming amber, flickering like a fire. And from his waist down, he looked like a burning flame, shining with splendor. 28 All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the Lord looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.

Observation

Here is a look into Heaven at the throne of Jesus from the book of Ezekiel. Compare it with the book of Revelation and I think you will find it just about the same. Ezekiel had the chance to peek into Heaven just like John had the chance to do. We get to enjoy their descriptions of what they saw.

God through His word has allowed me to also get a glimpse of Heaven. I can read about it any time that I want because of their descriptions. Glory...is the word that best describes what Ezekiel saw. God in all His glory. Jesus in all His glory.
And to think that the God of glory cares about us … that thought is just amazing. Think about that for awhile today.

Application

I will thank the Lord today for my salvation. I am grateful that God has redeemed me and has snatched me out of the traps of the Devil.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me not be stubborn and hard headed. I want to be teachable and open to Your correction. Guide me today. Help me please You with my actions and my attitude. Let me serve You today in a way that brings You a smile.

Don't Be Afraid!

Jeremiah 52; Revelation 1; Psalm 143; Psalm 144

Don't Be Afraid!

Scripture

Revelation 1

17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

Observation

“Don't be afraid” is a phrase that the Lord uses over and over in scripture. We are commanded over and over again not to be afraid. As John sees Jesus in all of His glory he hits the ground – he is petrified with fear! I would be too. Can you imagine having the chance to see the glorified risen Lord.
John saw Jesus when He walked the earth with the disciples, but he had not seen the gloried Lord and Savior.

When we see Jesus His appearance will be like what we read about in Revelation and not what we read about in the gospel of John. I can't wait. How about you?

Application

I will not be afraid today. I will live this day seeking to please Him Who lives forever and ever!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I would love to see Jesus like John had the chance to do. John suffered a lot for you and even though I have not suffered like John I love You. One day I may have the opportunity to suffer like Your disciples did and like other believers are doing all over this world. It is my desire to serve You with all my heart and soul even though I live in a country where Your name can be proclaimed without fear of persecution. One day I know that will change, but right now there is freedom. I know that we will be held more accountable for the opportunity to live under this special situation and not taking advantage of it to the fullest. Help me to be the witness You would have me to be. I don't want to lose opportunities to serve You.

No Greater Joy!

Jeremiah 50; Jeremiah 51; 3 John 1
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

No Greater Joy!

Scripture

3 John 1

4 I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.

Observation

It gives me great joy to watch believers that I am helping follow the truth. Watching them grow in the Lord brings me tremendous joy. I have some that I am trying to help that are not walking in the truth. They seemed to be drawn to sin and darkness rather than the light. I wonder sometimes if they really even know the same Jesus that I know. Does the Holy Spirit reside in them like He does me? It is hard to say. They rob me of joy instead of providing joy to my life.

People that involves themselves in sin always bring down those around them. And the pleasure that they receive by sinning is nothing compared to the joy they could gain by living for Christ. It is crazy. It is also very sad.

Application

I will focus on those that bring You joy and I will try to help those that are drawn to sin.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, in the same week I am encouraged by those that are very committed to You and disappointed by those that yield to the pleasure of sin with all of its destruction. Strengthen those that are committed to You and help those in my life that are struggling with sin. I don't understand why they can't just choose a life of putting You first. Help me put You first all day today.

Sincerely Wrong!

Jeremiah 37; Jeremiah 38; Jeremiah 39; Psalm 79; 2 John 1
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Sincerely Wrong!

Scripture

2 John 1

10 If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement. 11 Anyone who encourages such people becomes a partner in their evil work.

Observation

Have you met them? They are very sincere. They work very hard. They go door to door to tell people what to believe. The problem is that these sincere people are sincerely wrong. And what they teach about Christ is not the truth. If you teach truth but add error to it then it is no longer the truth.

These people twist the truth. They also have made changes in the scriptures to fit their story. To them Jesus is the Son of God, but Jesus is not God. To this group of sincere people Jesus is a created being just like you and I are created being. They go door to door with a message that is not the truth.

We are warned in this passage not to open the door to them. Not to receive them into our homes and not to encourage them. Don't encourage them by taking their literature. Don't encourage them by letting them present their message of mis-truths.

You don't have to be rude to them, but sometimes they don't leave a person any other choice because they may want to argue and you may have to abruptly cut them off and shut the door. It is better to do that than listen to their false message.

Application

I will continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. I will continue to share the truth. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be as sincere as those folks that knock on our doors with untruths about You and Your Son. Give me boldness. Give me love for people of every walk of life. Help me accomplish today what You want me to do. Give me energy to do the things that please You.

Praying With Results!

Jeremiah 33; Jeremiah 34; Psalm 74; 1 John 5
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Praying With Results!

Scripture

1 John 5

14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

16 If you see a Christian brother or sister sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life.

21 Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

Observation

Praying prayers that please our Heavenly Father is the key to having our prayers answered. One prayer that always pleases Him is when we pray for a brother or sister that has been drawn into sin. God will work in their life because we are praying for them. Then the final word to all of us is to guard our hearts and keep stuff from taking God's rightful place.

Application

I will think about my prayer life today and I will try to pray the prayers that I know please God because I know that if they please Him then He will respond to my requests.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for listening to us when we pray. Help me to pray for things that please You. I know that if I do pray for things that please You then You will answer me with a “Yes”. Keep me away from things that do not please You and keep me away from things that would take Your place in my heart. Guard my heart today. I pray for Your direction. I want to please You with the way I live out this day. Thank You for fixing my phone yesterday. Cell phones are a breeze for You to repair. Nothing is too hard for You. Be glorified today in and through my life.

Living Like Jesus!

Jeremiah 31; Jeremiah 32; 1 John 4
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Living Like Jesus!

Scripture

1 John 4

16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

Observation

As I read Jeremiah this morning I saw how God was going to destroy Israel because they were so evil and they had turned away from the One and Only True God. They did some terrible things like sacrificing their children to the god Molech. It is hard to understand why they didn't stay true to God after they had dome so much for them.

In 1 John I read this morning that God loves us so much and if we love Him it should show in how we love other Christians. We should live like Jesus did here in this world. Jesus gave His life for us. So we should be willing to do the same thing. Do people say about us, “Those people live like Jesus?” It would be great if they knew that we were Christ Followers just by our behavior. Our verbal witness does not count for much if it is not back up with a life of good works.

It is also great to be reminded that “God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” God lives in me. The Creator God of this Universe lives in me. Amazing! Does He live in you too? If you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ then “yes” He lives in you too!

Application

I am a child of God. God lives in me. I will live this Jesus today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me live like Jesus today. Keep me away from sin. Guard my heart. Help me please You as I go through this day.

See How Very Much Our Father Loves Us!

LinkSee How Very Much Our Father Loves Us!

Scripture

1 John 3

1 See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.

Observation

The God that created this entire Universe wants to call us His children – Amazing! We are His children and one day we will be like Jesus! God the Father doesn't just love us – no, He really loves us.

Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as Your very own Lord and Savior? If you answered “yes” then you are a child of God. We don't deserve it. It is all by God's grace and by His mercy. We deserve to go to Hell and be forever separated from God. I am glad that I am not going to get what I deserve – how about you?

Application

I will trust in the One who loves me very much and who calls me one of His children even though I don't deserve it. I will live out this day knowing that God has me in the Palm of His Hand and He will guide me through this day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me your son. I am a King's kid even though I don't deserve it. Help me live out this day in a way that would bring honor and glory to Your name. Show me those things today that need my attention. Be glorified through our church today.

May His Face Smile On You!

Jeremiah 48; Jeremiah 49; Psalm 67; 1 John 1
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

May His Face Smile On You!

Scripture

Psalm 67

1 May God be merciful and bless us.
May his face smile with favor on us.

1 John 1

1 We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. 2 This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life.

Observation

I just wanted you to read the blessing I found this morning in Psalm 67 and in 1 John 1 also. To know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is God's highest blessing that anyone could receive. Nothing could be a greater blessing than receiving eternal life through a personal relationship with Christ.

If you are a Christ Follower then you know that you are very blessed. I see the struggles that people go through and those that go through these struggles on their own make me very sad. They need for God to smile on them with His favor. All they need to do is look up and cry out to Him and He could intervene, but they don't.
Are you struggling this morning? If you need help this morning why don't you look up and let God's face smile on you this morning.

Application

I will turn people towards God's smiling face. I will turn them to the One who is eternal life – I will turn them towards Jesus!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is sad to watch people live their lives without You. You are the Creator God. Life was not meant to be lived out without having You as our God. Our lives were meant to bring You glory and honor. I pray today that Your face will shine on those who I love. May my children and my grandchildren make You smile today. Turn their hearts towards You. Help them put their faith and their trust in You and in You alone. Don't let them live out their lives without experiencing Your favor. Thank You for saving me. It is my desire that all of my family experience Your love and Your favor just as I experience!

Doing Life Together

Jeremiah 45; Jeremiah 46; Jeremiah 47; Psalm 105; John 21
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Doing Life Together

Scripture

John 21

25 Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.

Observation

What we read in the New Testament about Jesus is just some of the high lights of His ministry. John says that there are not enough books in this world to hold the details about everything He did while He walked this earth. Sometimes we read the New Testament Gospels not thinking that most of what Jesus did then was not mentioned. Maybe the stories that are included in the Gospels were picked out because Jesus used those events to train His disciples. I think we should read carefully about what Jesus did and then focus on getting the most out of those accounts.

We will be studying the ministry of Jesus this year in our life group. It will be exciting to walk with Jesus as He trains His twelve disciples and at the same time He will be training us. Are you ready? If you want information about the Following Jesus Together story set you can google Real Life Ministries or Avery Willis and find out about them.

Application

I will begin to read the stories that we will begin to share in our life groups in just 2 weeks.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that You would open up the scriptures to all of those that will be participating in our life groups beginning in just 2 weeks. I pray for leaders, more host homes and more people willing to participate. Impress upon our people the importance of doing life together in small groups.

Written So You May Believe!

Scripture

John 20

30 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

Observation

The Gospel of John was written so that you and I might believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. So that by believing in Him we might have life by the power of His name. Are you a believer?

John is a great book for seekers that want to know Christ in a personal way. Verses like John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; 10:28; 11:25 and 14:6 all point us to a personal relationship with Christ.

Application

I will continue to share Christ using the Gospel of John in witnessing and in following up new believers.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the Gospel of John. Thank You for giving us Your word. It is powerful and living. The Gospel of John is full of promises for us that have placed our faith in Christ and also for those that will come to Christ in the future.

God Is Sovereign...He Is In Control!

Jeremiah 23; Jeremiah 24; Jeremiah 25; John 19

God Is Sovereign...He Is In Control!

Scripture

John 19

10 “Why don’t you talk to me?” Pilate demanded. “Don’t you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?”

11 Then Jesus said, “You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

12 Then Pilate tried to release him,...”

Observation

There are times when I think evil is winning out in this world as I watch on TV all of the terrible things being done by governments all over the world. Then I read my Bible and I am reminded that God even uses those evil governments for His purposes. He is in control. As I watch our country slide downward I am reminded that nations rise and fall based on their relationship with God. Sometimes God allows very evil nations to rise up to punish another nation for their sins. We see Him do that over and over again as we read the prophets in the Old Testament.

No leader has any power at all unless God has given it to him. And God will bring that leader down when that leader has fulfilled God's purpose for him or her. Only from God's perspective will we ever understand why leaders like Castro stay in power. It is beyond our ability to understand. And there are leaders in this world far more worse that Castro that seem to stay in power for decades.

Application

I realize today that I serve a Sovereign God. He is in control. Nothing surprises Him and we are on the winning team.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, there is so much evil in this world. So much that is out of our control, but nothing happens that catches You by surprise. You are an awesome all-powerful God. Nothing is out of Your control. You have a plan and nobody is going to change that plan. One day every knee will bow at the Name of Your Son Jesus and I look forward to that day. Come Lord Jesus...Come!

What Does It Mean To Know God?

What Does It Mean To Know God?

Scripture

Jeremiah 22

16 He gave justice and help to the poor and needy,
and everything went well for him.
Isn’t that what it means to know me?”
says the Lord.

Observation

Psalm 112 and Jeremiah 22 both talk about what it means to be a godly person. In Jeremiah the Lord is comparing the life of godly Josiah with the life of his ungodly son Jehoiachin. Jehoiachin built for himself a beautiful cedar palace but God's response to this was to say in verse 15 “But a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king!”

Then the Lord described the life of Josiah, “16 He gave justice and help to the poor and needy, and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” says the Lord.

If we really know the Lord then it will show in our concern for those around us that are less fortunate.

Application

I will try to do something good for someone this week that can't pay me back.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, helped me be a doer of Your word this week and not a hearer only. May You be able to say about me the things that You said about Your king Josiah. Give me Your heart and Your eyes for those around me.

This Is The Way To Have Eternal Life!

Jeremiah 18; Jeremiah 19; Jeremiah 20; Psalm 93; John 17
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

This Is The Way To Have Eternal Life!

Scripture

John 17

3 And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

Observation

There is only one way to have eternal life—to know God and Jesus in a personal way. There is a personal relationship with God on when we have surrender our lives over to Him. If you have never ask Him to forgive you of your sins then you are alienated from Him—you are an enemy of God and not a friend.

Have you been forgiven? Do you know Him? Have you ever turned from your life of sin and self and turned to God? Have you ever invited Jesus Christ to come into your life as Lord and Savior? If the answer to these questions is “no” then you do not know the only true God and you do not know Jesus Christ.

You can change all that right now. Pray and ask Jesus Christ to save you right now. Here is a model prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I know that You died on the cross for me. I know that You died to pay the penalty of my sins. Please forgive me of my sins. Please come into my life as Lord and Savior. I am turning from my life of sin and selfishness and I am turning to You. Thank You for coming into my life. Thank You for saving me. Now I know You and I know the only true God.

Application

I will share the Gospel this week as I have the opportunity. So people can know the only true God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for those at Mission Tampa today. I pray that you help the counselors that will share the Gospel with the people today. I pray that people would put their faith and trust in You. I pray that people would be drawn to a closer relationship to You through the power of Your word.

Blessed!

Blessed!

Scripture

Jeremiah 17

7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.

Observation

I am blessed. God is so good. He has been so good to me. I trust in the Lord. He is my hope and my confidence! How about you? This passage reminds me of Psalm 1:

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with scoffers. [2] But they delight in doing everything the Lord wants; day and night they think about his law. [3] They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season without fail. Their leaves never wither, and in all they do, they prosper.”

Application

I will rejoice in the fact today that I am blessed. I will enjoy God's promise to me found in Jeremiah and in Psalms that those that trust in Him will prosper and flourish!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing me so much. Looking back on my life I have no regrets in living my life committed to You. I am so glad that You saved me from a life of sin and destruction. Thank You for showering me with Your blessings. I don't deserve it, but I am grateful to receive Your wonderful love and kindness. You are a Mighty God. You are so good. Be glorified today in our worship service.

We Must Influence Those Around Us

We Must Influence Those Around Us

Scripture

Jeremiah 15

You must influence them;
do not let them influence you!
20 They will fight against you like an attacking army,
but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze.

Observation

I think we as a church have forgotten that we are to influence the world and not the other way around. On matters of moral integrity, like lying, cheating, stealing, sexual immorality when polls are taken there is not much difference in church goers and non church goers. I don't understand why. Do you?

As I read the word of God every day I am instructed to live a life that is different from the rest of the world. If something is not going to bring God glory then it is not for me. I am not saying that I am perfect. I am still a sinner. I am a forgiven sinner who desires to live my life pleases my Heavenly Father.

Once we step into the light and surrender our lives to Christ then we should continue to walk in that light so we can bring Him honor and glory. Shine for Jesus.
What is different about your life from those that don't know Christ?

Application

I will influence those around me and not the other way around. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Jeremiah felt so alone and it seems that he felt like because of his suffering that You had forgotten him. Help me to be as faithful to You as Jeremiah was and don't let me get caught up in the sin around me. I want to influence the people around me. I want to help move them to a closer relationship with You. You are a Mighty God. You are Worthy of Praise. May Your hand be on our church tomorrow and I pray that people would put their faith and trust in You for their salvation. I pray for new people to find their way to our church. And I pray that they would find a place to serve.

When Everything Is Ready

Scripture

John 14

Jesus, the Way to the Father

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

Observation

When everything is ready I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. A friend of ours went to be with Jesus last night. Everything must have been ready in his Father's house. Death is very difficult and painful for the loved ones that are left behind, but for the one that has died if he or she is Christ follower, it is a time of great gain. They are in Heaven. They are in the place that God has been preparing for them. The loss is ours not theirs.

Sometimes we grieve as people that don't really believe what Jesus says in John 14. John 14 should provide great comfort to all of us that are going through a time of loss. It should put a smile on our face knowing that our loved one is in Heaven experiencing a celebration that is literally out of this world.

I guess that is why I love funerals of saints. During the funeral service we have the opportunity to really express our trust in all of God's promises about Heaven and Eternal Life. It is a time to celebrate. It is a time to laugh. We call a Christ Follower a saint not because they were perfect, but because by God's grace though they were sinners God saved them. It is a time to remember how God changed that person's life from a sinner to a saint. It is a time to give God glory for the miracle of salvation.

None of deserve Heaven we are all sinners that deserve Hell, but the death of a saint or Christ Follower helps remind us of God's wonderful mercy and grace. It is only by His Grace and His Mercy do we get to enjoy Heaven.

Application

I love to think about what Jesus said in John 14 and John 11 during times of loss. I will meditate on those chapters this week.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for Randy and Laurel, Sherry and Rodney, Ruth and Murray, and all their kids as they go through this time of loss. Thank You for all of Your promises. Jim is celebrating today. He will be catching up with some old friends and his spending time with Dot. I pray for the family as they go through this time of loss. I pray that it would draw them closer to You and closer to each other. You are the God of all comfort and the God of all compassion and I know that You will comfort each one of them today.

Boasting In Jesus Alone

Jeremiah 7; Jeremiah 8; Jeremiah 9; John 13

Boasting In Jesus Alone

Scripture

Jeremiah 9

23 This is what the Lord says:
“Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom,
or the powerful boast in their power,
or the rich boast in their riches.
24 But those who wish to boast
should boast in this alone:
that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord

Observation

Care to boast about something, if you do then you better make sure that you are boasting about the Lord. Power, wisdom and riches all are something that someone could boast about but if you are smart you will boast about knowing the Lord. Give Him the glory and the honor. Don't take glory and honor for yourself or you will be sorry.

Boast in the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth because He delights in those things.

Application

I will live out today recognizing that I have nothing to boast about except Christ who has changed my life. Everything good about my life I owe to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, my boast is in You and in You alone. I realize that on my own I can do nothing but with Christ I can do everything. I can live this day in victory because of Jesus Christ. He deserves the glory and the honor. I will make my boast in Him.

Help Me To Be Uncomfortable!

Jeremiah 5; Jeremiah 6; John 12

Help Me To Be Uncomfortable!

Scripture

John 12

25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. 26 Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

Observation

I don't think you will find the word “comfortable” in the scriptures, but that is what we always seem to desire. I don't find any place in the scriptures where Jesus was concerned with our comfort while we are here on earth. In fact, I see that He lets us know that if we are true followers of His that we will live a life that is uncomfortable, a life of sacrifice, a life totally contrary to the American dream or the American way of life. We are surrounded with creature comforts while the rest of the world doesn't even have enough food, or enough clothes or shoes for their feet.

I want to live out verse 26. How about you?

Application

I will ask the Lord to show me every change I need to make in my daily life to reflect a life that would make Him smile.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, show what needs to change in my life so I can be the disciple that You describe in verse 26. I don't want to miss out on how I am supposed to live out my life. I want to please You. Show me. Give me Your eyes. Give me Your heart. I want to make You smile.

Do You Believe This?

Jeremiah 3; Jeremiah 4; John 11

Do You Believe This

Scripture

John 11

25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this...?”

Observation

Do you believe this? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life? Do you believe that anyone who believes in Him will live, even after dying? Do you believe that everyone who lives in Him and believes in Him will never ever die?

Well I don't know about you, but I sure do! I will never ever die. I am going to live forever. It has nothing to do with my goodness, but it has everything to do with Jesus and His goodness!

Lazarus had to go through death's door twice. I don't think he was happy about being brought back to life. It brought joy to his sisters' lives but I am sure he had mixed feelings about it. Realizing that it was all for God's glory I guess he was able to understand why Jesus brought him back to this earth. Once I am in Heaven I sure don't want to be pulled back to this old rotten world. How about you?

Application

I will continue to share this story every chance I get especially at funerals! It is my favorite story in all of the Bible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Jesus is the resurrection and the life. I am going to live forever because of what Jesus did on the cross for me. Thank You for dying on the cross in my place. Thank You for giving me eternal life. I am never going to die, and even when I die I will continue to live. Nothing will keep me in the grave either!

Sheep and The Good Shepherd

Jeremiah 1; Jeremiah 2; John 10
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Sheep and The Good Shepherd

Scripture

John 10

10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,

Observation

Since we don't have a lot of sheep and shepherds in our day we might miss the meaning of this analogy if we are not careful. Jesus is the Good Shepherd and He wants to give us a rich and satisfying life. Are you experiencing this kind of life today? Why or why not?

Do you know for sure that when you die you will go to Heaven? Why or why not?

If you know the Good Shepherd and if you have become one of His sheep then you have eternal life and nobody can take it away from you.
I have a Good Shepherd and His name is Jesus. I have eternal life. I have a rich and satisfying life. How about you? If you have never asked Jesus Christ to become Lord and Savior of your life why not do it right now. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and surrender your life to Him. Allow Him to become the Good Shepherd of your life.

Application

I will share this with the folks at Mission Tampa this morning.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help the people at Mission Tampa understand the Gospel today. So many of them are blinded to the truth of the Gospel. Open their eyes today. I pray that they could see that they are lost without Christ.

Jesus is Worthy of Worship

Zephaniah 1; Zephaniah 2; Zephaniah 3; John 9
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Jesus is Worthy of Worship

Scripture

John 9

35 When Jesus heard what had happened, he found the man and asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 The man answered, “Who is he, sir? I want to believe in him.”
37 “You have seen him,” Jesus said, “and he is speaking to you!”
38 “Yes, Lord, I believe!” the man said. And he worshiped Jesus.

Observation

Jesus healed the blind man even though the blind man didn't have a clue at first who Jesus was. It was after the blind man was healed that he began to find out about who healed him. Once he hears about who it is that healed him he worshiped Jesus. Only God can be truly worshiped. Jesus accepted the blind man's worship because Jesus is God. He was born blind. You and I are born blind spiritually.

Only God can open up our spiritual eyes so that we can see. If you have come to a place in your life where you understand that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you and you have surrendered your life to Him and He is now your Lord and Savior then it was God who gave you the spiritual understand or the spiritual sight to be saved. We don't save ourselves.

Have you said in your heart, “yes, Lord, I believe?” Have you been healed of your spiritual blindness? Then worship Jesus!

Application

I am awe filled to think that the Creator God of this Universe has chosen to heal me of my spiritual blindness. I will thank Him all day today. And I will pray for others to be saved today as we worship.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for taking the spiritual blinders off of my eyes and allowing me to be saved. Thank You for saving me. I pray that You do the same thing for the others in my family. I pray that they could worship You just like I have the opportunity to do. You are wonderful. You are a Mighty God. You are the Light of the World.

God is Sovereign!

Scripture

Habakkuk 3

17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights.

Observation

This is a great passage for all of us this week as we have watched the meltdown on Wall Street. It is a great reminder that we must focus on the Lord and not on circumstances. Who is your strength? Can you say, “The Sovereign Lord is my strength!” Are you rejoicing today?

Application

I will rejoice in the Lord. I will praise Him all day today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my strength. I rejoice in You. You make me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. Even though everything turns and heads south I will rejoice in You. I put my trust in You.

Don't Be So Quick To Judge

2 Kings 23; 2 Chronicles 35; John 7
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Don't Be So Quick To Judge

Scripture

John 7

24 Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.”

Observation

I am usually so wrong about people when I first meet them. The people were so wrong about Jesus. They were judging Him because He healed someone on the Sabbath. He quickly showed them that they even healed on the Sabbath when they circumcised their sons on the Sabbath. He showed them their flawed understanding of the scriptures. They couldn't get past the fact that they thought He had broken one of their rules even if it was to totally heal someone.

Application

I want to be slower to judge others today and when I do make a judgment call I hope I can look beneath the surface to be able to judge correctly. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give me Your heart. Help me see people like You see people and help me not to be quick to judge. I know that my heart is also desperately wicked and without Your Holy Spirit controlling me today I can totally misread the people around me. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for providing for me. You are so good.

Human Effort Accomplishes Nothing!

Human Effort Accomplishes Nothing!

Scripture

John 6

63 The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Observation

When I talk to people at Mission Tampa about their relationship with God they almost always talk about being good or doing good stuff to please God to get into Heaven. This verse tells us how much human effort accomplishes in getting us into Heaven...Nothing...Zero...Nada!

Application

I will continue to share the Gospel of Grace and I will continue to shatter people's hopes of getting to Heaven on their own effort.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You alone save. Salvation is in no other name but Jesus. Help me communicate the Gospel clearly and exalt Jesus. Take the spiritual blinders off of the people that hear the Gospel. Draw people to yourself. I pray that people will be saved this Sunday at Christ Fellowship.

When Trouble Comes Where Do You Turn?

When Trouble Comes Where Do You Turn?

Scripture

Nahum 1

7 The Lord is good,
a strong refuge when trouble comes.
He is close to those who trust in him.

Observation

Here is a great promise for those of us who love the Lord. “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him.”
Got trouble? Pray this verse back to your Heavenly Father! We have a Heavenly Father who is good. He is not up in Heaven trying to figure out ways to be mean to us. No, He is good and He is good all the time.

When storms come into your life and they will come, remember that you have a strong refuge. You have a safe place to be when those storms come. Snuggle up under the wings of the Almighty...get close to Him. Let Him protect you from all the trouble that life sends our way. It is a choice. We either stay out in the storm or we go to the One who can provide a safe place for us to weather the storm.

Application

I will seek refuge with the Lord when trouble comes because He is my strong refuge.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are good. You are my strong refuge when trouble comes. You are close to me because I trust in You. Guide me today. Help me as I go through this day to bring You honor and glory. It is my desire to be very close to You today. You are Mighty. Nothing is too hard for You.

Wake Up! There Are People That Need a Savior!

2 Kings 21; 2 Chronicles 33; John 4

Wake Up! There Are People That Need a Savior!

Scripture

John 4

35 You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest. 36 The harvesters are paid good wages, and the fruit they harvest is people brought to eternal life.

Observation

But Jesus says, “wake up and look around!” The fields are already ripe for harvest. The harvest is all around us. We need to wake up and see it. There are people all around us that God has prepared to receive the Good News. We just need to share with them. They are ripe and ready to be harvested.

The Samaritan woman was ready to receive Christ. So were many of those that lived in the Samaritan village. The disciples didn't even think the Samaritan's were people worth saving. They despised the Samaritan's and they needed to learn a lesson. Who do you despise or tend to ignore? Is it the people on the street corners? Is it people of a different skin color or people that speak a different language? They are ripe for the harvest if we are willing to work the fields.

Application

I will work hard at looking past a person's appearance and the circumstances that they live in and I will focus on their need of a Savior.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to have Your heart and Your compassion for people no matter what they look like or how they act or where they live or how they smell. I want to help them come to You. I want them to experience eternal life. Help me bring people to You.

Believe in Jesus!

Isaiah 65; Isaiah 66; Psalm 62; John 3
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Believe in Jesus!

Scripture

John 3

14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”

Observation

Today I will go and talk to people at Mission Tampa and almost 99% of them will not understand the Gospel message even though it has been repeated over and over again to them. I pray that today someone will understand the Gospel and they will be saved. Almost all of them are trusting in their good works to get into Heaven and only talk about Jesus after they have shared about getting to Heaven by being good. It is truly amazing, but also it is very sad.

Salvation is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ. A person must put their faith and their trust in Him for their salvation. It is not Jesus plus good works or good works plus Jesus. No, a person must clearly understand that salvation comes when they believe in Jesus Christ and they trust in what He did for them on the cross. There is no other way to be saved. Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ? Are your sins forgiven? Is He your Savior?

Application

I will share these verses with the people at Mission Tampa and I will pray for their salvation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that Roderick came to church yesterday and he put his faith and his trust in Jesus to save him. Thank You for giving me the opportunity to talk to him about his relationship to You. I pray that others at Mission Tampa will be saved today. Open their eyes so they can understand the Gospel. I pray for their salvation. I pray that You do a mighty work in their lives today. You are Mighty. Nothing is too hard for You.
