My Future Is In Your Hands.

My Future
Is
In Your Hands.
Scripture
Psalm 31
I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love,
for you have seen my troubles,
and you care about the anguish of my soul.

14 But I am trusting you, O Lord,
    saying, “You are my God!”

15 My future is in your hands.

16 Let your favor shine on your servant.
In your unfailing love, rescue me.

Observation

I don't know about you but there are some days when I just need to be reassured that the Lord is going to take care of me. I sometimes need to be reminded that the Lord is going to take care of my family.

Maybe you have days like that too. Well if you do then Psalm 31 is a good Psalm for both of us.
Another thing that I have learned to do when worry and doubt starts creeping into my life is to look back on how God has taken care of me and my family in the past.

Here is just one example:

When Kathy and I moved out to Ft. Worth, Texas on January, 1976, we made the move with only $250 in our pockets. God had called us to be missionaries and we were moving to Texas to finish College and Seminary in preparation of that call.

We put our few belongings into a moving truck with our friend's (Hugh and Millie Roberts) belongings. Hugh and Millie had rented the truck to move their stuff and they were gracious enough to move us with them. And behind their moving truck we towed our 1952 Chevrolet.

Upon arriving in Ft. Worth Kathy and I rented a house, the rent was $150 a month with a $100 deposit which left us with $0!

It was in those days that God taught Kathy and I that we could and that we must totally trust in Him.

I look back on those times and I am amazed and I smile … it was God … He took care of us then and He will take care of us now.

Our future is always in his hands.

Philippians 4:6-7
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

Application
I will trust in the Lord. He loves me. He will take care of us.
How about you? Will you trust Him to take care of you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are worthy to be praised. Because You are my Shepherd I have everything I need. You are enough. Thank You for your Word. Thank You for every promise that You have given us. I hold on tightly to each one of them. I pray for any person reading this blog today that is struggling and worrying about details in his or her life. Show them that they can trust in You. Reassure them. Encourage them. Increase their faith!

Their Hearts Were Too Hard To Take It In.

Their
Hearts Were Too Hard
To Take It In.
Scripture
Mark 6
47 Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land.
48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them,
49 but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.
50 They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,”he said. “Take courage! I am here!”
51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed,
52 for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.
Observation
The disciples couldn't yet grasp who their leader was!
Even though they had just seen Jesus cast out a legion of demons out of a man and make an evangelist out of him, healing of a woman who had been suffering for 12 years with an unstoppable bleeding problem, the raising a 12 year old back from the dead, and the feeding of 5,000 men and their families using only a young boys lunch, consisting of 2 small fish and 5 small loaves of bread.
And yet even after witnessing all of those miracles they freaked out when Jesus came to them walking on the water! They were terrified when they saw him and they were totally amazed when he climbed into their boat, and the wind stopped.
What was their problem? Why couldn't they get it?
The disciples' problem in the boat that night is also the very same problem that you and I have – and it is a very serious problem – it is called a “hard heart”.
Having a hard heart will cause us to miss out on what God is doing in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
Plus, having a hard and unrepentant heart can get us involved in sin so deeply that we act out like an unbeliever, committing such sins described in Galatians 5:19-21 “being sexually unfaithful, not being pure, taking part in sexual sins, worshiping gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, feeling envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties”
So lets guard our hearts.
Psalm 51:17
17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.
Jeremiah 17:9
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Proverbs 4:23
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Ephesians 4:17-19
17 With the Lord’s authority I say this: Live no longer as the Gentiles do, for they are hopelessly confused.
18 Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him.
19 They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.
Application
I will guard my heart and I will confess my sins as I commit them.
How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, I want to be able to see you at work in the lives of those around me and I don't want to miss the miracles that you are doing in my life. Help me to guard my heart. Don't let me do stupid sins that mess up my walk with you and that will mess up my relationship with those around me.

Do You Still Have No Faith?

Do
You
Still Have No Faith?
Scripture
Mark 4
35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”
36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.
38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.
40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
Observation
Why is church attendance so important? Why do I need to go to church? Can't I live the Christian life without going to church?
The short answer is “No”!
Life was never meant to be lived without Divine help. Church is God's idea!
Are you neglecting the Lord's Day and still expecting God to bless you, your family, and your work or business?
Okay, what does all of this have to do with today's Bible passage in Mark 4?
Life is brutal. Life is full of storms, one storm right after another. You and I need Jesus (and his disciples) in our boat!
If you have to work on Sundays, and I know that some people do, then you find another day of the week to meet with the body of Christ in a Bible study or a small group.
A Christ follower cannot live a healthy productive Christian life when he or she is separated from the body of Christ any more than your foot survive on its own if it gets cut off from your body.
Lets make church a priority!
Hebrews 10:24-25
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Application
I will strongly encourage people to get back into church.
How about you? Are you living life like God doesn't exist?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me how important Your church is, both for me and for the world I live in. Help me encourage those who are discouraged, those who have stopped attending church for one reason or another. I will keep praying for them. Help them see just how important the body of Christ is for their spiritual life. Help them to walk by faith and not by sight. Thank You for all of the volunteers that served at our church yesterday! It is so exciting to see and experience all that You are doing at our church.

Humble Yourselves Before The Lord, And He Will Lift You Up In Honor.

Humble
Yourselves Before The Lord,
And He Will Lift You Up In Honor.
Scripture
James 4
7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
Observation
Why do so many resist following the Lord? Church … they say no way!
I am talking about folks that have been raised in Christian homes and that grew up going to church ... but now they have no desire to follow the Lord.
Maybe I am describing you!
Could it be that these folks just do not want to surrender? Oh, it is foolish pride … they think that don't need to live for God.
My friend, there needs to come a point in my life and in your life where God becomes more important than anything else.
So let me ask you, “Are you living life like God doesn't exist? How is that working out for you?
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”
It is true that going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more that pushing a wheel barrow into a garage makes it a car, but going to church is what you and I do when our lives are surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Church participation, being an active part of the body of Christ, is God's idea.
So lets get moving, lets say “Yes” to the Lordship of Christ and lets get ourselves to church!
Application
I am looking forward to being in church in a few minutes.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me a long time ago that being part of a church was not optional for me. Thank You for our church and for everyone that makes up Christ Fellowship. I pray for our pastors and their families. Bless them Lord. Help them to lead us in a way that honors You.

Put Me To The Test!

Put
Me
To The Test!
Scripture
Malachi 3
8 “Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me!
But you ask, ‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?’
You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me. 9 You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me.
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in!
Try it! Put me to the test!
Observation

Right now at our church, Pastor Bruce Moore and Pastor Brian Elliott are preaching and encouraging everyone to take the 90 day Tithe Challenge.
This is a win-win proposition! I think it is a no-brainer!
At our church you are encouraged to start tithing and give it a try for 90 days. At the end of the 90 days if God hasn't blessed you as He promises to do in Malachi 3:10, then let the church know and you can get your money back.
At least I am pretty sure that is how the challenge works.
I have heard people complain when messages are on giving. I have even heard believers say that the church or the pastor is only interested in their money. Yes, I have heard comments like that! When I hear critical comments about messages on giving it lets me know that the person doing the complaining doesn't understand at all the spiritual law of the harvest. And usually it is an indication, at least to me, that the person doing the complaining has never learned to be a cheerful giver themselves.
It has been both fun and rewarding at our church watching young Christians begin to tithe and then to hear their amazing testimonies of how God has blessed them as they stepped out in faith.
My friend, this spiritual growth would not have happened if our pastors had not taken the bold step to preach and teach challenging messages on giving.
Luke 6:38
38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.
Galatians 6:7,9-10
7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Application
I will be a cheerful giver.
How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, don't let me be stingy. Always help me to be generous. I believe what You say about giving. I hold on to every one of Your promises. I know that I can never ever out give You. Give our pastors wisdom to lead us. Keep them close to You. Help them to speak Your Word with power and authority. Help them be men of integrity. Bless their families.

To Divorce Your Wife Is To Overwhelm Her With Cruelty

To Divorce
Your Wife
Is To Overwhelm Her With Cruelty
Scripture
Malachi 2
14 You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows.
15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.
16 “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
Observation

To Divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven's Armies.
So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.”
Wow! And right before that God said this, “For I hate divorce!”
In verse fourteen of this same chapter we read that the 'Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young.' Hello!
Now let me quickly say that this goes for wives too, especially in our culture! Wives need to love their husbands and they need to remain faithful to them too.
In fact, the last time I wrote about a passage that dealt with marriage and divorce I had a friend write me and he told me that his wife was the one that was treating him cruelly. He shared with me that for the past number of years she has been refusing to have sex with him. And he shared with me that even though she was withholding herself from him he was still committed to their marriage and he was still committed to keeping the covenant that he had made with her before God.
Satan is our enemy not our spouse, but Satan will sure try to mess up our marriage and he will try to make our spouse out to be the enemy! I do believe that marital strife and divorce is Satan's number one weapon in his arsenal that he uses against the church.
So lets guard our hearts; lets not be unfaithful to our spouse.
Application
I will guard my heart. I will be faithful to Kathy.
How about you? Have you been neglecting your spouse? Date night?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, marriage and family, they were both all Your idea. And marriage only works the way it is supposed to work when You are number One in our lives. Help me to keep Kathy in that number two spot and help me to keep You as number One. I pray for those who have gone through broken relationships and that may have even gone through the pain of divorce. Help them Lord. Where possible bring marriages back together even some that have already experienced divorce. You are the God of making the “impossible” possible. I have seen you heal marriages and restore relationships. You are a mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You!

Taste And See That The Lord Is Good.

Taste And See
That
The Lord Is Good.
Scripture
Psalm 34
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

Observation
What is your view of God?
Your view of God and my view of God will determine how often we pray.
When I ask people how often they pray I often hear them say something like, “Well I pray at night before I go to sleep.” How about you, often do you pray?
It is our view of God that fuels our prayer life.
If you and I have a high view of God, if we view him as our Heavenly Father, then we will talk to him as a child talks to his or her father. And if we really believe that God is our Heavenly Father and that he loves and cares about us then we will go to him all the time in prayer.
The other day I was helping my son work on his brother Tim's car and we were having a hard time getting a bolt loose because the head of the bolt had been rounded off. I said, Eddie (he spells his name Eddie not Eddy like me) we need to pray about this. So I prayed, “Father, help us get this bolt out!” We got back under the car, beat a socket on to the head of the bolt and out it came!
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!”
Our Heavenly Father wants us to talk to him about everything, nothing is too small, nothing is too large. He is the Good, Good Father.
God is not like a father – He is Father.
Psalm 55:16-17
But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me. Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice.
Application
I will talk to my Heavenly Father all day long.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that I can take everything to You in prayer. You know me like no one else knows me. You are the only one who can meet my deepest needs. You are always there when I need You. You never are away. You never sleep. You care about every detail of my life. You delight in me. I don't deserve Your love and I am not worthy to receive this kind of love, but You give it to me anyway. Thank You for allowing me the privilege of calling You Father. You are awesome. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers!

Let All That I Am Praise The Lord!

Let
All That I Am
Praise The Lord!
Scripture
Psalm 103
1 Let all that I am praise the Lord;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.

2 Let all that I am praise the Lord;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.

3 He forgives all my sins
    and heals all my diseases.

4 He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.

5 He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

Observation
I am looking forward to being at our church, Christ Fellowship, first thing tomorrow morning!
Last Sunday Lisa Sims and the Praise Team led us in an unbelievable time of praise and worship. I am so grateful for them!
After that we heard a powerful testimony from Mark and Brenna Sullivan about the exciting things that God has been doing in their lives, and then to top it all off we heard a powerful message from our Pastor, Bruce Moore.
It was an awesome day of worship and praise!
Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.”
Of course we don't have to wait until Sunday to praise our Heavenly Father. You and I can praise him right now! Sunday is the icing on the cake!
Lets praise Him right now for all the good things that He does for us!
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. ”
Let all that I am praise the Lord!
Habakkuk 3:17-18
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms,
    and there are no grapes on the vines;
even though the olive crop fails,
    and the fields lie empty and barren;
even though the flocks die in the fields,
and the cattle barns are empty,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
Application
With all that I am I will praise the Lord!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, nobody forces me, nobody makes me, give You praise. It is something that has to come from within my spirit and my soul. I recognize that I have breath right now because You have allowed me to live another day longer on this earth. You are my good good Father. You are worthy of all praise. Let all that I am praise You! May I never forget all of the good things that You have done for me!

Why Am I Discouraged?

Why Am
I
Discouraged?
Scripture
Psalm 42
11 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!
Observation
King David was a man after God's own heart. God said that about David, it wasn't David bragging on himself.
And yet, even though David had this kind of love for God it didn't mean that he didn't struggle with discouragement and with depression.
After all a good part of King David's life was lived out hiding in caves and hiding out in the wilderness trying to escape those who were trying to kill him.
You and I will go through times of discouragement and through times of being down in the dumps. There will be times when we are going to be down, times when we are bummed out, and there will be times when we are not even going to be able to put our finger on the reason why we feel that way!
It is in those moments that we need to do just what King David did – we need to praise our Heavenly Father.
We need to turn to Him just like David did and we need to say to Him just like King David did, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God? I will praise Him again – my Savior and my God!” Depressed? Discouraged? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God!
So when we are down ... let's look up!
1 Chronicles 29:11
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.
Philippians 4:4, 6-8
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! … Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Application
I will praise the Lord … whether I feel like it or not!
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You know my thoughts. You know exactly how I feel and You know why I feel the way I do even when I don't why. So I will praise You when I am up and I will praise You when I am down. I am not going to operate based on the way I feel. Help me to walk by faith and not by sight. I praise you, Lord! I am fearfully and wonderfully made! I will put my hope in You! I will praise You again and again and again – You are my Savior and my God!

Then He Opened Their Minds To Understand The Scriptures

Then
He Opened Their Minds
To Understand The Scriptures
Scripture
Luke 24
45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
Observation
Kathy just asked me about a question she had about the passage in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 where the Apostle Paul says that the dead in Christ will return with him, but then a few sentences later in the passage Paul says that the dead in Christ will rise from their graves.
All of us as we seriously read God's Word are going to have questions about what the Bible says.
I have been reading the Bible through each year and writing a short blog about what I read for the past 12 years and I still find myself scratching my head trying to fully understand what I am reading.
The disciples didn't understand, they didn't grasp completely, what the Bible said about Jesus, until Jesus opened up their minds to the Scriptures.
By the way, I couldn't answer Kathy's question!
Here is what I know; the more that you and I are in God's Word, the more it is going to become part of our lives. God's Word is alive. It is powerful. It is sharper than a two edge sword.
God's Word will cut through all of the fluff in our life and it will help us live our lives in a way that God intended. Our lives will be filled with meaning and purpose if we are digging into God's Word and if we are living according to what we read.
You and I cannot, no, we absolutely cannot, live successful Christian lives without spending time in God's Word everyday.
Hebrews 4:12
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
Psalm 119:11
11 I have hidden your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.

Application
I will read God's Word every day.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I want You to open up the minds of those in my family, who up to this point, are not living like You don't even exist. Open up their minds so they can see what they are missing. Give them understanding. Change the direction of their lives.
Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. Psalm 146:1-2

Jesus, Remember Me When You Come Into Your Kingdom

Jesus,
Remember Me
When You Come Into Your Kingdom
Scripture
Luke 23
39 One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”
40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die?41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”
43 And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Observation
It is not good people that go to Heaven and it is not bad people that go to Hell!
Maybe that is what you have always thought, and I say that because that is the way most people think. My friend, it is only forgiven people that go to Heaven!
The two criminals hanging beside Jesus were close enough to talk to Jesus. At first both criminals ridiculed Jesus, they both made fun Him, but then something happened and one of the criminal's spiritual eyes were opened. Suddenly he realized that he was in the very presence of God Himself.
This repentant thief cried out to Jesus in a prayer, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” It was most definitely a sinners prayer!
You and I, just like the thief on the cross, are both sinners.
When I was 19 years old someone shared with me the Good News, the wonderful news that God loved me enough to die on a cross to pay the penalty of my sins.
It was then, just like the thief on the cross, that I prayed and I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life. I asked him to forgive me of my sins; it was at that moment, just like the thief on the cross, that I placed my faith and my trust in Christ to be my Savior.
So I know that when I die I am going to Heaven, and it is not because I am that good because I am not; I know that I am going to Heaven when I die because, like the thief on the cross, I have been forgiven.
If you were to die today, where would you spend Eternity?
Application
I am so thankful for someone sharing the Good News with me. And I will share it with everyone that will listen.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray for any person that may read this short blog today. Open up his or her spiritual eyes so that they can comprehend how much you love them. I pray for their salvation. I pray for those who live in the path of this huge storm. I pray for protection for them. I pray for the First Responders who will risk their lives to rescue people during and after Hurricane Michael passes by. Use this storm to draw people closer to You. May their situation, just like it did for the thief on the cross, cause them to believe!
