Love Never Gives Up

Scripture

1 Corinthians 13

7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Observation

1 Corinthians 13 is a great chapter to read this morning because it is the chapter that we are focusing on during our 40 Days of Love Campaign. I love verse 7, "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." Two words jump out at me from this verse, the word "never" and the word "always".

Those are two words that we pretty much can't use honestly because we don't keep our promises like God does. I can say that I will never do something, but I probably eventually will do it. I could say that "I would never murder someone" and maybe I would never physically murder someone but what about in my mind. I could say that I will always love the Lord, but then there will probably be times when my actions reveal just the opposite.

But with God His "never" and His "always" are sure things. You can substitute "Jesus Christ" or God in the place of "love" in this chapter because God is love.

Application

I want to live so close to the Lord today that people see the love of Christ in me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You never give up, You never lose faith, You are always hopeful, and You endure through every circumstance. Help me to live out this verse and this chapter today.

Amazing Faith or Amazing Lack of Faith

Scripture

Mark 6

6 And he was amazed at their unbelief.

Observation

If you and I are going to wow Jesus lets do it with big faith and not with a lack of faith! Could you imagine that Jesus could be amazed by the amount of your faith? I would love to amaze Him. How about you?

Application

I will live by faith today and not by my feelings!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it is my desire to wow You with my faith. I don't want to amaze You with a lack of faith. Help me walk by faith and not by sight. You are my Lord and my Savior.

Don't be Afraid. Just Have Faith!

Don't be Afraid. Just Have Faith!

Scripture

Mark 5

36 But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

Observation

The situation was completely hopeless for Jairus when the people told him that his daughter was already dead. But Jesus reassured him by saying, "Don't be afraid. Just have faith."

Maybe you need to be reassured today about an impossible situation in your life? Have you taken the situation to Jesus? He is the one that can give you hope. He is the one that can take away your fear.

Application

Our lives must be lives of faith if we are going to please the Lord. I will not be afraid today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me trust You totally today. Don't let me doubt. Help me walk by faith and not by sight. I pray today that You do a Mighty work in the lives of those attending the retreat. I pray that you touch and change lives this Sunday in our worship service. Give me the faith that Jairus must have had that day He walked with Jesus.

Who Is This Man?

Numbers 17; Numbers 18; Psalm 29; Mark 4

Who Is This Man?

Scripture

Mark 4

41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Observation

I love this story. Jesus sleeping while the water is pouring into the boat. The disciples didn't realize at this point in their journey exactly Who they had with them in the boat. If they had realized Who was in the boat with them they too could have been asleep instead of being terrified of the storm around them. They were never in danger of sinking. Jesus was in control.

He gently rebuked their lack of faith and then He immediately spoke and calmed the wind and the seas. Do you understand what kind of miracle this was? The seas were so high that they were crashing over and down into the boat. Jesus spoke and immediately, instantly the seas were calm.

This does not happen except through Divine intervention. It would have taken a long time for the seas to calm down even if the wind immediately stopped blowing. The waves were set in motion and it would have been rough for hours. Jesus had to command the seas to also stop in their tracks. The disciples knew that what happened was impossible except for Divine intervention. They realized that they were in the presence of God Himself!

Application

Storms come into our lives to allow us to look up to the One who loves to calm the seas. He is the Prince of Peace. He is the Great Shepherd. He leads us by quiet waters. He restores my soul. I will trust Him today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know that I love this story. I love the ocean. I love seeing Your Mighty power in storms and I marvel at Your awesome majesty. Thank You for allowing me to know You in a personal way. Thank You for giving me the privilege to call You my Father. I put my trust in You today. Thank You for allowing me to be one of Your disciples.

Burn Out

Numbers 12; Numbers 13; Psalm 90; Mark 2
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Burn Out

Scripture

Psalm 90

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Observation

How many of the Psalms were written by Moses? I don't know either but this is one of them.

The Psalmist cries out to God in the morning to be refreshed and to be renewed. Burn out can happen to any of us, but we don't have to let it continue. We need to come apart and spend time with the Lord before we come apart. Are you burned out this morning? Spend extra time this morning meditating on God's word.

Live is not easy. Life is not going to be easy even if you and I quit every activity or every thing that we are doing for the Lord. Problems are part of life.
Burn out is also a sign that we are just going through the motions and the things that we are doing have just become rituals. The joy is gone. We may have lost touch with the One Who can satisfy us. We may have lost touch with the only Person Who can bring us joy! Does that describe you this morning?

Read Psalm 90. It was written by Moses. He did not have an easy life. In Numbers 12 and 13 that was also part of our reading for this morning we find that even his sister and his brother had turned against him and were putting him down.

Application

I will seek the Lord's face. I will let Him refresh me. I will let Him keep me from burning out.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, keep my friend from burning out. Renew Your Spirit within him. Touch his life. Restore his joy. Allow him to serve You with all his heart. Don't let him give in to the Evil one. Keep him from sin. Help him see the big picture today. Show him how important He is to You. Bless him. Renew his strength. Give him joy. Help him conquer the feelings of defeat. Renew his purpose. Renew his calling. Bless his family. Prosper him in his work place. You are the Mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You. Your arm is not too short to save. Thank You for the joy of my salvation.

God Can Handle Any Situation

Scripture

Numbers 11

23 The LORD answered Moses, “Is the LORD’s arm too short? Now you will see whether or not what I say will come true for you.”

Observation

The Lord had to remind Moses that He was God and there is not anything too hard for Him.

You and I need to be reminded of this fact too.

Tell me a situation in your life that is totally "impossible." God takes the "im" out of the word impossible. That is one word that doesn't even exist to Him. His arm is never too short...never!

Application

I will trust God with those difficult, impossible situations that I encounter today and the rest of this week because they are not difficult or impossible for Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the Mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You. Help me be a person of faith. Help me to hold on and never give up believing in You and Your Mighty Power.

Sharing The Good News

Scripture

Acts 28

28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”

Observation

Most of the people that you and I will speak to today are Gentiles. You probably will not speak to someone that is Jewish even though it is possible it is just not probable (unless you live in New York or South Florida).

God says that the Gentiles are open to the Gospel. Our job is to share it with them. God's job is to open up their hearts so they can believe. Unless God gives them understanding they can't be saved.

Application

I look forward to sharing the Gospel with folks at Mission Tampa today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, give the people understanding of Your Gospel. Help me to share Your message clearly. Don't let me confuse them. I pray that some will be saved today. Open up their minds so that they can understand the Good News.

Are You Content?

Numbers 7; Psalm 23; Acts 27
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Are You Content?

Scripture

Psalm 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

Observation

Can you say with the Psalmist that the Lord is your Shepherd and you have everything that you need? Are you content with what you have? If you are a Christ Follower then knowing how to be content is super important. Whether we have plenty or whether we have little we should be content. God knows exactly what we need and He promises to meet our needs...not our wants.

Discontentment happens when our focus shifts to our wants and off of seeking what God wants.

Application

I am going to thank God for everything that I have. I am content.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, don't let me focus on things that are not on Your heart. In fact, do not let me focus on things period. Help me focus on people and reaching them for You. Put on my heart people that I need to pray for. Give me a grateful heart. You are my shepherd, I lack nothing.

Pray a Blessing On Someone Today

Scripture

Numbers 6

24 “‘“The LORD bless you
and keep you;

25 the LORD make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;

26 the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’

Observation

Do you make it a habit of blessing people? Do you bless your spouse before leaving for work each day? Do you bless your children/grandchildren? Are you in the habit of praying a blessing on people?

God honors are prayers for people when we pray God's blessing on them. He wants to bless them.

Application

I will pray a blessing on someone that crosses my path today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You have empowered us with the ability to not only be a blessing to the people around us but we also have the privilege of asking You to bless them. We are blessed. Help me take advantage of this wonder privilege today.

First Born

First Born

Scripture

Numbers 3

13 for all the firstborn are mine. When I struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, I set apart for myself every firstborn in Israel, whether human or animal. They are to be mine. I am the LORD.”

Observation

Are you the firstborn male in your family? I am. I believe that because I am first born that God has a special claim on my life. It may all be in my head, but I believe that being the first born male carrys with it a higher degree of responsibility to the Lord. Of course, whether we commit ourselves to the Lord depends on us whether we are first born or not and whether we are blessed by God the way He wants to bless us depends on our surrender to Him.

It is amazing that God cares so much for us anyway! It is truly amazing. We don't deserve it. No matter who you are nobody deserves the love that God pours out on us.

Application

I recognize that I belong to the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to live out the relationship that I have with You in a way that brings You joy. Don't let me yield to sin today. I am Yours.

Blessings of Obedience

Scripture

Leviticus 26

3 “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4 I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.

Observation

You would have thought that if the children of Isarael read Leviticus 26 they would have realized the importance of obeying what God said to do. But you and I also read God's word and He gives us the same promises and we also ignore what God promises in His word.

Our natural tendency is to disobey and it seems that disobedience comes a lot easier for us than obedience does.
It is a daily choice we must make. What is your choice for today?

Application

It is my desire and my intention to obey the Lord as I go through this day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to remember Your promise of blessing for being obedient. Don't let me default to disobedience. I want to make You smile today. Help me do just that.

Scripture

Psalm 25

5 Guide me in your truth and teach me,

and my hope is in you all day long.

Observation

Is this the desire of your heart today? If it is then ask God to show you, teach you, and guide you through this day.

Application

I will ask God to show me, teach me, and guide me as I go through this day.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that I can depend and trust in Your word. Your word this morning tells me that I can ask You to show me, that I can ask You to teach me, and that I can ask You to guide me through this day. Clean Hands Pure Hearts

Scripture

Psalm 24

1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;

2 for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

3 Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 The one who has clean hands and a pure heart..."

Observation

Do you want God's Hand of blessing on your life? You need to have pure hands and a pure heart. God wants to bless us. He wants the best for us. Obedience is the key to receiving God's blessing.

We belong to the Lord. We are His. But we must yield everything to Him and we must do it on a daily basis. Yesterday's obedience is not enough for today. We need to start each morning with a heart open and yielded to the Lord.
Do you want to stand in His holy place? I do.

Application

This morning I will seek God's face.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I want to have clean hands and a pure heart. I don't want to live away from You. I want to live in Your presence and I want to live under Your leadership. Guide and direct me today. Give Yourself Away

Scripture

Acts 20

35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering

Observation

What is the matter this morning? Are you bummed out? Maybe you and I need to put into practice this verse today. Let's give ourselves away today serving others. Paul said that it was hard work. But it is the way to receive God's blessing.

Application

I will concentrate on serving others today.

God is so good to me.

Scripture

Psalm 13

5 But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing the LORD’s praise,
for he has been good to me.

Observation

But…I will trust in the Lord’s unfailing love. There are lots of trials, lots of things that go on in life, but…I will trust in His unfailing love. Who will you trust in? Will you trust in yourself? I hope not.

Do you have a song in your heart today? Is it a song to the Lord? “I will sing the LORD’s praise, for He is good to me.”

Who or what will get your trust today? Who or what will you sing about today? The choice is ours!

Application

I will trust in God’s unfailing love and I will sing praises to Him today.

Do Not Be Afraid…

Do Not Be Afraid…

Scripture

Acts 18

9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.” 11 So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

Observation

Fear! The Lord told Paul not to be afraid probably because Paul was starting to be afraid. The Devil uses our “fears” to keep us from being all that God wants us to be. I like what the Lord told Paul in verse ten, “For I am with you…” If God is with us then we have it made. Nothing is going to happen to us that hasn’t passed through God’s hands before it reaches us.

What are you afraid of? The Devil knows where we are weak and that is where he will attack us.

There are two phrases that are used by God over and over again throughout the Bible: 1. Do not be afraid. 2. I am with you. If God is with us then there is no need to be afraid. If God is for us then it doesn’t matter if people are against us. God is good. He is with us. We do not need to fear.

Application

I will trust the Lord today and give Him all of my fears.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to walk with You by faith. Don’t let me be afraid. I know that You are with me. You are my Strength! You are my Confidence! I will not be afraid.

Midnight Prayer Rally

Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Midnight Prayer Rally

Scripture

Acts 16

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.

Observation

What would you be doing at midnight if you had just been beaten and thrown into a jail cell? Paul and Silas were praying and singing and had everyone else in the jail listening to them. They had a captive audience.

This is a fascinating story. Have you ever thought about this story and wondered what it would have been like to be in that jail that night? The prisoners knew that there was something different about these two new prisoners.

When the earthquake happened and the jail doors flew open not one prisoner tried to escape. They knew Who caused the earthquake. I wonder how many of those prisoners became Christ Followers that night along with the jailer and his entire family.

Praising God instead of complaining, singing instead of whining, I think that there is a lesson in this story for all of us.

Application

Paul and Silas experienced the beating and time in jail so others could come to Christ. Am I willing to make sacrifices so others come to Jesus? I will think of ways to reach out to people even if it involves personal sacrifice so they have the chance to know Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me think of other people more than myself this week. Show me ways that I can minister to people in a way that will help them find You.

Standing Up For People

Standing Up For People

Scripture

Acts 15

36 Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” 37 Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38 but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39 They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40 but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Observation

There was a time when no one believed in Paul and Barnabas stood up for him. This time Paul didn’t believe in John Mark, but Barnabas did and Barnabas stood up for John Mark. It cost Barnabas dearly but John Mark was worth it. Later we read that Paul is requesting that they send Mark to him to help him so they must have gotten everything worked out between them later on.
Who do you need to stand up for? Who needs our help? It may cost us. Are you willing to risk your reputation or your friendships to stand up for someone that no one else believes in?

Application

I will look for someone today that needs my help.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be like Barnabas today. Give me the compassion and the strength to stand up for people so they can become all that You want them to be.

God Promises Us An Abundant Life, But Not An Easy Life

Scripture

Acts 14

21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

Observation

Sometimes we think or at least I do that the Christian life is supposed to be an easy life, but nowhere in scripture do we find this false idea. The Christian life is a battle. We are in spiritual warfare and it is never going to be easy. God is Mighty and could make this life of ours a cakewalk, but if He did we would never grow spiritually. We grow the best under trials.

Application

I will not grumble as I face the challenges of this day.

Heavenly Father, help me not to grumble. Give me joy today. Show me Your Power and Your Goodness!

Appointed For Eternal Life

Appointed For Eternal Life

Scripture

Acts 13

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

Observation

All we have to do is share the Good News of Jesus Christ and all who are appointed for eternal life will be saved. God saves we share. If we don’t share then God doesn’t save. We are His witnesses. We are His “mouth piece” to communicate this Good News to the entire world. There are people that have been appointed that are ready and waiting to trust Christ as soon as they find out about Him.
We must be ready to share Christ with everyone.

Application

I will ask God to help me share the Good Gospel clearly and as often as He gives me the opportunity.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for saving me. Give me the opportunity to share about Jesus with people this week. Help me make it very clear so they understand how to be saved.

Who Is In Charge?

Who Is In Charge?

Scripture

Acts 12

23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
24 But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.

Observation

With all the unrest and turmoil that is happening around the world and even in our own country I think sometimes we need to stop and think about who is really in charge. It may seem like things are out of control, but they are not out of His control. God is Sovereign. He is on His throne. He is still in control. Herod thought that he was god. God reminded Herod and everyone else around him that Herod was only a man.

I like verse 24, “But the word of God continued to spread and flourish.” It shows me that no matter what kind of turmoil happens in our world or our country or even at our house the word of God will continue to spread and flourish.
God is Sovereign! He is on His Throne. His plans will happen. His promises will all come to pass.

Application

I will serve the Lord today knowing that He is in control.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are the Mighty King. You are in control. May Your word continue to spread and flourish.

Two Prayers

Scripture

Psalm 19

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Acts 11
21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

Observation

Here are two prayers for this day: 1. That the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to my Lord. 2. That the Lord’s hand would be on our church.

Every morning it is super important that we spend time in God’s word so that our thoughts be tempered and influenced by God’s Holy Spirit. Otherwise we default to operating in our old nature and its evil desires take over and will control our thought life. And whatever is in our hearts will come out, first in our words and then in our actions.

Application

I will ask God to help focus and dwell on His Word today. I will ask Him to continue to keep His hand on our church.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. I pray that Your Hand continue to be on Your church and that it would continue to grow. You are Mighty to save.

Forgiveness is A Gift

Scripture

Acts 10

43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Romans 6

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Observation

Simon Peter went to Cornelius’ house and everyone in his home received the gift of the forgiveness of his or her sins. Are you forgiven? If you don’t know what I am talking about then let me assure you that you have never received the gift of eternal life. You have never been forgiven of your sins.

It is the Good News that you and I need to share with the world and that Good News is this that Jesus Christ came to save sinners. He came to give us the gift of forgiveness. Have you been forgiven? Are you sharing with others about this forgiveness that only comes through a personal relationship with Jesus.

Application

I will continue to look for opportunities to share with people that God has already prepared to hear the Good News.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me be sensitive today to Your leading and help me take advantage of every opportunity to share my faith.

Psalm 16

8 I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Observation

Where do your eyes stay focused? Keep your eyes on the Lord and you will not be shaken. Is the Lord at your right hand? This is a powerful Psalm.

1 Keep me safe, my God,
for in you I take refuge.

2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”

Where do you take refuge? God will keep you safe if you make God your refuge. Can you say like the Psalmist, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing?”

Application

I will delight in my relationship with the Lord today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, keep me safe, for in you I take refuge. You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing. I will keep my eyes always on You. With You at my right hand I will not be shaken.

A Serious Prayer For The Lost!

Scripture

Exodus 32

32 But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!”

Observation

How much are you willing to lose so that others can find Christ? Moses was willing to give up his salvation for the salvation of his fellow Israelites. They were stubborn and disobedient, but Moses cried out to God pleading with God that He not destroy them. What are you willing to give up? What am I willing to forfeit so others hear about Jesus?

Jesus promises to bless those that leave family, friends, houses etc. to follow Him. The cost is worth it. It is easy to get too comfortable and to get to a place where we are not willing to sacrifice.

In this situation Moses set the bar high for how we should intercede for the people around us. These are the same people that wanted to stone Moses. The same people that had already rebelled and talked about replacing Moses yet Moses still was willing to give up his very soul for them. Hmm…what are we willing to sacrifice?

Application

I will sacrifice my time, my money and my comfort to see others come to Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, when I don’t feel like reaching out to others would You remind me that my calling is to do just that. Help me to keep my focus off of myself and on the well being of others. Give me Your heart for people today. Help me to love them like You love them. I pray that Your hand continues to be on our church. Thank You for what You did this past Sunday. You are Mighty to save!
