True Worship

True Worship

Scripture

Romans 12

“...I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.”

Observation

People that fuss and complain about a Sunday morning worship service have completely missed how we are to truly worship the Lord. When we give our bodies to God and offer them as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable then what happens on Sunday mornings in corporate worship is just “icing on the cake”!

I am glad when our worship service goes well on Sunday morning but I am not glad for myself I am glad for the others that are attending. This past Sunday there was a lot of decisions for Christ. A lot of people publicly expressed a desire to move closer to the Lord and that is what I get excited about.

I try not to get wrapped up on whether the music was too loud or stuff like that because true worship is what happens before I even get to the church. It is a daily choice of giving God my body as a living sacrifice and keeping it pure and acceptable to Him.

Application

I will strive to keep my body a living sacrifice to God.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, this morning I give You my body as a living sacrifice. Help me to keep myself clean and pure. I want to keep myself acceptable to You. Worshiping You starts right now. It is not just on Sunday morning.

Everything Is Intended For God's Glory!

Proverbs 13; Proverbs 14; Proverbs 15; Romans 11

Everything Is Intended For God's Glory!

Scripture

Romans 11

33 Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

34 For who can know the Lord’s thoughts?
Who knows enough to give him advice?

35 And who has given him so much that he needs to pay it back?

36 For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Observation

God ways are so much higher than our ways. We don't get the big picture. We can't see things from God's perspective. Romans 11 is a difficult passage to understand because it is impossible for us to understand God's decisions and His ways. I don't understand where Paul says that God hardens hearts and some are chosen and some hearts are hardened instead. I am thankful that my heart was open and God prepared me to accept the Gospel. I don't understand why He did that for me either, but I am very grateful.

I am glad that God has everything under His control and nothing surprises Him. Everything exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever!

Application

I will try to bring God glory today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, everything comes from You and everything exists by Your power. Everything is intended for Your glory. All glory to You forever! Amen.

God's Way To Be Saved

Proverbs 10; Proverbs 11; Proverbs 12; Romans 10

God's Way To Be Saved

Scripture

Romans 10

9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Observation

God's way to be made right with Him is completely different than the way man thinks about getting right with God. Most people believe that if they just do enough good stuff then God will let them in to His Heaven. The problem with that idea is that God doesn't let us in to His Heaven based on our goodness.

We are sinners that deserve to go to Hell. Heaven is a perfect place. We must have our sins forgiven and the penalty of our sins paid for to be able to go to Heaven. Are you forgiven? Have you shared the Good News that Jesus saves with anyone this week. Is someone closer to Heaven because of your witness to them?

Application

I will look for a chance to show someone God's way to relationship with Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Give me the ability to share with people clearly Your way of salvation. Thank You for saving me. Now help me share this Good News with the people around me. You are a Mighty God. I pray for people to be saved today. I pray for a mighty out pouring of Your Holy Spirit today in our worship service. I pray for Your Hand to be on our church today.

Nobodies and Make Them Somebodies

Nobodies and Make Them Somebodies

Scripture

Romans 9

25 “...Hosea put it well:
I'll call nobodies and make them somebodies;
I'll call the unloved and make them beloved.
In the place where they yelled out, "You're nobody!"
they're calling you "God's living children." (Message)

Observation

I was a nobody before I came to Christ. Now I am a somebody. I am a child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. I am a child of God. I am a somebody. Are you a nobody or have you become a somebody?

You can't become a “somebody” on your own. You can only become a “somebody” when you surrender your life to the Lord Jesus Christ and turn from your sins. Only those that humble themselves and realize that that they are nobodies can become “somebodies”.

If you think you are a “somebody” but you haven't given your life to Christ then even though you think you are a “somebody” you are just a “nobody”.

Application

I am glad that God to a nobody like me and only by grace am I am somebody today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me eternal life. Thank You for allowing me to become one of Your children. I am a King's Kid. I am a somebody. Thank You for giving me the power to accomplish all that You have put on my heart to do today. You are a Mighty God. Nothing is too hard for You.

And We Know...

Proverbs 4; Proverbs 5; Proverbs 6; Romans 8
Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

And We Know...

Scripture

Romans 8

28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Observation

This week I found out that a very good friend of ours is getting ready to have open heart surgery. And I also heard this week that another very good friend of mine found out that prostate cancer that he has already been through treatment for has returned to pay another visit. As I read this verse I thought about both of them. The word “everything” in this verse would include “open heart surgery” and “prostate cancer”.

God's promise to His children is that He will cause “everything” to work together for the good of those who Him. I know it is true.

My one friend that has to have the heart surgery was already praising God because they found the problem (3 blocked arteries, 70%, 80%, 90%) before he had a heart attack. Romans 8:28 already at work!

Just having a Heavenly Father that will walk with us through these difficult times is a huge encouragement. We are not like those that are without hope.

Application

I will pray for my friends knowing that God is going to take care of them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are Healer. I pray for both of my friends today. I ask You to work Mightily in their lives. Show them how Good you are and how much You Love them. I pray that during this time of sickness they will see Your Hand at work in their lives. Give them strength. Give them opportunities to shine for You. May they bring You honor and glory. May they totally trust in You.

Give Him The Best!

Scripture

Proverbs 3

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
and with the best part of everything you produce.
10 Then he will fill your barns with grain,
and your vats will overflow with good wine.

Observation

These verses are all linked together. I don't think that you can experience verses five and six without living out verses out nine and ten.
Give the Lord your best. Then he will supply all that you need.

Application

I will trust the Lord with all my heart and I will give God the best of everything I have.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to trust You with all my heart. Help me not depend on my own resources. Help me to give back to You the first of everything that I receive from You. I know that I cannot out give You. You have blessed me with so much. You are so very good. Thank You for supplying everything that I have ever needed.

Re-Gifting The Gift of Eternal Life

Re-Gifting The Gift of Eternal Life

Scripture

Romans 6

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Observation

Do you re-gift some of your Christmas gifts? I am sure that you probably do, but here is one gift that is entirely OK to re-gift in fact we are commanded to re-gift this gift. We get to share the gift with others that we received from God which is the gift of forgiveness and with the gift of forgiveness we receive Eternal life.
Who needs this gift?

Application

I will look around today and I will be ready to re-gift this precious gift of Eternal Life. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for my friend Don Kennedy today. I am asking You to touch His body and make him completely well. Do this for Your honor and for Your glory. Give me the opportunity to share the gift of eternal life with someone this week. I pray for Major and Tyrone that they would follow You and they would be in church this Sunday.

Utterly Helpless & Totally Sinful … Yet … He Died For You and Me

Scripture

Romans 5

6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Observation

It would be impossible to save ourselves from our sinfulness. How can we do anything with our sins. Only Jesus can take away the penalty of our sins. Heaven is a perfect place and we need our sins forgiven to be able to gain entrance into its Pearly Gates.

Application

I will continue to share Romans 5:8 with people so they don't think they can be good enough to go to Heaven.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me share the Gospel clearly as I have the chance to talk to people about You. I pray for those that I shared with yesterday at Mission Tampa. I pray for Major and Tyrone that they would get anchored into a church and I pray that You transform their lives into what You have called them to be. I pray for my family that you would turn each of their minds and each of their hearts towards You. I pray that they would have a personal relationship with You. I pray that they could experience friendship with You that only comes through knowing Jesus Christ.

Even When There Was No Reason For Hope

Scripture

Romans 4

17 “...This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.

18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations.”

Observation

Are you at the end of your rope? Do you feel that there is no reason for hope? May I suggest that you take your eyes off of your circumstances and put them on the God who brings the dead back to life and creates new things out of nothing!

You and I never have to be hopeless. There is always hope for us when we look up and place our trust in our God that keeps His promises. Do you know any promise that God has made that He hasn't kept?

Application

I will trust Him with the details of my life today. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, life continues to go on day after day and circumstances that bombard us can wear us down. You are the God who can create something new out of nothing. You are the God that can take something dead and breathe life back into it. Abraham believed in You when it seemed hopeless for him. You did the impossible and gave them a child in their old age. I know that You can do the same thing for me. I need to trust You. Today Lord I hold onto Your promises. I am counting on You.

You Gotta Have Faith

Scripture

Romans 3

22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Observation

To be right with God you have to place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You must trust in Him and in what He did for us on the cross. We are made right with God when we place our faith in Jesus. Today as you go through this day take time to worship the King of King and the Lord of Lords. Don't just go through the motions. Take time to worship!

Application

I will worship the Lord today beginning right now.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I know that I can worship You right now. You are the Creator God. You deserve my devotion, my worship. Today I acknowledge You as Sovereign King. You are the Lord of my life. Help me to make You smile today. Give me the strength and the power to honor You with my actions and my thoughts and attitudes. Help me to love people like You love them. Give me Your heart.

God's Kindness Turns People Away From Sin

God's Kindness Turns People Away From Sin

Scripture

Romans 2

4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Observation

Ever wonder why God just doesn't zap people? Here is the reason, “His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin.” The reason why doesn't zap all of us is because He is trying to turn our hearts away from sin with His kindness. Otherwise we would all be “toast” because we are all sinners.

Application

Kindness is love in action. It is not an attitude it is action. I will look for someone to be kind to today!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You don't give me what I deserve. You give me kindness when I should receive punishment. You are a God of Grace and Mercy and You are totally kind. Help me be a person of Grace, Kindness, and Mercy to people that do not deserve it so they can see Jesus in me.

Don't Get Tired of Doing Good!

Scripture

2 Thessalonians 3

13 As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.

Observation

Do you ever get tired of doing good? I know when I do it is because I am doing good things but with the wrong motive or attitude.

God wants us to shine. He wants us to do good stuff. He wants us to serve others. He wants us to be self less. So how do you do this?

How about Col. 3:17 “And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”

Application

I will strive to do good today with a good attitude. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be concerned about others and help me not to be focused on myself.

Scripture

2 Thessalonians 2

Observation

Scripture

11 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.

Observation

We should pray for each other. Our prayers need to be specific. They need to be urgent.

Application

I will pray for people as the Lord brings them to my mind.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for Dan Platt. I pray for healing. I pray for others that need Your touch. I pray for Barry Huffman. I pray for Pastor Bruce and Heather that You help them lead our church. I pray that you empower them to do the things You want them to accomplish. You are a Mighty God.

Click Here To Read Or Listen To Today’s Daily Bible Reading

Is This Something That Would Please God?

Scripture

1 Thessalonians 4

7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives.

Observation

When I hear of someone trying to justify something that they are doing whether it is drinking, gambling, etc. they miss the whole point of God's Word. God has called us to live holy lives. Is what I am doing something that God would do? Does it bring Him Glory. If it doesn't bring Him glory then it definitely wouldn't be considered something that is pure.

What am I doing that would not bring God glory and honor? If I can think of some things then those are the things that keep me from living a holy life.

Application

I will change anything that I am doing that would not bring God honor and glory as He brings it to my attention.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You have called me to be holy. Help me stay away from things that cause me to sin. And show me anything habit in my life that keeps me from being holy and pure.

Overflowing Love

Scripture

1 Thessalonians 3

12 “And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.”

Observation

When is a glass full? It is full only when it begins to overflow! Are you full of God's love? Am I? Is it splashing all over everyone around me. Is it overflowing and touching those that I come in contact with. Paul's prayer for those at the church in Thessalonica was that their love grow until it overflowed.

He was saying, “The way we love you is the way you should love everyone else.” It was Paul's prayer for them.

Application

I will pray this prayer for the people around me today.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help my love grow and grow until it overflows on everyone around me. I pray for those that I love that their love would continue to grow until it overflows on everyone around them. Bless my family today. Bless our church. Help it continue to grow and continue to reach people for You.

You Are My Rock!

Scripture

2 Samuel 22

...“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; 3 my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.

Observation

I don't want to be chased down like King David was for most of his life, but I would like to be able to express my love for God and my confidence in God like David does. Wow! He sang these chapters to the Lord. Other people later used them to sing to the Lord and today song writers still use these Psalms and make songs out of them.

Application

I will claim like David did that God is my rock, my fortress, and my savior. He is my shield, and the Power that saves me. I will meditate on this all day long.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You are my rock, my fortress, and my savior. You are my rock where I find protection. You are my shield. You are the Power that saves me and You are my place of safety. Thank You for being such a great God and wonderful Heavenly Father. Amen.

Give Your Burdens to the Lord

Scripture

Psalm 55

16 But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.

17 Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress,
and the Lord hears my voice.

22 Give your burdens to the Lord,
and he will take care of you.

Observation

Have you ever thought about the struggle King David had his entire life? There were always people trying to kill him. Have you ever counted up all of his enemies? Out of these struggles come the Psalms that were written many of them by David when people were trying to destroy him. Joab was no friend, and David was not able to do anything about his betrayal until his death but right before he died he told Solomon to take care of him.

Application

I will roll off my burdens onto the Lord and He will take care of me.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know the things that burden my heart today. I roll them off on You. I call on You and I know that You hear my prayers and I know that You will answer me.

I Will Not Be Afraid

Scripture

Psalm 56

3 But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you.

Observation

Do you ever get afraid? Fear is a terrible thing. I am not usually afraid of people, but there has been a few times on the mission field where I definitely was afraid of those around me. Usually my fears deal with the possibility of a failure on my part or fear when things out in the future are so uncertain. When fear comes over me I am reminded where or better yet Who I should put my trust in.

God loves me. He loves you. He wants to walk through life with us. He desires to be close to us. He is as close as we let Him be. The distance between us and God is what we put there not Him. David understood this and he turned to God when things looked bleak or impossible. Most of his life was spent running away from people that wanted to kill him... Think about that!

Application

When I am afraid I will trust in the Lord.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You know my fears. You know what causes me not to sleep at night. You are my fortress! You are the wall around me. I put my trust in You. You are my protector. You are my strength. I will not fear.

Proclaiming Your Power To The New Generation

Scripture

Psalm 71

18 Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God.

Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Observation

We must always look at sharing the Gospel with the new generation. We must never be satisfied with letting church be all about us. It must be all about them. The them being those that have never heard or at least those that have never accepted the message of the Gospel.

We must be more concerned about lives being changed than about what we like and dislike.

It is all about reaching the people that come after us. The only way to think this way is to be constantly in God's word and constantly outwardly focused.

Application

I will think of new ways to proclaim His message to this new generation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, don't ever let me act old. Even though I am old and gray do not let me focus on the things that don't matter to You. Help me focus on reaching this new generation. You are the Mighty God. They need a relationship with You. We have to reach them. Give our church leaders the energy and the determination to reach this new generation.

Observation

What Are You Willing To Sacrifice?

Scripture

Psalm 51

16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one.
You do not want a burnt offering.
17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit.
You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Observation

Sacrifice! What sacrifice are you willing to make? How about the sacrifice of a broken spirit. Humility and brokenness is a sacrifice that God loves to accept. Pride is not something that gets us very far with God.

David had just sinned with Bathsheba and the prophet Nathan was sent by God to let David know that he wasn't going to get away with that sin!
David realized his need for forgiveness and repentance and cried out to God for God to forgive him.

Application

People need forgiveness. God accepts the sacrifice of a broken and contrite spirit. I will guard myself from making the same exact sin as David.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, guard my eyes so I don't do anything stupid like King David did. Help me to stay focused on the main thing which is sharing my faith and helping others grow in Christ. Help me to do just that.

Mountain Moving Faith

Mountain Moving Faith

Scripture

Matthew 21

21...You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

Observation

Moved any mountains lately? You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it. I think that Jesus meant what He said when He told us this in Matthew 21. I don't think He would lie to us … do you?

So much in our lives is out of our control and without Divine intervention we are toast! So why not live by faith and trust God with those things that seem to us to be impossible. To be able to tell a mountain to get up and be thrown into the sea is way beyond what we normally ask God for isn't it. How is your prayer life? What is the biggest thing you are believing God for today? What is the biggest thing that I am trusting him for? You can pray for anything, last time I check the word anything meant “everything”. Nothing is too hard for God!

Application

I will continue to pray for those things in my life that so far have been totally impossible because I know that with God nothing is impossible.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am reminded today of what a Great God I serve and with You there is not one thing in my life that is impossible. I pray for our church. I pray that Your hand would continue to be on our church. I pray for Pastor Bruce and Heather and I ask that You bless and prosper them. Keep them away from evil. I pray for those in our family that need a closer relationship with You. I pray that You turn their hearts towards You and I pray that they would be able to experience the abundant life that You promise all that follow You. Their unbelief is a huge mountain that needs to be moved. I serve a mountain moving God who is more than able to turn their minds and their hearts toward Him.

So You Want To Lead?

Scripture

Matthew 20

26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Observation

Everybody wants to be the boss. Everybody wants to be the top dog. Jesus says that the way to be a true leader is to be a slave. If you want to be a leader then you must become a servant.

Are you willing? Am I?

The disciples were desiring the top positions in the Kingdom of Heaven and Jesus warned them that to even come close to getting those positions it would mean terrible suffering and hardship.

Slavery is not something that we embrace, but Jesus said that you and I must become slaves to those that we want to lead. Are we willing? We better count the cost.

Application

I want to be a servant/slave today to those around me so I can lead.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me serve those around me like Jesus would do if He was walking this earth today. Give me Your heart for people.

But With God Everything Is Possible!

But With God Everything Is Possible!

Scripture

Matthew 19

25 The disciples were astounded. “Then who in the world can be saved?” they asked.
26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

Observation

Humanly speaking there are a lot of things that are impossible, but with God everything is possible. Salvation, humanly speaking is something that is impossible because we can't save ourselves but God can save us.

None of us deserve to be saved. We are all rotten sinners and there is no way for us to get into Heaven on our own efforts. We deserve to go to Hell.

I love this glimpse of Jesus with his disciples when the scripture says, “Jesus looked at them intently...” I wonder as He looked at them if His mind went to the cross and the thought of what He would go through to provide the way for them to be saved. He understood that at that moment they were basing salvation on human effort and not on Divine Intervention. Jesus came to this earth to save sinners! He had a Divine appointment with the cross.

Application

The Good News is that Salvation is possible through the Lord Jesus Christ and that Good News is to be shared with the world around us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, the Good News today is “Jesus” and the eternal salvation He offers everyone who calls on Him. Osama Bin Laden's death is news. I don't think it is all that good of news. There will be just more killing because of his death. What the people need in this world is Jesus. Help us take the message of “salvation” to a world that is swirling out of control away from You. I pray that the real “Good News” will be able to penetrate even the darkest places on this planet. Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with You God everything is possible.

LinkServing is The Way to Greatness!

Scripture

Matthew 18

1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”

Observation

Do you think much about the Kingdom of Heaven? Have you ever thought about who would be the greatest in the Kingdom? You could be the greatest you know. All you have to do is to put into practice – serving others!

How are you doing in the area of serving? Do you like to be served instead of doing the serving?

Do you want to be great in the Kingdom of God then start serving now?

Application

I will serve today and I will try my best to do it with a smile. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, remind me as I go through this day that this day is not about me. It is all about serving those that you place in front of me. I pray for strength today to serve You with the right attitude. Help me to see Your hand in everything that happens today. I pray that Your hand would be on our church today in a powerful way!
