And So, Lord, Where Do I Put My Hope? My Only Hope Is In You.

And So, Lord,
Where Do I Put My Hope?
My Only Hope Is In You.
Scripture
Psalm 39
7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.
Observation

When someone takes their own life it is usually because life has become hopeless for them and they somehow see ending everything as the only solution to their problems.

You and I were created to live forever. So if I end my life here on earth that doesn't mean I cease to exist. Our time here on earth is very short … our existence is forever!

Can a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ cut short his or her own life? Absolutely!

Several years ago, a pastor friend of mine took his own life. I don't know what was happening in his life that made his life feel so hopeless. He had moved away from Tampa and was living in a different state when he decided to make that terrible decision.

It is not the unforgivable sin. The only sin that is unforgivable is rejecting God's Holy Spirit and His Gospel.

So where do you and I put our hope when the situation seems hopeless? I suggest we do as King David did in Psalm 39:7, “And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”

Psalm 33:22
Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone.
Psalm 42:11
Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!
Psalm 62:5
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.
Psalm 119:114
You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.
Romans 15:4
4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
1 Corinthians 13:7,13
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. … Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
Hebrews 6:19
This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
Hebrews 10:23
23 Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
1 Peter 1:21
Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.
Application

I will trust in God alone when my life seems to be out of control and hopeless. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope that I have in You. I place my faith and my hope in You because You raised Jesus Christ from the dead and have given Him great glory. This hope is a trustworthy anchor for my soul. You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope. I will wait quietly before You my God, for my hope is in You.
