Therefore, Dear Brothers And Sisters, You Have No Obligation To Do What Your Sinful Nature Urges You To Do.

Therefore, Dear Brothers And Sisters,
You Have No Obligation To Do
What Your Sinful Nature Urges You To Do.
Scripture
Romans 8
10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.
11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,  you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
Observation
Are you a follower of Jesus Christ and yet still find yourself a slave to an addiction like – drinking, smoking, drugs, gambling, sexual immorality, pornography, food, etc.?
My friend, you and I have no obligation to do what our sinful nature urges us to do! The same Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in us.
If you find yourself a slave to something, whatever it is, the first step is to admit it to yourself and then share that you are struggling in that area with someone else.
The next step is to get help!
Pride, sinful pride, keeps so many Christians trapped … don't let it trap you. Get help!
Our church and many other churches in our community have a ministry called “Celebrate Recovery”. It can help you break free!
It is so painful for me to watch lives, watch marriages, watch someone's future go down the drain because of sinful pride and a refusal to get help.
Don't be a casualty of Satan's schemes. Get help today ... and walk in sobriety and walk in victory!
John 8
36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
Galatians 5
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these.
Application
I will guard myself against what my sinful nature urges me to do. How about you?
Prayer

Heavenly Father, Your Holy Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead lives in me so I know that I have no excuse when I yield to the urges of my sinful nature.

I pray for those close to me who are trapped right now, slaves to drinking, slaves to drugs, slaves to sexual immorality, slaves to food, and slaves to so many other things; set them free Lord. Set them free. Give them the courage to admit that they have a problem. Don't let them try to continue to practice these sins in secret without getting help. Set them free Lord. Don't let them destroy their marriages, their relationship with their children, their health, their relationship with other brothers and sisters, and their testimony with those who are not yet Christ followers.
