Scripture

Luke 15

1 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!

Observation

Have you ever heard someone say at church, “The leaders are always talking about reaching new people, but what about us - what are they doing for us?” It was not much different during the days when Jesus walked this earth and spent His time with tax collectors and notorious sinners and He had the religious leaders complaining about it – is there?

I believe that some notorious sinners would love to hear us teach too if we take time to be around them. I know that this is a problem that I have as a pastor of a church is being able to spend time with people that are lost … people that don’t already have a personal relationship with Jesus. This is the lesson for me this morning, “there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!”

Application

I will look for someone today that needs to be “found”!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Heaven must be an exciting place if every time someone comes to Christ there is a celebration and a party! Help me to focus on the really important stuff today. I pray for an opportunity to share Christ. I pray for our leadership in our government as they vote. Give them wisdom and may true leaders emerge that have a Word from You for the right direction that our country should take. I pray for our President that you give him wisdom and boldness to do what is right as well as the others that are leading us. In Jesus Name Amen.
