Scripture
Psalm 104
How many are your works, O LORD!
In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
25 There is the sea, vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.
26 There the ships go to and fro,
and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
27 These all look to you
to give them their food at the proper time.
31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD rejoice in his works-
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,
who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,
as I rejoice in the LORD.
35… Praise the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD.
Observation
Do you know this about us yet? Kathy and I love the beach!
When we first started dating we would skip school and head for the beach! Did I just say that!
I hope my grandkids don’t read this! Over the past 39 years we have accumulated so many wonderful memories of times at the beach. Sometimes in our pilgrimage the beach would be Casitas in the state of Vera Cruz, Mexico, or Manzanillo, Mexico, Cancun, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, or Acapulco, Mexico (just to name a few). We have experienced the beaches of France, Spain, and Morocco. Visiting Normandy beach in France where so many of our soldiers died to keep us free was an unforgettable experience. Kathy and I enjoyed exploring the beaches around southern Spain while we lived in Malaga. Of all the beaches that we have had the opportunity to enjoy from the Outer Banks, Tybee Island, Hawaii etc. our favorite is still Indian Shores (when I say Indian Shores this includes Clearwater to Ft. Desoto).
You see it was on June 3, 1969 on graduation day that I proposed to Kathy…and of course, we were at the beach!
I love the beach because it shows off God’s Power. It shows off His Majesty. He is an Awesome Creator God and to think that He loves you and me! Plus God has given me (or at least allowed me to have) this love for fishing.
Application
Go to the beach! We will be there all next week. I will probably not be able to blog while I am on the beach! I will be too busy …fishing…spending time hopefully with my grandkids…and walking the beach with the one I love the most in the whole world…Kathy!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are an Awesome Creator God. I can’t believe that you love me. When I see all that you have created and realize that you created it for me I am filled with awe. I love all that you have done. Thank you for making such a cool beach just for me…and a few other thousand people too. Bless our church and continue to work in the lives of our people. Praise the Lord. O my soul. Praise the Lord! Amen.

Give Me an Undivided Heart!
Amos 4; Amos 5; Amos 6; Psalm 86; Titus 1

Scripture
Psalm 86
A prayer of David.
1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
You are my God; save your servant
who trusts in you.
3 Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for I call to you all day long.
10 For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
you alone are God.
11 Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
12 I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.
15 But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Observation
What a great prayer! This is a great prayer for you and I today. Lord, give us an undivided heart! David was smart and he knew what to ask for, and God gave it to Him. God says about David in Psalms 78:72 “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.” It is only said of King David that he was “a man after God’s own heart.” It is so easy to have our hearts messed up with stuff that is not important, that doesn’t matter, sin, or just worldliness. It is too easy to have a heart that is divided.
Application
Pray and ask God for an undivided heart. A heart focused on him and on his kingdom. Our citizenship is in Heaven, not on earth.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are all powerful and absolutely nothing is too hard for you. Would you give me an undivided heart today? Would you help me to seek you with all my heart. I want to focus on you today. I want to think more about your kingdom today than anything else. Even with having to get ready to go on vacation today I ask you to help me think more about you and your kingdom than the week of vacation that starts tomorrow. You are so awesome. As David says in verse 10, “For you are great and do marvelous deeds.” Amen

Be Ready to Preach!

Scripture
2 Timothy 4:2
"Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction."
Observation
When we served as missionaries in Mexico, I always had to be ready to preach anytime I visited one of our Mexican Baptist churches. The pastor would usually ask me to preach as soon as I arrived. It was not because he didn’t want to preach, but it was I was the honored guest and preaching was a very high honor. My kids got tired of some of my messages that they heard repeatedly and even today, they could probably preach them. But we need to be able to proclaim the Gospel anytime that God gives us the opportunity. It could be at your work place today or at a restaurant or a grocery store; it may be anywhere. Are you ready?
Application
I am glad that we have Good News to share with people. Let’s look for an opportunity to be a witness today!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be a witness today. Give me the opportunity to share with someone about you. You word is so powerful. Help me to think about it all day today. You are my Rock. You are my hiding place today. Give me the strength and energy to live for you today. Amen.

Feeling Any Heat?
2 Kings 13; 2 Kings 14; 2 Chronicles 25; 2 Timothy 3
Today’s "Life Journal" Daily Bible Reading can be found on Line. Click Here!
Scripture
2 Timothy 3
2 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
Observation
If you think that the Christian life is supposed to be all fun and games then you need to memorize 2 Timothy 3:2! Problems, persecution, attacks, and spiritual warfare is what Christians need to expect on a daily basis.
Life is tough for everyone, Christians and Non-Christians alike face problems and trials, but Christians face even more than those without Christ.
Persecution and hardships should be expected. Hebrews 12:7 “Endure hardship as discipline…” So do you want to live a Godly life…then expect persecution…expect opposition!
Application
Don’t be surprised if you have enemies in life. How you handle the persecution that comes from these enemies is what counts! How are you handling the heat?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your inspired Word that is living and powerful. Thank you that you are powerfully working in my life today and in the lives of those around me. You are so wonderful and so awesome and worthy of praise!

Jonah – The Story of God’s Great Love!
Jonah 1; Jonah 2; Jonah 3; Jonah 4; 2 Timothy 2

Scripture
Jonah's Anger at the Lord 's Compassion
1 But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. 2 He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3 Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."
4 But the LORD replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"
5 Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city. 6 Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine. 7 But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."
9 But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?"
"I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."
10 But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
Observation
The story of Jonah and the great fish is really a story all about God and his great love for people. Listen to God’s heart in verses 10 and 11, “But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"
This story also shows God’s great patience with his servants. He did not give up on Jonah even though Jonah was disobedient and full of hatred and prejudice for the people of Nineveh.
Application
Are you prejudice? Are you willing to go anywhere God would want to send you? You and I may be more like Jonah than we think! Would you go to the Sudan or how about Iraq, Iran…think about it?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be willing to go anywhere you would want to send me. Help Kathy and I to stay financially free to be able to be obedient to go when you call. Help me not to be prejudice of someone because of the color of his/her skin or the language that they speak. You are a God full of mercy and compassion for the peoples of this world that still live in darkness. Thank you for saving me. You are wonderful and worthy to be praised!

Faithfulness…A Rare Commodity!
Joel 1; Joel 2; Joel 3; 2 Timothy 1
Today’s "Life Journal" Daily Bible Reading can be found on Line. Click Here!
Scripture
2 Timothy 1
15 You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. 17 On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. 18 May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.
Observation
Faithfulness seems as rare today as it was in Paul’s life back when he wrote his second letter to Timothy. How sad that he writes, “Everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me” I wonder why he seems almost all alone. Maybe because being associated with Paul since he was under arrest put everyone around him and their families at risk of the same fate; but there is a shining light of faithfulness and his name is Onesiphorus. I wonder what made Onesiphorus different than all the rest? Why was he faithful and others not?
Application
Faithful…if Paul were serving today would he call you a “Onesiphorus” or Phygelus/Hermogenes.
Proverbs 25:13 “As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for being so faithful to me. Your love for me does not change. I am the “apple of your eye”. Help me be someone that people can count on. Help me to be an “Onesiphorus” today. Thank you for the friends that you have brought into my life. Thank you for their faithfulness. Show mercy on their families because of their faithfulness to me.

Scripture
Love of Money
1 Timothy 6
3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Observation
Have you seen Scott Harding's shirt that says, "He, who dies with the most toys, still dies"! How true! You will never see a Hurst pulling a U-Haul trailer. You are not taking it with you, but we seem to think that we can. Now it is true that you can’t take riches with you but can send them on up ahead of you! We live in a country that is so rich that we tend to forget that “stuff” is not the most important thing in this life. People and relationships are the two important things in this life! Keeping this is our top priority requires a lot of work!
Application
Who needs our time today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be content with what you have blessed me with and not look at the things that others have and desire their stuff. Show me what relationship needs my attention today and help me to take time with the people that need it the most. You are so wonderful. You are an awesome God. Thank you for giving me so much. I am so blessed.

Scripture
I Timothy 4
8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
Observation
As I read this yesterday I thought about how I have not been walking and getting the exercise that I should. I am encouraged by the fact that Paul says that physical training has some value, but godliness has value for all things because even though I haven’t been walking I have been reading God’s word. Being in His Word everyday is much more important than daily exercise even though we need both! Last night was family night at Vacation Bible School and it was a great program. The kids loved VBS this year! I am very proud of all of our VBS workers!
Application
I got up this morning with a strong desire to read God’s Word and journal, but I know that I also have to start back to walking soon to keep this body in shape!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me a love for your Word. It is fascinating to read how you worked in the lives of the folks in the Old Testament; how one King would follow after you but the next one wouldn’t and how you disciplined the people of Israel until the came back to you. You are so patient and so full of mercy. Please direct my thoughts today and keep my thoughts on you.

Scripture
Prayer

Chariots of Fire!

Scripture
2 Kings 6
15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked.
16 "Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
17 And Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes so he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Observation
Ever feel like you are all alone in what you are going through? Ever feel like your enemies are getting the best of you? Maybe you need to look up…open your eyes…and see the Armies of the Living God that are on your side! Our weapons are not of this world…and our help comes from God Himself. We need to remember that “For the battle is not yours, but God's.” 2 Chronicles 20:15
Application
What are you going through today? You need to remember to look up…open your eyes…and depend on God to help you!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are all powerful, nothing is too hard for you! You have an army at our disposal if we will just call on you for help. Thank you for working so powerfully in me. You are wonderful and worthy of praise!

Urged to Pray for Everyone!
2 Kings 4; 2 Kings 5; Psalm 83; 1 Timothy 2
Today’s "Life Journal" Daily Bible Reading can be found on Line. Click Here!
Scripture
1 Timothy 2
Instructions on Worship
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.
Observation
How many places in scripture do you find that tell you to pray for lost people? …very few. This is one of those rare places. Most of the time we are exhorted to pray for other believers, but here we see that we should also pray for people that do not know Christ. Sometimes from reading scripture we can be led to think that God wants some people to be saved and some people to be lost, but this passage clearly shows God’s heart on the matter, “who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. You and I are called to be heralds of this truth (verse 7).
Application
Who has God placed on your heart that needs to be saved? Pray for them today!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, the man I met yesterday has a church background but I don’t think he has a personal relationship with you. I pray for him today that he would understand the Truth and that the Truth would set him free. I pray that you would help him to be able to lead a life with meaning and purpose with you as His Lord and Savior. Speak to him clearly today and I pray for his salvation.

The Lord's Grace to Paul
1 Timothy 1
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Observation
I feel like Paul this morning as he talked about what Jesus Christ had done in his life and that he was so unworthy of being appointed into service. I know the feeling. God’s grace and mercy have been poured out on me too! Did you notice in verse 16 that Paul says God saved us so that Christ Jesus might show his unlimited patience as an example for those who believe on him and receive eternal life? Don’t you like how Paul finishes in verse 17, “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.” Amen!
Application
Have you trusted in Jesus Christ to save you? Have you turned from sin and from self and turned to God and asked Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior? I am a sinner, but I have asked Jesus to save me. Have you asked Him to save you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for saving me. I am a sinner. I don’t deserve your mercy and grace. I don’t deserve eternal life or salvation. Thank you for your unlimited patience towards me. I know that I don’t deserve it. Help me to have patience with those around me today. Use me today for your glory. “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.” Amen!

Wrestling in Prayer for You!

Click Here To Read Today’s Daily Bible Reading
Scripture
Colossians 4
12 Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
Observation
Do you wrestle in prayer for other people? Epaphras always did. Maybe you and I spend most of our time wrestling in prayer about our selves rather than wrestling for others. Just using the term “wrestling” when talking about prayer seems unusual to me, which in itself must say something of my prayer life. How about yours?
Application
Am I praying for others earnestly enough where others would describe it as wrestling with God over them?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to pray like “Epaphras” and put people on my heart that I need to pray for. Use our Vacation Bible School this week to change the lives of the children that attend and bless the workers that will be working with them. Touch lives through our church and strengthen those in our fellowship that are going through times of loss and grief. You are all powerful. Nothing is too hard for you!

Happy Birthday Kathy!

Click Here To Read Today’s Daily Bible Reading
Scripture
Colossians 3
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
Observation
Today is my wife Kathy’s birthday! I love her with all my heart! I love her today more than I did 39 years ago when we first met in high school. This year we will have been married for 38 years! It has been great! She still makes me feel just like she did when we were dating! She is the best gift God could have ever given me.
Application
I plan to show Kathy how much I love her today! Of course, it being Father’s Day and Sunday does sort of complicate this plan a little bit.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for my wife. She is the best gift you could have ever given me. Thank you for this wonderful gift that I could never deserve. You are wonderful and worthy to be praised!

Scripture
Colossians 1
29 To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.
Observation
Today the grocery stores sale all kinds of energy drinks…they all say that they will give you a boost! I woke up a few minutes ago and my body feels tired. I guess it is because yesterday I helped my maintenance man at church fix a broken sewer line and at my age and physical condition it just about killed me. But inside I am full of energy. I woke up with a strong desire to read His Word. My thoughts before I got out of bed were God thoughts. He is powerfully working in me.
Application
Need some energy for today…forget the energy drinks…skip the energy bars…feast on His Word this morning so He can powerfully work in you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, though my physical body is wearing out you are renewing my inner man everyday. Thank you for putting God thoughts in my mind this morning. Thank you for giving me the desire to read your Word this morning. Thank for the energy that is powerfully at work in me today. You are Wonderful and worthy to be praised!

Scripture
Philippians 3
20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
Observation
Today with all the discussion about illegal aliens we need to remind ourselves that this is not our home either! Our citizenship is in heaven and Jesus will soon come back to take us home! Paul says that he considers the stuff of this world, “rubbish” and what he wants is “to know Christ and the power of his resurrection”
Application
Are we so wrapped up with the things of this world that they have become our “gods”? Are we excited today about the things of Christ and can we say like Paul says in Philippians 3:17 for people to follow our example?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, may my heart’s desire be to know Christ and the power of his resurrection. May I think more about your kingdom than I do about the things that really don’t matter. Help me be an example to those around me of what a Christian should be. Work in my heart today to make me more like you. You are wonderful and worthy of worship and praise!

Shining like stars in the universe

Scripture
Shining as Stars
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16 as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
Observation
While on mission trips to Cuba I have had several opportunities to experience the government’s planned blackouts to conserve fuel and a few of them have been at night. I remember the last one that occurred at night and how all of the people in the town went outside into the streets or up on the top of the roofs of their houses. Our group decided to go up on the roof. The sky was unbelievable. There were stars shining that I don’t think I had ever seen before. It was breath taking!
Paul says that is how we should stand out in our neighborhoods, in our workplaces, in our homes, like stars shining in the universe. This is my life verse and it fits pretty well in this blog, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify the Father which is in Heaven.” Matthew 5:16
Application
What may be keeping us from standing out like shining stars in the universe?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to shine today. Show me anything that may be hindering my light from shining like it should. I pray that the ones in my family that I love so much may understand the depth of your love for them. Help me be a better witness to them.

Discerning What is Best!

Scripture
Philippians 1
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Observation
How do you pray for others? Paul’s prayers in Philippians and in Ephesians are great examples for us and we can pray those scriptures back to God for those we care about. Discerning what is best rather than just what is good is very important; God wants us to choose what is best over what is good and people need the spiritual discernment to make the choice. So it is a great prayer for us as well as for others!
Application
What decision do you need to make that involves something that would be good over against something that would be “best”?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me spiritual discernment today. Help me choose “the best” over “the good” and I pray for my staff today that you would help them make wise decisions. Give them discernment. Help my children make wise decisions. Give them all spiritual discernment to say yes to “the best”.

Submit…A Very Misused Word!
Ecclesiastes 10; Ecclesiastes 11; Ecclesiastes 12; Psalm 94; Ephesians 5
Click Here To Read Today’s Daily Bible Reading
Scripture
Ephesians 5
21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—
Observation
A lot of men and women have major problems with this passage and I have seen the word “submit” misused by both sexes. If they would just starting reading the passage from verse 21 instead of starting with verse 22 they might get it.
It is true men are to be the spiritual leaders in their homes and that they are to be the spiritual head of the wife. Where people mess up when they use this passage is that they don’t read and apply verses 28 and 29. Wives should have no problem with submitting to a husband that loves them like Christ loves the church. Christ was willing to die for the church and this is the kind of love a husband should have for his wife. The kind of love that he should have for his wife is further defined in I Corinthians 13!
Application
If you have a problem with the word, “submit” then you also have a problem understanding the word, “LOVE”. Read and Apply I Corinthians 13 to every relationship you have and watch the difference it makes!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to show my love for Kathy that would follow the example Christ gave us when he died on the cross. Give me that kind of love for everyone, but especially Kathy. She is the best gift I have ever received from you other than my salvation. She makes my life complete. I pray that you bless her today. Fill her with your joy. May your face shine on her. Give her your desires and give her the energy to see them come to pass. You are a Wonderful Savior!

Scripture

Not Half Way But Completely!
Ecclesiastes 7; Ecclesiastes 8; Ecclesiastes 9; Ephesians 4
Click Here To Read Today’s Daily Bible Reading
Scripture
Ephesians 4
2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Observation
The problem with this verse is the word “completely”; most of us wouldn’t have any problem with being able to fulfill the command if it didn’t say “completely”. Be 100% humble and gentle…not 50% not 60% not 85% but Paul had to say “Completely”!
Application
Who do I need to be gentle with today? Ask God to show you where you have problem with “pride”.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be able to live out this scripture. Show me where I am proud and when I am not gentle would you remind me. It is my desire to be completely humble and completely gentle and patient, but I need your help to get there. Thank you for being patient with me and gentle with me you are so good to me.

God Delights in Me!
Ecclesiastes 4; Ecclesiastes 5; Ecclesiastes 6; Psalm 18; Ephesians 3
Click Here To Read Today’s Daily Bible Reading
Scripture
Psalm 18
19 He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me.
Observation
Psalm 18 is one of my most favorite chapters in the entire Bible. Have you read it lately? To think that God delights in me…the God that created the universe…that has placed billions of stars in the sky…He…delights in me!
To think that I am the “apple of his eye” is so incredible…if you are a Christ-Follower then he thinks the same about you! Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings”
Application
Look up at the stars tonight and thank our Creator God that placed all of those stars in place and maintains them, thank him for allowing you to be the “apple of his eye”. He delights in you!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I don’t understand why you love me so much. Why I am so special to you I will never understand. Thank you for delighting in me. Thank you for thinking of me as the “apple of your eye”. You are so wonderful.
1 “I love you, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise”

Everything is Meaningless, Like Chasing After The Wind…Unless You Know Jesus Christ!
Ecclesiastes 1; Ecclesiastes 2; Ecclesiastes 3; Psalm 45; Ephesians 2

Scripture
Ecclesiastes 2
11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.
Ephesians 2
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Observation
Solomon’s problem was that in all his wisdom he didn’t have the advantage we have of reading the book of Ephesians and the other books of the New Testament. In the book of Ephesians we are told that we are God’s masterpiece; his creation and we will only find our purpose in life when we are doing what God created us to do.
Application
Want to stop chasing the wind? Try applying these verses in your life today:
Col. 3:17,23 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I don’t want to just be chasing the wind today. Show me purpose and meaning to what I am doing. Help me to serve you with my whole heart. You are so wonderful. You are a wonderful creator God that gives my life purpose and meaning. Life without you is no life at all. Thank you for choosing me and allowing me to know you.

Scripture
15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, 20 which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, 21 far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. 22 And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.
Observation
Who are you praying for today? This is a great prayer to pray for them. Pray that God would give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding and pray that the eyes of their heart would be opened; opened to see the riches that God has stored up for us and experience his glorious and mighty power and strength.
Application
Who do you know that needs this kind of prayer today? Why not pray for them right now?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are mighty in power! You are wonderful! You are incomparable! Thank you for that incomparable mighty power that is at work in my life today. May my friends that I am praying for today experience your strength right now. Thank you for my new grandson! He is a wonderful gift from you!

Personal Greetings
1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea. 2 I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been a great help to many people, including me. 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus. 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them. 5 Greet also the church that meets at their house. Greet my dear friend Epenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in the province of Asia. 6 Greet Mary, who worked very hard for you. 7 Greet Andronicus and Junias, my relatives who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. 8 Greet Ampliatus, whom I love in the Lord. 9 Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and my dear friend Stachys. 10 Greet Apelles, tested and approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the household of Aristobulus. 11 Greet Herodion, my relative. Greet those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord. 12 Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those women who work hard in the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, another woman who has worked very hard in the Lord. 13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too. 14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the brothers with them. 15 Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the saints with them. 16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ send greetings.
Observation
Sometimes we tend to think that in the early church that women did not play an important part, but if you count the women mentioned by Paul in this chapter you can see how important they were to him. I believe that women can serve just as well as men and are essential for a healthy church. Men should not be passive and let women serve in their place, but women have their places to serve in the church. The body of Christ needs women serving in leadership positions. I think it is worth noting that when Priscilla and Aquila are mentioned it is not Aquila and Priscilla, but rather Priscilla and Aquila! I wonder who was the stronger leader in that household? We really don’t know, but at Paul was not afraid to mention her first and her husband second! I personally believe that it should be a man that serves as senior pastor of the local church, but under his umbrella of leadership women can serve where God places them.
Application
As we look for leadership in our churches let’s not rule out someone just because she is a woman.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the women in our church that serve faithfully. Help our men as they also lead us and I pray that you give them boldness and courage. Thank you for the men that you have brought into my life as my friends and my mentors. I want to thank you for all the new people that you are bringing to our church. I pray that we will be able to help them grow in you.

Scripture
Romans 14:23b
…and everything that does not come from faith is sin
Observation
Everything that does not come from faith is sin…so if you are getting ready to do something, but you have a doubt about whether it is something you should do then be careful you might be getting ready to sin. Paul was talking about eating food that had been bought in the market place and that may have been offered to idols. Paul said, “I can eat it and it doesn’t bother me, but if you go to eat it and doubt that you should then you better not because that would be sin. Why do we do what we do? Is it just because of tradition or habit or is it because of our faith?
James 1:6 “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”
Application
What am I doing that does not come from faith?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, you are a wonderful Father and worthy of praise. Work in my heart and help me be driven to do the things I do because of my relationship with you. Show your power today in my life and in the lives of those around me.

Scripture
Submission to the Authorities
Romans 13
1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Observation
Fidel Castro is in power because God has not taken him out of power. The leaders of Iran, Iraq, North Korea, China, and the Sudan, are in power because God allows them to be in power. The moment God wants them out of power they will no longer be in power, but my question is “Why”. Why does God allow them to reign? He could in one moment take them out of power, but He chooses to allow them to continue. My only answer is that God’s thoughts and plans are way higher than ours and we cannot understand the awesome plan that God must have. I do know that I am in the palm of His hand and I am very safe and secure in his hand. How about you?
Application
We are also instructed to pray for those in authority over us. Pray today for President Bush and those in our government that God would give them the wisdom they need to guide our country.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray for President Bush. Give him wisdom and discernment. Surround him with wise Godly people to help him make good decisions. I pray for my friends in Cuba today that you bless them and help them to flourish in spite of the oppressed situation in Cuba. You are sovereign and in control not only in Cuba, but also in the Sudan and in every other place on this earth.
