Scripture

Galatians 3

13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” 14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.

Deuteronomy 21

22 “If someone has committed a crime worthy of death and is executed and hung on a tree, 23 the body must not remain hanging from the tree overnight. You must bury the body that same day, for anyone who is hung is cursed in the sight of God. In this way, you will prevent the defilement of the land the LORD your God is giving you as your special possession.

Observation

We deserve the curse of being hung on a tree, but Christ took our curse for us and He hung on the cross in our place! We have been rescued from the curse that we deserve.

There was no cruel punishment worse than to be hung on a cross. It was the worse curse possible. The opposite of a blessing would be a curse and we do not deserve any of the blessings that we enjoy, but we do deserve to be cursed.

God’s unfailing love has provided a way for us to escape the curse of condemnation, judgment, and eternal punishment in hell and that way is found in Jesus.

Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6

"I assure you, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." John 5:24

Application

I am a child of God. I am blessed not cursed because of God’s love.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to be one of Your children. I don’t deserve it. I realize that I can enjoy all the spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms because of Christ. Thank you for taking my curse and nailing it to Jesus on that cross. I am blessed.
