Scripture

1 Thessalonians 5

14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.

15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Observation

Whenever you use the words “always”, “never” or “all” you are usually messing up. When we say, “he or she always does that, or he or she never does that we are usually not being accurate, we are usually exaggerating. And when we use the word “all” it is usually used when we are exaggerating like when we say, “he does that “all” the time!

But Paul says there are some things that we should always do, like we should always be joyful. There are some things that we should never stop doing …like we should never stop praying. And we should be thankful in “all” circumstances. And we should always try to do good to each other.

Application

I will try to always be joyful, never stop praying, and try to be thankful in all circumstances.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it does seem like mission impossible to apply these verses. We cannot do this on our own. We can only live these verses out by being very close to You. I pray today that I would be able to put into practice these commands. Help me to live them out today. Guide my thoughts and my actions today. Help me to do good to others. And help me to be patient with everyone today.
