Because He Himself Suffered When He Was Tempted, He Is Able To Help Those Who Are Being Tempted.

Because He Himself Suffered When He Was Tempted,
He Is Able To Help
Those Who Are Being Tempted.
Scripture
Hebrews 2
17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.

18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Observation

Jesus Christ knows all about temptation. The Scriptures let us know that he experienced the temptation to sin just like we do. Yet He did not yield to the temptation like we often do.

What kind of temptation(s) are you facing today? Are you being tempted to get even, hold a grudge, over indulge, steal, lie, cheat, sex outside of marriage, pornography, lust, murder, etc? Jesus understands because He was fully human just like we are - yet He did not sin.

You and I are sinners. What God has done through Jesus is that He has given us a way to be set free from the bondage of sin. In other words, we don't have to continue to be a slave to a certain sin. You and I don't have to continue to hold a grudge, we don't have to continue to try to get even, we don't have to continue to be involved in sexual immorality, lust, etc.

We can go to God and ask Him to forgive us and we can ask Him for the strength not to continue in that particular sin.

1 Corinthians 10:13
13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape so that you are able to bear it.
Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
James 1:13-14
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
Application

I will confess my sins as I commit them. I will forgive and not hold a grudge towards those who sin against me.

How about you?
Luke 17:3-4
3 Be on your guard. If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
4 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and comes back to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to be like Jesus. Help me to forgive quickly when people sin against me. Help me confess my sins as soon as I commit them. Don't let me continue to live in sin. Thank You for convicting me when I sin.
I pray for my brothers and sisters who are in bondage to sin. Set them free. I pray for those who struggle with a particular addiction. I pray for those who just can't seem to totally forgive. Set them free, Lord. Set them free.
