Just Maybe This is the Most Common Sin!

2 Chronicles 29; 2 Chronicles 30; 2 Chronicles 31; James 4

Scripture

James 4:17 "Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins. "

Observation

For a Christian I think that this is probably the most common sin! We may not murder, commit adultery, or rob our neighbors, but many times God nudges us to do something good and when we don’t do it, we sin. How many times have you felt like you should do something for someone, but because it wasn’t convenient you didn’t do it?

James says that not doing something good when you know that you should do it is sin. He is saying this in the context of a lesson on “not presuming on God” and thinking that God is going to bless our plans.

We need to be doing His will. We don’t know what He may lead us to do. So we shouldn’t say with complete confidence that we are going to do this or that. He may want us to do something good for someone else and He may change our plans. He may change our plans for that day, that week, or that year!

Application

We need to be looking for and expecting Godly interruptions. Our schedules may need to be adjusted immediately so that we can do something good for someone else!

Prayer

Father, help me to be obedient when you want me to do something good, even though it doesn’t fit into my plans. May I be willing to do your will today no matter what the inconvenience or sacrifice. Thank you for Godly interruptions.
