The Truth is…

We Are Fragile And Life Is Very Short!

But We Never Give Up!

Scripture

2 Corinthians 4

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.

17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Observation

This is a great passage for anyone that has major heart damage like I do or is struggling with problems in life that sometimes overwhelm us. When your wife can carry things that are heavier than the things you can carry you know that your life has become very fragile and your body is wearing out. It is embarrassing for a once pretty strong guy like me to now have to hand a jar to my wife so she can unscrew the lid. It is humbling!

But we never give up!

Our bodies are dying and some faster than others, but the thing to remember is that these present troubles are small and won’t last very long. So the Apostle Paul says to not look at the troubles we can see now, rather, we are to fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.

Application

I will remember that I have the Light shining in my heart. God has placed the Gospel in these fragile bodies so He is sure to get the glory and not us. The Gospel is the treasure not my body!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, the Apostle Paul was beaten and took so much abuse as He shared His faith. He realized that the Gospel was the important thing. Help me to never forget that it is Christ in my life that is important and help me to remember that my spirit is being renewed every day.

Keep me focused on the important things in life. Things that bring You glory and honor. Things that make You smile. You are a Wonderful Heavenly Father. Thank You for providing everything we need to live this life here on earth!
