Scripture

Mark 9

41 If anyone gives you even a cup of water because you belong to the Messiah, I tell you the truth, that person will surely be rewarded.

Observation

I have just returned from a mission trip to Cuba. We went to minister to the Cuban people but every time I go it is always the other way around. The Cuban Christians are so giving, so generous and yet they have so little. Their reward will be very great in Heaven!

We had ice cream a few times while we were there that the church obtained for us. A small container of ice cream is a month’s wages for a Cuban. (Think about that for a minute)

One of our guys on the team told the Cuban construction leader (an architect) who was talking about his need to gain weight that he should eat ice cream late every night and he would surely gain weight. He told him that was how he had become so large (fat) in the past!

The reply of the very thin Cuban was “hmmm … ice cream what is that? Then the architect proceeded to show us the size of the small container of ice cream that would cost him or any other Cuban a month’s wages.

We ate very well while we were there but we had the advantage of dollars to help provide a way to help them find food for our team.

We don’t know how blessed we are in our country, even with the financial situation that we now face!

But the Cuban’s that worked with us will be rewarded in Heaven for everything that they did for us and likewise every one of our team will be rewarded for everything that they gave to the Cuban Christians.

It is a promise that Jesus makes in verse 41 and He makes the same promise in many other parts of the Bible. Something as simple as a cup of water given to another brother or sister in Christ will not go unnoticed by our Heavenly Father.

Application

I plan to give every time I am impressed by the Holy Spirit and not hold back.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to be generous so that my reward in Heaven will be great! Amen.
