Scripture

Matthew 27

The Guard at the Tomb

62 The next day, on the Sabbath, the leading priests and Pharisees went to see Pilate. 63 They told him, “Sir, we remember what that deceiver once said while he was still alive: ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’ 64 So we request that you seal the tomb until the third day. This will prevent his disciples from coming and stealing his body and then telling everyone he was raised from the dead! If that happens, we’ll be worse off than we were at first.”

65 Pilate replied, “Take guards and secure it the best you can.” 66 So they sealed the tomb and posted guards to protect it.

Observation

How sad it was for the leading priests and Pharisees that they had heard Jesus say that He was going to rise from the dead think that they could keep Jesus from doing what He said by posting guards at the tomb.

God’s plans are going to be carried out whether we believe them or not or even if we try to oppose God. Going against God and His plans is very stupid and yet I watch people do it everyday.

God wants us to join Him in extending His Kingdom. He has called us to work with Him. It is very cool that Creator God wants us to be a part of what He is doing in this world.

Application

As I read the headline news today I know that God is aware of everything going on and He will use today’s events to further His Kingdom.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am reminded as I read this morning’s scripture reading that You came down from Heaven, took the form of a servant, and died a criminal’s death to give me eternal life. You didn’t have to do it, but You did and I am thankful. Thank you for all the wonderful things that You have provided for Kathy and me. We are so blessed. We don’t lack one thing. Thank you for loving me. Help me share that love with those around me. It is my desire to give you honor and glory through out this day. Amen.
