The Good Shepherd

Scripture

Ezekiel 34

15 I myself will tend my sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace, says the Sovereign LORD. 16 I will search for my lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak. But I will destroy those who are fat and powerful. I will feed them, yes—feed them justice!

Observation

In Ezekiel 33 God talks about how bad the shepherds were that were supposed to be taking care of His sheep, the nation of Israel. Then in chapter 34 He talks about how He will personally take care of His sheep as the Good Shepherd should.
It reminds me of how we should take care of the body of Christ, His church. Jesus said in John 10:

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:28

11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, 15 just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.

All of this reminds me of Psalm 23:

The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Application

Because the Lord is my Shepherd I have everything that I need!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, because You are my Shepherd I have everything that I need. Help me to be a good shepherd and give me Your heart for people. Don’t let me become hardened to the needs around me.
