Scripture

Revelation 5

6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song:
"You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God

Revelation 8

3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel's hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

Observation

Not only does God hear them, but also He saves them! They are an offering to Him; “golden bowls of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” It says in Revelation 8:4 that the smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went before God from the Angel’s hand.

Our prayers are enjoyed so much by God that He saves them to be enjoyed over and over again. I think that these two chapters should encourage us to pray more knowing how much God loves our prayers.

I wonder if He saves all of our prayers or just the ones that are not self-centered?

Application

I will pray today realizing how much God wants to hear my prayers.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for not only wanting to hear me, but you even save my prayers somehow to be a delight to you later. I am sure that most of my prayers aren’t worth saving and probably focus way too much on myself. Thank you for loving me enough to allow me to pray to you. I don’t deserve this privilege, but I am glad that you take time to listen. Amen.
