For
Whatever Is In Your Heart
Determines What You Say.
Scripture
34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right?
For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.
35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.
36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.
Observation
Do
you want to know what a person’s heart is like just listen to what comes out of
their mouth?
So
convicting and so true!
Do
you want to know what someone is really like? Just listen to everything they
say and they will reveal the condition of their heart.
Have
you ever heard someone say, “Oh, I know that he or she said that but they are
not really like that”? Don’t kid yourself that is exactly what they are like!
On
the mirror in our bedroom Kathy has this verse plastered for us to see, “Take
control of what I say, O Lord, and keep my lips sealed. Psalm 141:3
How
about this verse that we memorized in one of our life groups, “Careless words
stab like a sword, but wise words bring healing.” Proverbs 12:18
"The human heart is most deceitful
and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9
Application
I
will guard my heart today. How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me keep a clean heart so the words
that come out of my mouth will be pleasing to You and those around me.
