Be Kind To Each Other,
Tenderhearted, Forgiving One Another,
Just As God Through Christ Has Forgiven You.

Why can’t we just be kind to one another? Why all the fighting? Why all of the anger and vicious words back and forth at each other?

Scripture

Ephesians 4

26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,

27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.

32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Observation

Why can’t we just be kind to one another? Why all the fighting? Why all of the anger and vicious words back and forth at each other?

Why doesn’t kindness just come natural?

Our natural default button when someone does something that we do not like is to get angry with him or her and retaliate.

As Christ followers we don’t have to respond back and retaliate when we are hurt, wounded, and/or attacked. Instead we have the capacity to respond back in a totally different way to the one that has hurt us.

We can be kind to them with a tender heart. We can forgive them. Why …because God has forgiven us through Jesus Christ.

The old nature is bitter, it rages, it gets angry, it spews out harsh, hurtful, and demeaning words and all sorts of other evil stuff.

But you and I if we have surrendered our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ then we are commanded to be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving.

 Application

I will strive to put into practice Ephesians 4:32 this week. How about you?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, it breaks my heart when I hear of couples fighting with each other and letting their anger get out of control where they say such ugly, hurtful things to each other. Work in their hearts and show them that life would be wonderful for them if they would just put You first. Bring them to a personal relationship with You. Help them to be kind to each other, tenderhearted, and forgive each other just as You through Christ have forgiven us.
