Those Who Exalt Themselves Will Be Humbled, And Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted.

Those Who Exalt Themselves Will Be Humbled,
And
Those Who Humble Themselves Will Be Exalted.
Scripture
Luke 14
7 When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit in the seats of honor near the head of the table, he gave them this advice:
8 “When you are invited to a wedding feast, don’t sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited?
9 The host will come and say, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table!
10 “Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests.
11 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Observation
The disciples of Jesus, during their three years with Jesus, had to have many many lessons on humility, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to us that it is also an area in our lives that is going to require a lot of work!
Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less” - Rick Warren. … “Humility frees us from selfishness” - Bruce Moore.
You and I are called by Jesus Christ to be servants, but it is impossible to do that when we are expecting others to serve us.
Is your marriage in trouble? Having relationship problems?
Oops … Maybe we have forgotten that we have been called to serve one another.
Success in life = God first ... Spouse second ... Everybody else third … Me last.
Romans 12:16
16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
Philippians 2:3
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Application
I will strive to put others and their needs above my own this week.
How about you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, putting others' needs above my own is not easy. It is not something that is natural for me to do. It is a lot easier to think of me, myself, and I first and others second. Help me to think of others as better than myself. And don't let me get easily offended.
I pray for those who are struggling right now in their marriage or who are having trouble with relationships. Give them a servant heart. Help them understand the importance of serving and putting the other person first.
Daily Bible Reading: Genesis 34,35,36; Luke 14
