Scripture

2 Corinthians 6

4 In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. 5 We have been beaten, been put in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without food. 6 We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love. 7 We faithfully preach the truth. God’s power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left hand for defense. 8 We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors. 9 We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed. 10 Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.

Observation

Depressed, feeling sorry for myself does that describe you this morning. I know that I was fighting a case of the “oh me’s” this morning and for no apparent reason. So it was good to read about Paul and what he experienced because it gave no room for an Eddy Williams pity party. Let’s see, I have never been beaten, put in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights (well maybe this one) and gone without food (except on purpose to try to lose weight)! So what do I have to feel down about…nothing, absolutely nothing and I have plenty to be up about! It is so easy to think more about myself than those around me. It is so easy to take my eyes off the Lord and put them on my circumstances or my imagined circumstances. Most of what I fear never happens because it is only in my thoughts…does that ever happen to you?

Application

So I will trust in what God says in verse 16, “ I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I have nothing to complain about I am so blessed. Help me to keep my eyes off of myself and focused on the needs of those around me. I pray that you do a Mighty work in our church today. I pray that men and women would be saved. I pray that hearts would be turned to you. Be glorified in your church today Lord. In Jesus Name Amen.
